Let the Mocks begin.......

I've read that the Steelers are in love with Jalen Milroe the Alabama QB. I'm not sure of the validity but it got me thinking about it. I've seen him mocked in the 1st round and first half of the 2nd. If he is there at 21 and the Steelers take him, would you be good with the pick? I'm torn. Reading his bio, he seems to have mostly the same strengths and weaknesses that Fields has. If they don't take him at 21 and go DL and then he falls into the 2nd round, would you be OK if they trade up to get him? I like the 2nd scenario better but if they love him, they could pull the trigger at 21. They will have already made some decision on both Fields and Wilson prior to the draft.
It came from Poni which almost certainly means it's not true.

Here's my very early "realistic" first-round targets:

RBs - Ashton Jeanty, Omarion Hampton
WR - Emeka Egbuka, Matthew Golden, Luther Burden
IDL - Kenneth Grant, Tyleik Williams,
CB - Benjamin Morrison, Jahdae Barron, Shavon Revel, Trey Amos

What about QB's ? Could Jackson Dart fall to us?

Would love to see Skattebo end up with the Steelers. I've always liked Najee, but I think his time in Pittsburgh is done. It's just not a good fit.

Looks like the media mocks of course have the Steelers taking a WR in round one. I don't see that happening. WR is one position Tomlin and crew have been good at identifying and developing in rounds 2 and 3 and later. I just don't see them taking a WR at that spot especially if they have to reach because all the top guys are gone. Maybe if one of the top guys drops, they consider it, but even then probably not unless it's in round 2.

I think Egbuka ends up as a number 2 WR. Not sure for me I take that in 1. Morrison and Burden I think might be more on their radar. They aren’t afraid of injuries lately and with CB a big need I could see that or a DE. I think WR comes in 2 as I think they his team still believes they can find them later.

I like Skat but if the one report is true they want to upgrade the position with speed. For me I would like the pick in say 3/4.

I could be OK with this. Addressed our biggest need by grabbing a DL in the first and third. Both have size and length the Steelers love. Bond at WR and Tuten at RB both have speed to burn. Bond and Wilson (back from injury) could be our WR2 and WR3. Tuten will be a great complement to Warren. He has speed to take it to the house on any carry as Fast Willie Parker did. I filled some other needs but the main focus of the draft was fixing the DL and addressing our skilled positions on O.

Is Bond all that or a Tarzan who plays like Jane? Not overly thrilled with him and wonder why he wasn’t more productive.

Egbuka looks like the hard working do a bit of everything receiver we have been missing. If we feel he is the every down workhorse even if not spectacular I would be willing to take that in round 1. We need another hardnosed every down grinder like Hines Ward. We have Pickens for the spectacular. Is Egbuka that player? I am not sure.

I dunno Ward was a once in a decade type. What I get from Egbuka is was he ever really the guy? A supportive player. Sure I love me some blue collar I do . But this team needs difference makers.

In round 1 I want a chance at a difference maker over an ok starter. Which is what I think he will be an ok starter. Not necessarily horrible but might ultimately leave a team needing more wishing he was more.

I will be interested to see what his combine numbers are. Most mocks I am doing he is usually gone already anyway. Not as deep a class at receiver this year.

Doesn’t seem to be the best draft class. I do think there is some interesting prospects just depends on position . RB looks strong. WR has some possibilities. But that is just it . I don’t think it is top heavy. DE and CB some possibilities sure. But yeah…

This draft isn't as deep at wide receiver and the Steelers really need to build an offense to set up a young QB if they want to actually compete. I get the rationale despite the needs at DL and CB.

Would you take the Sanders kid if he fell to 1.21 ? Just curious as I’d pass on that.

The good news is he likely won’t fall to 21. But I’m not overly impressed. He played 11 games with team defenses ranked 38th or worse and had 3,682 yards and 34 tds to 7 ints. He played 13th ranked Nebraska and 18th ranked BYU and 452 yards and 3 tds to 3 ints.
Now you play who’s on your schedule but that’s a red flag imo. I haven’t watched enough film to give an honest assessment but when he played vs a decent defense he was below average. When he plays the second to last Oklahoma State he throws for 438 and 5/1. That to me looks like a head coach trying to pat his quarterbacks stats to make him look better than he actually is.

Almost seems like this is a deep WR draft but not many "elite looking" WR's. I guess we'll learn more in the senior bowl and the combine. I want speed at WR and RB.

If they go high investment draft, they had better go all in and make sure they don’t miss. To many 1st rounders not making a second contract.

Last year I posted a question about possibly getting bo nix and was scoffed at or ignored. We saw what he did. This year I ask about Jackson dart. Nothing. Maybe the draft gurus don't have an opinion or don't know . I just know that I don't, but I'm interested.
I like him he has been on my radar productive , fairly accurate and per play average is high.

Pros-
NFL caliber arm strength
Very mobile in and out of the pocket
Can utilize feet
Can throw from multiple angles
Very accurate
Seems to understand his offense and does a great presnap defensive read

Cons-
Does not get to his second read too often and when he does his decision making drops significantly
Has great accuracy and arm strength but gets away with throws in college that will be interceptions in the NFL
Production vs top competition noticeably lower than vs lower end teams
Height expected to be lower than listed. My guess a tick over 6’

My guess is he will be a riser this predraft season. My guess is Sanders and Ward stay atop teams boards and both go top 5. Then my guess is 2 of 3 in Milroe, Ewers and Dart sneak in with one going early second.

I would take Jaxson with our second but not first. I think he needs a couple years to season still and I’m not interested in overdrafting a QB who needs a couple years of sitting again.

I currently really like Kyle McCord as a guy to get maybe with our 3rd round pick. Not the most fleet of foot but he has an NFL arm, accuracy, and seems to have the ability to get to 2nd and 3rd reads effectively. Again, he likely needs to sit a couple years but I can swallow that with a 3rd round pick. Maybe gives us an opportunity to get a couple starters in the for two rounds to compete year one.

The last two were JuJu and he is no longer here.

Deonte Johnson, but he went sour. Probably one of top three best route runner in the NFL. He is gone & gone & gone, might be out of NFL...........

Who are all these so called "DEVELOPED" WRs ?

Because Antonio Brown lit up the nfl and was a 6th rounder, many fell prey on Tomlin being a WR guru, which he is not. Look at our current roster....... a bunch of nobodies with the exception of George Pickens who has potential but yet hasn't proven anything..............

NOT calling you out, but am calling out the notion that Coach Tomlin and Co. are WR whisperers.

Good on you for bringing this up Drink. I’ve said this on here in the past as well. It drives me nuts when I hear this on draft day from the tv draft gurus talking about the Steelers needing a WR but Tomlin and company are expert of finding WR’s later in the draft. So where exactly are all these so calledWR’s that they have expertly found? Good lord what a crock of ****.

Later in the draft? Chase was a second rounder. Ju Ju was a second round pick. Roman Wilson 3rd round. Pickens( who I said from first season on,will never play with the Steelers past his first contract) 2nd round. Deonte 2nd rounder. James Washington…2nd rounder. Sammy Coates 3rd round.
Dri Archer 3rd….Martavios Bryant 4th. Marcus Wheaton 3rd round. Emmanuel Sanders 3rd round. Mike Wallace 3 rd round.

So….because they got one guy in the 6th round that turned out to be a superstar * they are WR whisperers?
I see a bunch of premium 2nd round picks that had a good year or two,if that, but after that sweet **** all with us. Shouldn’t 2nd round picks do better?
To me the best pick was Sanders. But not with us. A lot of those guys had talent. But really when it came down to it,what did they really do for us? Never forgetting who was throwing the pigskin of course.

Mark my words. Come draft time on TV…..the Steelers screen will come up and the needs list will be WR close to the top of the list. And the so called experts on the screen will smugly mention several times about how the Steelers and their current regime are experts on finding WR’s in the draft. I call Bull ****.

Edit. We’ve done so well drafting WR’s that all off season long last year the whole talk was who we would trade for.
This offseason we will be talking about the exact same thing. Let’s also add QB to the equation. And RB.
Because we are so great at drafting WR’s. We are in shambles folks.

Love the kids heart.. but question that his talent translates favorably to the big boy league..
Bell wasn’t overly fast -4.6 40.

He will have to test out but plenty are field fast…

I’ve always felt that the Combine 40 yard dash should be ran in full game day, player position, pads. That would give a way better indication of speed.

You have “track” fast and “game day” fast, I want to know game day speed.

Yeah. No way in real life that the best RB since Barkley falls to us who definitely has a hole at RB to fill then get a sure handed wr like Golden who imo is an ascending player. The rest just fill potential future holes and immediate depth.

Hampton is a guy I need to watch more. Stats are fantastic just haven’t seen a lot of film on him. Saw the gophers game live and he was definitely a workhorse but didn’t pop. But the gophers defense is definitely underrated.
always hard to do these things before free agency.
