Let the rumor mill roll - bad QB version

Pretty sure those years are not guaranteed making them almost meaningless. The contract can be jettisoned or redone. If he becomes what you hope you extend him otherwise you can cut him with little issue. That is the beauty of a trade. The other team has to eat the prorated signing bonus.
maybe you didn't see the image or click on the link? those 50M burgers are Base Salary, AND the Option Bonuses are not signing bonuses either

Lawrence's signing bonus wasn't that big. His 2025, 2026 and 2027 salaries and bonus are fully guaranteed, meaning if Steelers trade for him they are taking on $103m guaranteed money. To be honest not a lot of the Steelers brass truly believe Lawrence can thrive in the Steelers offence.

Again, no-one should construe my comments as thinking trading for Lawrence is a good idea because I DON'T!!!!

Benjamin Albright often has some pretty good sources. It's early in the process, but interesting what he has to say about the QB position for the Steelers. Basically saying it won't be Wilson, Fields, Stafford, or Darnold.

base isn't guaranteed. Those last two years are the easy part. They do that for flexibility in doing extensions and converting to signing bonus.

We are not in “someone to possibly build
a team around” mode.

We are squarely in squeeze out a Tomlinship next year mode. 9-8 next year is ALL that matters.

Then after that rinse and repeat a couple more times.

Then MAYBE Tomlin rides off into the sunset, we get Dan III to take over for Art “the lawyer” Nutting and he can bring in a new voice/HC and we can finally enter “someone to build a team around” mode.

So 4-5 years from now there may be some hope entering the equation once more. Until then Happy Groundhog’s Day…it’s all about next season and how we can get that 9-8 trophy again for the eighteen-peat.
Probably true but we can still dream.

Would prefer to see Russ play a whole season with a couple more quality receivers and draft Jaxson Dart. Russ didn’t lose the last 5 games (all against much better teams overall), he just didn’t win them.

I saw that report from Sports Illustrated this morning. I can’t see them going that route and giving up major draft capital for Trevor who has been ok but nothing close to all the hype coming out of Clemson.
Plus that big contract for a QB who’s been mediocre but then again that seems to be the optimal word around here with Rooney and Tomlin. He might fit in real well with those two.
Agreed, it's hard to see it but at the same time I wouldn't be shocked.

Did they inquire? Well if they did I like that they did. At least they are thinking and willing to kick the tires on a block buster deal. Not sure if I like him here or draft one in 2026. He could be better in the Burgh but can he be one that take us where we want to go?

Stephen A Smith is now pushing the "Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers band wagon!"

What lunacy!

no one wants him
Not saying anyone wants him, Pittsburgh seems to be the landing place of failed 1st round Chicago QB's as of late, why stop at fields?

Would prefer Russ find DIC’s red hot poker

**** Russ, sooooo overrated

I don't care who we sign, draft or what we do with the rest of the team. We are not serious challengers to the AFC Championship with Fields or Wilson at the QB position.

Or Tomlin at the head coach position.

the more reason to get Fields, at least he Could be developed. If he stinks you get an early draft pick, if he doesn't you can always trade or keep.

Russel is done, maybe you get above avg QB play for a season or two but as you said, not a contender, yet you spend time and cap on a declining player

QB is not this teams biggest issue.
Most definitely is...how is it not?? I certainly wouldn't go looking for Lawrence or Rodgers to fix it though. I'm not sure if either one necessarily moves the needle. Maybe Lawrence more so then Rodgers, if any. Might as well stick with what u have not that I like Fields either.

In one way QB is their biggest need, given Skylar Thompson is currently their only quarterback. However, as long as they have Pickens and a bunch of scrubs at WR, Warren as their only running back (or no running back if they don't exercise Warren's RFA option), a questionable Oline, and a kindergarden offensive scheme it doesn't really matter who the quarterback is. Therefore in my opinion building out the offensive skill positions and addressing the cause of years of bad offensive play is a greater need than quarterback. Fix the skill positions and scheme, then you are putting the future quarterback in a positon to succeed.

I'm not a Fields fan either, but I think he is the best of a lot of bad options for 2025.

Couple of things

1) Rodger’s is done, stick the fork. 40years old and leaking

2) Fields is a FA, we have to sign him just like any other team can. He has indicated he wants to return to Pittsburgh but sometimes when the $$$coin$$$ is flashed in front of a player,…….. decisions and wants can change.

BONUS: I think the Lawrence thing was not valid. Pittsburgh is NOT going after Trevor.
———— Fields is as good a bridge QB as Trevor, and fields has a year in the “system”.

Salute the nation

I don't think Fields is going to be offered as much as some others seem to think he will. I would be surprised if he gets more than $20m per year for the first two years of a new contract. I could see a longer term contract backloaded with non-guaranteed money in years 3+ so if he becomes a quality starter he gets paid starter money from year 3, but if he doesn't pan out he can be cut without much dead money.

9 out of 10 reliable sources are suggesting the Steelers offensive scheme CAN NOT be fixed for at least 3 more years.

I get the feeling it is a 3 horse race to QB1 between Fields, Cousins or Carr…wait a minute “Old Pedigree” is making a slow move from the back of the pack here comes A Rodgers (please noooooo) don’t do it Mikey!

Carr is one I fully expect to be in the mix as there is almost no way NO who is 54 million over the cap is keeping him around.

He was never used properly, would look great in B&G…kick the tires yatta yatta

Apparently Carr hasn't looked great in Black and Gold the last two years.
