Let the rumor mill roll - bad QB version

I'd give them a #2, like in poop.

Have anyone seen lawrence's contract? the guy has a 75M & 78M cap hit in 2029 and 2030. If I were a GM I'd have to receive draft picks to accept that contract

Anything is possible, maybe it might be like Wilson……… Jags pay most of the contract………..

Still don’t want him. If they are going to do that, they should just keep Justin Fields whom I think is as good but also a much higher potential.

Tomlin all over this if it is actually true………….. Lawrence is a pretty boy & soft…………

No only that..
Can’t see his wife and family wanting to relocate from So Cal to the Burgh at this stage of their lives.
Despite popular opinion here… So Cal is a very favorable place to live if your rich and famous..

Just go with Fields. This isn't hard. In fact, it's a layup. No sense going out and getting a statue like Cousins or a dinosaur malcontent like Rodgers that will both perish behind this terribly porous offensive line.
Let's just hope and pray Justin doesn't feel too slighted by Tomlin.
He has EVERY right to feel that way, too.
We did him dirty for Cooked Russ.

IMO Fields should be thankful for any opportunity he gets, has a career 61% completion % and an 83 QB rating, and has fumbled 44 times and has started 44 games.

Business is business..
Nobody is owed nothing… even professional athletes ..
Fields has other options if he chooses to use them..
IMHO .. we win more games and would potentially be playing into late January or February more with Lawrence than Fields under center next year..

Justin’s indications were, he wanted to come back to the Steelers. Now when money gets waved in front of him…….. things could change for the $$$change$$$.

It can come down to the money. He will be real thankful to the highest bidder $$$$$$$$.

I think the Steelers will go the market fair value and Justin may show us the favor our way.

What a mess. Perhaps they look at #2 guys, since that's all we have had. Davis Mills? Someone said he would look good in black and gold. Cheap. Guys like that. The Rooney way. Tomlin will have him fitted for a straight jacket. And bam! New qb.

Here is what I believe they will do ..
Not saying this is my best case scenario or something I would totally agree with.. but just one knuckleheads opinion .. 😉

Russ is not signed.
Fields gets a 3 year team friendly deal.
They draft one of the three QBs on Day two:
Slough
McCort
Leonard

Lawrence could not beat a pretty bad titans team to get into the playoffs in 23. Why do you think he would do better here when no QB in the last several years has looked good. Lawrence was billed as the next big thing and it has not panned out. He looked good for a year or 2 and has seemed to regress lately. He is also a lot less mobile than Fields and if we do not drastically improve the line any non mobile QB is going to get destroyed. Look at what happened to Mahomes in the SB and he is pretty mobile.

I hear ya..
One good example..
But from my perspective, Lawerence is the better overall talent behind center .
Fields might have the slight edge from the mobility stand point … but I believe Lawrence is light years ahead of Fields in the ability to sling the ball accurately and on time downfield..
He can make all the throws required to be a successful NFL QB..

Stafford just turned 37 a few days ago and has already thought about retiring. He also hasn't looked very good in 3 seasons since their 2021 SB. Unless he is cheap (draft capital and cap hit), I would pass. We need someone to possibly build a team around. Plus, Stafford isn't a very mobile QB. Our OL should be much better this coming year if healthy so that is a good thing for any potential QB we bring in.
He still managed to win a playoff game and the Rams played the Eagles better than the Chiefs did.

I always liked the guy….

I wouldn't give up our 1st for him and that contract. If they could get it done for a 2nd and maybe a 3rd or 4th, I'd consider it. He is MUCH better than any other option available. He's young and still has upside as he's been on a terrible team.
Sounds like what was said about Fields last year. He really hasn't done anything to change that perception, if anything he has improved that.

You're high. It would still be a Tomlin led team and all his restrictions, those are what truly is holding any team back.

whomever said that needs to fetch Collie's stressed tampon with their teeth.

We are not in “someone to possibly build
a team around” mode.

We are squarely in squeeze out a Tomlinship next year mode. 9-8 next year is ALL that matters.

Then after that rinse and repeat a couple more times.

Then MAYBE Tomlin rides off into the sunset, we get Dan III to take over for Art “the lawyer” Nutting and he can bring in a new voice/HC and we can finally enter “someone to build a team around” mode.

So 4-5 years from now there may be some hope entering the equation once more. Until then Happy Groundhog’s Day…it’s all about next season and how we can get that 9-8 trophy again for the eighteen-peat.

People act like inquires are the worst thing in the world. Hell, if I were Kahn I would be calling KC and asking what they want for Mahomes. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

ok so then it is 50 & 53M. What about Option bonuses? There's a **** ton of money there too, sigining bonus is quite minimal in comparison. From https://overthecap.com/player/trevor-lawrence/9465
Pretty sure those years are not guaranteed making them almost meaningless. The contract can be jettisoned or redone. If he becomes what you hope you extend him otherwise you can cut him with little issue. That is the beauty of a trade. The other team has to eat the prorated signing bonus.

We wouldn't have to absorb all of that. any signing bonus stays with the team trading him. We only pay the base salary and unpaid bonuses due.
I thought you simply would want us to resign Russ. I love the fact that you seem all on board with this trade scenario. As if it would make any difference who plays QB in a Tomlin oriented offense. I was told Russ was the guy to make this offense click. He was the difference maker... and would make everyone ....simply better because ...well ...he was a VET SB winning QB.

Until Tomlin admits to himself his failures and makes changes off of them.....we might top out only with a Tomlinship. And we know there are some that are just fine with that. Sadly.
