IF this is Khan inquiring, then he would need to go when Tomlin does at the end of Tomlin's contract,
But this just reeks of Tomlin.
Please no.
Here's an idea......Maybe give Fields a 1-2 year prove it deal and a full year with the OC that likes him and wanted him starting over Wilson....?
When did we become the Browns?!!?!?!
Hey, since we're kicking tires, why not reach out to the Clowns and ask about Watson.
That way we can saddle ourselves with another mid QB AND help a division rival out, too.
WITAF?!?!?!?!?!?!

I'd give them a #2, like in poop.

Have anyone seen lawrence's contract? the guy has a 75M & 78M cap hit in 2029 and 2030. If I were a GM I'd have to receive draft picks to accept that contract

We wouldn't have to absorb all of that. any signing bonus stays with the team trading him. We only pay the base salary and unpaid bonuses due.

calm your tampons.

from the article:
There has been a big regime change for the Jaguars after the firing of Doug Pederson. On top of that, the organization still does not have a general manager for Khan to be negotiating with.

I think it's just due diligence. I mean, new coach, new GM (who they haven't even hired yet), sometimes those guys like to start fresh. But at the same time, if I'm the Jags, and I just hired an offensive guru who just did wonders for Baker, why would I get rid of the QB they just invested a ton of money into. And that money comes in to play, I'm pretty sure they would still be on the hook (cap wise) for quite a bit of that guaranteed money.

I wouldn't give up our 1st for him and that contract. If they could get it done for a 2nd and maybe a 3rd or 4th, I'd consider it. He is MUCH better than any other option available. He's young and still has upside as he's been on a terrible team.

I saw that report from Sports Illustrated this morning. I can’t see them going that route and giving up major draft capital for Trevor who has been ok but nothing close to all the hype coming out of Clemson.
Plus that big contract for a QB who’s been mediocre but then again that seems to be the optimal word around here with Rooney and Tomlin. He might fit in real well with those two.

The more I think about this, it could be fun to watch Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tomlin. Rodgers would just simply defy Tomlin’s leash. He could stink it up, but it would still be fun to watch

According to an SN article, the Jags basically laughed the Steelers off the phone. If they are aggressively going after a QB option and offered a 1st and 2nd (way more than generous) for Lawrence who hasn't lived up to his 1st round selection, who else might they target? Let's get this rumor mill party started!

Rodgers and Cousins shouldn't even be a passing thought to the Steelers. Stafford would be another Wilson type but maybe a little better but not much and he only has maybe a few more years in him.

I think Stafford is a better QB in this stage of both careers.

Just go with Fields. This isn't hard. In fact, it's a layup. No sense going out and getting a statue like Cousins or a dinosaur malcontent like Rodgers that will both perish behind this terribly porous offensive line.

ok so then it is 50 & 53M. What about Option bonuses? There's a **** ton of money there too, sigining bonus is quite minimal in comparison. From https://overthecap.com/player/trevor-lawrence/9465
Option bonuses look like they are payable annually from 2025 meaning if he was traded, the team trading for him would be on the hook for them.

A major reason his cap hits for 2029 and 2030 are so high is his cap hits for 2025 through 2028 are low.

Also by the time 2029 and 2030 come around $75m cap hits for quarterbacks may look cheap.

My comments are in no way a statement that I think trading for Lawrence would be a good idea - I don't!!!!

I prefer Stafford if they can get him but yeah if not they might as well go with Fields. Unless a better option exists that we aren’t privy to.

I would do it.
Kid can sling it!
Also has very good mobility which is needed in todays game.
Legit young talent that can get you where you want to go.
Wilson is gone and he is better than Fields.
The money and cap appropriation can be worked out..

Stafford just turned 37 a few days ago and has already thought about retiring. He also hasn't looked very good in 3 seasons since their 2021 SB. Unless he is cheap (draft capital and cap hit), I would pass. We need someone to possibly build a team around. Plus, Stafford isn't a very mobile QB. Our OL should be much better this coming year if healthy so that is a good thing for any potential QB we bring in.
