Yea not worth what some other team will pay him, and that’s the bottom line *****.

I'd like to see if he can be good two years in a row, unlike Jason Worilds.

"average linebacker"

Pay. Bud.

Bud was raw coming out of college and then the coaching staff did a poor job developing Bud. They finally started to use him correctly last year and he flashed. This year they use him primarily as a pass rusher and he puts up great numbers. Yeah, you can’t let a pass rusher go. If you do, have fun getting zero production from Chickillo and Ola.

let him see what offers are out there. we might be ale to match any of them

They aren't going to pay him $15 million + on a multi-year deal. They may tag him and if they do, I certainly wouldn't use the exclusive rights tag. Make is so teams can bid on him and if we choose not to match, we get a 1st rounder in return. I can see offering him in the $10 - 12 million per range but no higher. He had great games and great moments this year but he still disappeared at times. What really sucks is they signed Chicklets to start if they lose him. Chicklets should never be a starter. They will definitely need to bring in a FA if they lose Bud.

It is off-season priority number 1. That and a new coach and a vet QB to backup Ben. But with this teams decision making we can just hope for one of the three. Which is to keep Dupree.

I would love to give Bud a nice, new contract, but another team will overpay him and the Steelers will not be able to match.

Then you don't make him available. You give him a new contract in the process you tag him temporarily. He doesn't seem like he has a diva personality where he would bleed the FO dry in the process. But there is a tag that would bring the FO compensation if need be...

Ya, no coaches are going anywhere unless they leave on their own. It sure would be nice to see Bud and Watt wreaking havoc for the next 5+ years. I just can't see it happening with Watt and JuJu coming up for contract. If JuJu is back healthy next year, if Ben is back and if they put JuJu in the slot instead of on the outside, he could easily get back to 100 catches and/or 1,000 yards.

I really hope that scenario works out, as you say, but wouldn't hold my breath that the FO will put up that much money for Bud. If they tag him and he plays out that one year, what's the cost of that tag? $14-15M? That's a ton for him and I like the guy.

There is a lot of writing on the wall that Dupree could be a "Play for a Contract Player" and the minute he gets any long term guarantees, he will go back to being invisible on game days and just not put in the effort it takes to be a 10-sack guy year-in, year-out.

We also don't really know how he will play through injury. Woodley was (I thought) a no-brainer to sign long term, but once the injuries started to mount up, Woodley packed it in. Just refused to play with pain with all that money in the bank account. Refused to work to get healthy.

I would tag him maybe and NOT sign him long term. It the team is going to go for it one last time with Roethliberger, spend the short-term money but leave yourself some outs after 2020. Plus, Dupree remains motivated for the big signing bonus deal.

Every NFL team would gladly pay $9.2 million for a 11.5 sack player.

For Watt, who IS an 11+ sack player a year, sure. (Over 3 years, Watt has ACTUALLY averaged 11.5 sacks per year.)

Bud, however is a 5.25 sack per year player. He's also a 33.3 tackle per year player. You wanna pay 9 million plus for that?

Just because Dupree had a "Watt average" year on his contract season... I am not ready to break the bank for him. Had he done it last year AND this year, sure. But a one year wonder does not make me confident in selling the farm.

Definitely helps to have an effective pass rush coming from both sides but I hope they don't break the bank on the guy. I'd like to see them set the number one priority on getting the OL right. They were below average with both run blocking and far below with respect to pass protection. The running back by committee did nothing to bolster continuity/timing with respect to run blocking, but if they don't substantially pick up their pass protection, Ben will not last long next year..

Sorry to see us once again talking about next year in December....!@#$

One has to wonder just how much effect Munch had on the offensive line. I mean they dropped off a CLIFF!

Biggest mystery of the season is why the centers couldn't snap the ball. My guess is they were trying to get off the ball too fast. We all know Pouncey had some terrible snaps and Finney was just as bad. Nearly every one of his snaps yesterday was low.

The snaps were inconsistent, the pass protection was as leaky as a bucket hit with a load of buckshot and the blocking was friggin awful. One of my biggest memories was Snell running off to the left against the Bills and Big Al just standing there and watching Snell go by,,, for a few more yards anyways until his guy tripped him up. If Al had continued to block, Snell had a great chance to take it all the way to paydirt. I think Munch just clicked with that group and could get the most out of what they could give. His loss was definitely felt and if the Steelers FO found a way to keep him onboard it might have been enough to get them into the playoffs.

Not sure if it was the same play, but I watched Snell go into the pile and normally you see the offensive line go in there and push from behind and Big Al was just standing watching. They looked like a team that checked out yesterday.

Munchak earned his respect with a HOF career and developing into an elite position coach. Sarrett may have learned under Munchak, but I didn't see him as the same type of coach. He wasn't the teacher Munchak was during camp. Instead, spent a good bit of time yelling (probably trying to establish himself as he's still relatively young). The assistant OL coach was also worthless during camp. No instruction, just an equipment guy.

The off-season dumb decision making is mind numbing. Stay with experienced coaches. The Oline coach is a must replace IMO. That and they need to bring in a QB coach. Having a coach man two areas of the team? They have a hard enough time handling one area.

It made no sense that the Steelers didn't hire a QB coach when they drafted Rudolph. I still don't understand why they didn't give him the backup job last year either if they thought he could be the future. Dobbs wasn't that much better and sitting at third string held back his development. They did the same thing in training camp, not giving him No. 2 reps the entire time. I get them wanting him to "win" the job, but lets be real, it was his.
