Man that Bruce Ariens sucks....

I certainly didnt always agree with Arians play calls. 3rd and short and we were in shotgun drove me insane. Arians allowed Ben to be Ben which is why he is gone. He never tried to reign Ben in. He encouraged Bens sandlot game instead of making him
take what was there which led to some big plays but also alot of big hits and sacks.

Im just saying to say the Offensive Coordinator whether it was Arians or Haley doesnt have anything to do with our no huddle package is short sighted.

OUR Defense was more than "ROCK" solid, the entire time the "bruce" was here. What do you think kept us competitive????

That's how The Bruce got us to two SB's as OC, and winning one, while averaging 21 points a game.

I think Ariens can script plays pretty well. I think the no-huddle works well because there isn't time to screw up and over-complicate on offense. All the QB has time to do is call some relatively simple practiced run and pass routes that the players have memorized, IE scripted plays that they know by rote.

It's when Ariens or Haley have time to tinker around and come up with some ridiculous shotgun bubble-screen on 3rd and 2 with slow-developing misdirection in the backfield in order to really trick the defense - that's what drives me absolutely nuts. I love a good passing game as well as the next guy. I love to see Ben air out a 45 yarder to Brown or Wallace or a 25 yarder to Heath, but I HATE when they have the camera behind Ben and the entire offensive line is completely collapsing .5 seconds into the play and you see the entire defensive front converging on Ben and all HE can see is the backs of receivers jerseys as they're streaking downfield not even looking back at him because they're running fly routes every single freakin' down.

Just to put the BA's offense in more perspective. Everybody agrees that the 2000 rats won by defense. That defense was #1 overall while the offense was 14th out of 31 in offense. The Steelers of 08' were #1 in defense but 20th in offense out of 32 teams. The fact is that even with a franchise QB, Arians offense was worse than Trent Dilfer and the rats offense of 2000. Everybody knows the defense is the reason for both winning the SBs in those years. Nobody says Matt Cavanaugh won the SB with his great offense. It's bullshit. Even though his offense exploded for 34 points (7 by KR).

Great Post Vader, that should sum up the "bruce arians" experiment !!!!!!!

Salute the nation

I like your point, and I was living in Baltimore at the time. I'd go by offensive points scored for both of those teams (Taking into account the Ravens had more defensive and return TDs than our 08 squad). The Ravens won with Special teams and turnovers putting them on a short field for the MVP Stover to kick figgies. Dilfer, just didn't make mistakes, which is what they needed. After their loss to us, Dilfer improved, but Ben did far more to score and had a greater ability to score than the Raven's offense of 2000.

But that's just it. Dilfer only started 8 games that year while Banks started 8. Both were average to bad QBs. Dilfer had 12 TDs and 11 ints. Ben had 17 Tds and 15 ints. The offenses were almost identical. I'm not arguing that Ben is 100X the QB that Dilfer was/is, however that year Ben and the offense were not good at all. If not for the defense being #1 overall they don't even make the playoffs. They beat the clowns 10-6, rats 13-9, and SD 11-10 when the defense just dominates and the offense did absolutely nothing.
