Man that Bruce Ariens sucks....

wtf are you on about?

That's what everyone keeps whining about around here - how Hayley is "shackling Ben", completely overlooking the facts you state. They'd rather him scramble around and make that one highlight reel play out of the dozen times he's gets sacked or throws a pick.

I respect what Arians is doing, but lets not act like our O line wasn't in shambles for a long time because he wanted weapons

True Beans !!! Lets also remember the very slow developmental plays he was a calling, with a ****** OL. How his style and non disciplined ways, set Ben R. back in his development. The "bruce" cost us, due to his smarter than them attitude. A game in Kansas City, 3rd and a very short 1, time and game on the line. He calls a right side run, NO full back, ball handed off over 6 yards deep, what the ****, 3yard loss. Thats the play calling that made the "bruce" so well disliked around here. During his rein, it was the most unbalanced offense I had ever seen. I, as a home fan, could guess pass / run, over 80% correct. What about the PAID players on the field defense? Think they were better, hell yes. I could go on and on, but in a sense, I owe him a little respect. He alone, made me a LOT of money as I had a One Armed **** Flinging Monkey business and he was my main customer. The Monkeys performed super duper, but because of the "smartness" of the "bruce", he always did the opposite of the monkey results. Kapish ????

You keep grasping at those straws. Tell me what the score is if Harrison doesn't pick that pass off. FACT the offense scored 20 and gave away 2. FACT without the defense scoring and not allowing AZ to score (After Ben's pick I remind you) the Steelers lose. Yup keep grasping but all you are going to get is air.

Look, I'm not living in a fantasy land of hypotheticals here. Fact. We had the lead at the half without the INT. We were up 10-7. You have to create a situation where the tie or take the lead at the end of the half, which didn't happen. Good that the defense could do somethings right in that game (since they were the #1 D that season). Still they let up more points than their season average, and had a blown coverage that led to an EASY Fitzgerald TD.

Still you can't refute my argument no matter how much you try to change it. We were down and had to drive the entire length of the field to score a TD to win a SB. The OFFENSE did that. Arians called that offense and earned a ring. I know it must make you hurt inside, but Arians was a big part of our success in winning a SB, and making it to another.

How many playoff games have we made it to since Arians left? (remember now, Arians has always been the argument)...

I know it kills you that you are so wrong and have been disputed over and over again yet you cling to your little fantasy that the offense won the game. The offense score BELOW it's average ~20 points -2 points it gave away in the 4th. Without the defense scoring points itself then they lose. Also Arians didn't call one play on the final drive as they were in the no-huddle and Ben was steering the ship. You can't even remember the game well enough because you said "Sorry, offense was on the field when we won the ring." Of course you conveniently forgot that it was the defense that put them on the field with Woodley's fumble recovery and sack.

You can spill your unintelligent drivel all you want but those facts are easy to see for any child. Without the defensive TD they lose. And if not for Ben throwing a pick the Cardinals would have never been in position to score. But you keep singing the praises of a man who got his QB killed, couldn't score but 20 points against the worst defense to play in a SB, and had to ride the back of the defense to even sniff the playoffs.

I think that one falls on the HOF DC with the Zero Coverage.

PS. That was our last playoff game over 1000 days ago.

That year the Steelers were 21st in points scored while the defense was #1 in points and yards. They don't even sniff the playoffs without that defense. The offense scored 14 or few points 6 times that year. In the Bronco game Ben was 22 of 40 for 289 1 Td 1 int. This is a pass happy league and has been for several years. You can't shut everyone down. The offense in that game was like all Arians offenses... lost of yards but few points. Ben threw a pick in that game that lead directly to a FG. They got the ball on the Steelers 18 yard line. At least the defense didn't give up a TD then. DC needs blame as well but the offense didn't do anything to help either. They gave away 3 points and only scored 23 against the 24th ranked scoring defense.

Just as I thought. Can't keep to the argument and start attacking someone's intelligence. Yawn...

You have no merit. You did not refute any point I made on Arians. Instead you cling to a What If scenario about a defensive play, when that defense LOST THE LEAD AFTER THAT AMAZING PLAY.

Ben and the offense put on one of the greatest superbowl drives to win a game (as stated by many sports analysts), and you want to cling to a sack fumble with 20sec left at midfield which is the reason why we won? It was a factor, but we didn't take the lead in that superbowl on a sack fumble.

Arians offense won the game. Thanks for the Lombardi!

So you attack me first then get pissed when I give it back... typical bullshit from you. Nothing you said has any merit because it is bullshit. Arian's offense was going against the worst defense to be in a SB while the Steelers defense was playing against one of the best offenses to play in a SB. The offense had ONE good drive while relying on the defense for 7 points and giving away 2. If not for the defensive points they LOSE. You can give credit for an entire game on ONE drive if you like but that is just more of your ignorance showing. It still took 7 from the defense and stopping Warner on the last drive to bring home the trophy.

The issue is that we got rid of "the Bruce" and gained "the Haley". I wish just one time the Steelers could pick up another Whizenhunt. That guy could call plays, great play design, and he always had a few tricks up his sleeve.

Arians was and is a little too pass happy. QB's love him cause he lets them sling the ball and do five step drops but I think he needed to learn sometimes you need to run the football. I mean even against San Fran last week a running play from Ellington sealed the deal. Maybe he has learned or maybe his offensive coordinator knows more about a balanced attack. I think he was blamed a lot for stalled drives and partly it was his fault but I think looking at personel we just didn't have the players needed for some of the things he did. I do remember while he was the OC at Cincy he came up with that spread offense that killed our defense for several years. I remember New England did it the next week and we lost so everyone said it was Belicheat and his genius but in reality it was Arians who was 20 down at half time and I think almost came back to beat us.

I have mustard all over my face. He goes to the Colts and under some emotional conditions does well, goes to Arizona and has made them winners. Hey lets bring Ariens back.

Cope your point was completely lost. The game-winning drive was engineered by Ben, not Ariens. Ultimately Roethlisberger is a better OC than Bruce Ariens. Sorry man. Let it go. The Bruce just wasn't that good. All he knew how to do was send three guys on fly routes and hope Ben could stay on his feet long enough to make something happen 45 yards downfield. That was Bruce's ENTIRE offense.

Calls in to question how much say the he had here... The cards run more block better have huge receivers... Not much to compare with when compared to the steelers

Also the thing with the cards is their defense... Rock solid

OUR Defense was more than "ROCK" solid, the entire time the "bruce" was here. What do you think kept us competitive????

This is a perspective I always enjoy hearing. Who prepares Ben to run the no huddle during practice? Who implements the plays for the no-huddle. Probably the Offensive coordinator. To think Ben just writes up plays in the dirt is short sighted. He's running the plays that Bruce prepared and practiced. I'm not diminishing Ben's execution, but Bruce implemented it. And it was Bruce's choice to go no huddle. To say Arians had NOTHING to do with winning a Superbowl is a biased view.

Surprised this is not a well known fact. The no huddle is practiced all week under the supervision of the Offensive coordinator. There are alot if reasons offenses go no huddle. Defenses cant subsitute, dont blitz as much, and they get tired, dont have enough time to communicate themselves. Its not just because Ben is calling the plays instead of Arians then or Haley now.

One would expect that, while the OC might not be calling the plays during the no-huddle, plays called are based upon his offensive designs and influence during practice. I don't know the specifics of the helmet communications, but I would suspect he has some immediate, short-term ability to talk to the QB during the no-huddle, too.

Whether Haley sucks or not, doesn't change that The Bruce certainly sucked as an OC here. This is evidenced by the lack of scoring. IIRC, I did look at one year and the Steelers points/game was within .1 of the Cardinals. I did not look to see how much of both was offensive vs. defensive/ST. I'm more impressed with Ben's ability to finish a season and not be getting killed.
