Maybe overly emotional Pickens has a point ... even if he is an overly emotional young receiver.

No but he also runs some lazy routes. He is not wrong but he is also part of the problem at times. He should be running a lot more slants and mid crossing routes.

Don't disagree. Young players, especially receivers, are prone to shut down when they aren't being involved. Not saying that is right at all. But our coaches sure aren't helping themselves.

Though you cannot base your offense on 50/50 jump balls, not throwing at least own or two of them up to Pickens each game is kind of inexcusable, given his specific skill set.

The Steelers definitely don't live in their fears, though.

Here is the thing. They are covering him with a safety over top. A lot..... and his route tree is not developed enough. The disappointing thing us the lack of production from DJ who should be winning to the tune of a hundo and a score or two a game. But watching two chumps playing right now (Vikes and Bengals) a big problem is the overall offense and timing between receivers and Qs.

So what?

I'm not saying to force feed him, but given some of the sensational catches along the sidelines he has made in his career to this point (several of which were in double coverage) how can it be justified not giving him ANY chances to do so throughout the course of a game?

I "almost" feel sorry for the kid at this point, despite the immature, selfish douche he appears to be.

The coaches are drilling no turnovers. I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying it's a group effort to suck this bad. I think they should be finding ways to get him ball more. The whole thing us bad.

You're right to bring up how other teams' offenses seem to be fairing better (far better in fact) with scrub QBs.

In context, our coaching appears to be even worse (at least on the offensive side) than we as fans generally perceived it to be right now, which is REALLY saying something.

And reading how Tomlin's seat is not even the slightest bit warm after approaching 7 years without a playoff win is absolutely astonishing to me.

I just don't get it. Why should we give a **** if ownership obviously doesn't?

I wouldn’t say he’s overly emotional. More disgruntled and definitely misused

Agreed

He is a symptom of the disease infecting WRs since Hines/Cowher.

Perhaps the young man has higher standards than the team.

Mitch threw him a 59-50 ball that he says he will get and he did not yet again Mitch is the problem. Come on folks the action or lack of action by too many of our players become very obvious on the field.

You can only adjust so much to make plays on throws from the wildly inaccurate QBs the Steelers employ…that said GP usually makes an insane catch there, if he’s actually trying. Obviously he’s given up on the “coaching” and “scheme”

Mitch can’t hit locations consistently at all
And his timing sucks too
Can’t even hit easy dumps to Muth he’s so so damn bad

And they extended his contract?!?!?

Damn straight GP has a point and has been a squeaky wheel for weeks while other Steelers offensive players just keep clocking a check like nothing is wrong. But alas the Snakeoil salesman has no oil for the squeaky wheel??? Seems kinda useless to have around then eh?

He definitely does run some laze routes. As has Diontae lately (which isn't the norm from him). But if you look at that chart above, he may be running those routes laze but the routes themselves are lazy coaching too.

Absolutely terrible on both sides of the coin. The receivers run bad routes or wrong routes and the route tree itself is barely a twig. I would fire the entire offensive coaching staff regardless of what happens with Tomlin.

Couldn't agree more about Pickens (and others) lack of effort. No effort on several keys plays, standing around on running plays, not pursuing after turnovers has been issue for Pickens, DJ, and others. Should not be tolerated.

Pickens definitely has a point about the routes. But does that mean you quit on plays or just take plays off completely? Block someone sometimes for crap sake!

Regarding the "lazy routes" - when the broadcast showed a sack of Trubisky from behind the offense, we could see every receiver's route. 4 ran routes (Pickens, DJ, Freiermuth and Robinson). All four ran directly at a defender and turned around. No bumps or rubs or crossing routes, no combination routes forcing a defender to decide which receiver to cover, just four guys running straight ahead and turning around.

I can say as a fact that when I played in high school and when I helped coach son's pee-wee football teams, we had more complex route combinations.

Who does that fall on, I mean calling the plays for that to happen?

Who is over-all responsible ???

Just curious?

Should be the offensive coordinator. Problem is the playbook is still his. That stinks won't be washed away until next year.

The Steelers should try to deal Pickens before he damages his stock more. If they don’t, I fear he will eventually be another Santonio Holmes/Antonio Brown type regret.

Hang onto that thought…….
