Mason showed some real guts

I’m not sure they were actually booing Rudolph. I thought they were booing because Kenny Pickett didn’t come into the game after Trubisky.
Naw, it couldn't be that. Couldn't possibly be that a lot of Pitt fans were there, and hoping to see Pickett get into the game earlier.

That wouldn't support their conspiracy theory -- you know, everybody just hates poor ol' Mason. Even if you've assured them that you don't.

No conspiracy I have heard it starlight rom plenty of people online who were at the game and said it was more than the Pitt fans and it was embarrassing. Even if it was does that excuse it in anyway? Not sure how that makes it any better. Go on social media and see the **** that is said about him. It is quite ugly.

I can only imagine what it would have been like had social media been around for Bradshaw, Hanratty, and Gilliam.

Talk on the street was brutal.

Yes, social media just amplifies the **** 100x and is more likely to get to the players.

The boo's didn't really start until the sack. If anything we should be booing our starting LT getting owned by a rookie. I give Rudolph credit for coming back and throwing a dime a couple plays later. He did make a comment about the fans being loud. post game. I think that was a little bit of a dig on the classless fanbase we unfortunately grown the last decade or so.

They started the second he ran on the field and really came out on the sack. Dan Moore gets way too much of a pass from fans. He struggled in pass protection last season and showed the same issue in his first game back. He can get better from here, but definitely a concern moving forward.

Back to the crowd, for better or worse, a preseason crowd is different than a regular season crowd. I could also swear that more season ticket holders than ever sell their tickets on a game-by-game basis because I can never recognize more than 15-20 people around me. It feels like different people every week.

I wasn't there I just watched on TV. I didn't really notice when he ran onto the field but it definitely doesn't surprise me. I just heard the boo's roar when he was sacked. Dan more does get too much of a pass. I had LT as the biggest need for the team after we signed Cole to replace center. I know I will hear it from the Pitt fans but taking Pickett wasn't a smart decision from Colbert. It was definitely taking a position come hell or highwater just like Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns and Terrell Edmunds. I have hope he can sit for a season or two and develop without the pressure the above had to endure. I don't think JJ ever had the athleticism to succeed in the NFL but I feel Edmunds was rushed in and has lost confidence and probably is anything more than an average starter and Artie Burns looks to have finally figured things out away from Pittsburgh. I would have went a different direction then drafted a guy like Sam Howell in the 4th to develop for a couple of seasons down the road. I had Pickett and Howell as my top two QB's and they both outshined everyone else this preseason. I like Pickett I just don't want to see him rushed into a meaningful game too soon.

Pitt alumni here.:ROFLMAO:

Before the draft, I really didn't want them taking any QB, but when 20 rolled around and seeing practically everyone I was hoping for gone, Pickett didn't seem all that unreasonable. Add in the Haskins tragedy, and the pick seems good to me. Time will tell and hoping for the best.

Don't get the booing, Rudolph has done everything asked of him. He had to play behind Ben so he really did not get to play that much. Now all the yea yea yea for drafting Pitt QB, Kenny. Last night the strip fumble was not his fault this O line we have, is still very bad. He picked himself up and threw a great pass and played just as well as the other two QB'S. I get he may not be what we perceive as a starting QB but he sure does not deserve the disrespect of the Steeler fans. He is still a Steeler.

I'm a Pitt fan and Pickett wasn't at the top of my board. However, the way the draft fell, there really weren't many options there for the Steelers unless they wanted to go DB. A guy like Howell in the 4th may be better value, but that guy is nothing more than an NFL backup if he can ever develop into that and who knew Willis would fall so far based on the draftniks coverage (since most on this board didn't view him as a first rounder).

Back to the OL, this issue goes back to the 2021 draft where the Steelers basically ignored the biggest issue on the team by drafting a guard moving to center in the third and a project LT in the fourth. They passed on a lot of very talented players and guys who stepped in and performed at a very high level right away in the process. You come away with a couple of those guys and come back and still sign a guy like Daniels or Cole to compete at guard and all of a sudden the offense is looking more complete, only missing a running back as opposed to multiple pieces on the offensive line. You also feel better with a new QB at this point as well.

I wouldn't say I am upset just I feel there were a lot of QB's on the board when we grabbed Pickett and no other QB came off the board until after our second round pick. If you look at my mock along mock I would have went Dax Hill, Travis Jones, and Leo Chenal. All three might be starters this year and would have fixed the middle of our defense. Sam Howell had about as impressive of a debut as Pickett did and would have been my 4th round pick.

I do like our draft and I do think if Pickett is given a season or two to sit and learn that he will be a very good pro. I just went different priorities figuring we would ride or die with Mitch and Mason.

Im not a Rudolph fan, but I thought the booing was pretty bad. It was a tough situation for Mason, Mitch goes right down the field then Mason comes in and first play gets strip sacked. I thought all 3 QBs looked good. I think Mitch was the best overall. Showed good mobility and accuracy just looked very smooth. Will be interesting to see the rotation for next game.
He’s not horrible, even I, not his biggest fan, was surprised at the booing. Geez the guys not great but you don’t boo your guy wtf… I still say its going to be a little dicey until they settle on a qb.. Ben was there a long time older fans don’t want a procession of ****** qb’s like last time. A lot of diehard fans didn’t live to see rings 5 and 6. I’d hate to think it will be decade and a half till we get # 7 and 8.

Fans are frustrated that we’ll get stuck with a clown show at qb! They weren’t booing him they were booing the thought of him replacing Big Ben. He sucks! They don’t want to buy expensive tickets to home games to watch him tie Detroit!! cant blame them
Should be booing the OL, OC and the fumblers too then by this flawed logic…I’m sure DJ will get a cheer when he hits the field tho

Starlight rom? Cool.

Not excusing the booing, just provided the the most likely reason for it. If the Steelers had drafted any other quarterback besides the hometown Pickett, any boos for Mason (and Mason only) would probably have been barely discernable. But I'm sure there's a few haters out there...maybe they are some of the same people who attended the Lions game last year? :bounce:

Most of social media is quite ugly, in my opinion.

So the Rudolph hate on this board is most likely because we drafted Pickett?? I really doubt it.

I’ve called 6 different cities/towns home in my lifetime. Pittsburgh is definitely the best place I’ve lived. It’s often ranked as one of the best places to live in the US.
In my work I have been to many cities. Pittsburgh is so underrated. Love going there. My vote goes to Buffalo for the shittiest major city. Ugly skyline. What a shithole.
Love to visit Pittsburgh but wouldn't want to live there only for one reason...too many hills. I'm a flatlander. Love my big flat yard over here in Ohio.!

I've lived in PA all my life, Pittsburgh is a great city, the farther out of Pittsburgh you get, the more cousin-******* country you enter, the worse it gets. If you're offended by this post, don't worry, just have your sister/wife give you a nice hummer and you'll forget all about it. ;)

Especially if you travel south.

Last time I was in Pittsburgh it was more of a cesspool of homeless and drug addict infested s-hole than the Pittsburgh of old. I know homelessness has become an epidemic in our society but it was rivaling San Fran and that's not good. It was a sad enough sight that I likely won't ever step foot inside Pittsburgh again unless something is done.

Last time I was in Pittsburgh, I was on the north shore. That area is nice. The part of Pittsburgh I grew up in? **** hole.

I was referring to the crowd at the game. But yes, I think the perceived "hate" for Rudolph on this board is overblown as well. Most people just recognize him for what he is. They realize that if he somehow were to win the starting quarterback job, then the Steelers are in big trouble.
