Maybe overly emotional Pickens has a point ...

He is being coached by the greatest of all time. How dare he speak out.
 
In the right system with the right QB, Pickens is a top 5-10 WR. The Steelers isn't it. I don't blame him for being frustrated, but the lack of effort is horseshit.

Pickens is a lot of hype without the substance at this point. He has a lot of developing to do before being a top-10 receiver. Who are you putting him ahead of?

Ok. I see it differently. My personal feelings changed about Rooney family when they let the NFL sweep Spygate under the rug for the betterment of the league which in turn helped their "own" wallet also in return. I don't blame them for what they did. As a fan though I felt and feel betrayed that they didn't fight for their fans and players to get to the bottom and the truth of Spygate. Rooney's chose to protect the brand because it was about $$$$$. Holding on to Tomlin this long has hurt this franchise. The entire no-losing season streak and Rooney rule both play into it. If that is part of the "legacy" you speak of I can agree with that to a degree.
 
Pickens, somehow, needs a major attitude adjustment during the offseason. He can block. We've seen him put guys on their arse when blocking. He (and all receivers) need to run their routes like they are the prime target. That's why I still say, if Tomlin stays, they need to clean out the O coaching staff. They are a joke even though they have significant talent there.

They’re pros it doesn’t take a year to learn 50 plays maybe a week (or two tops if the coaching sucks)

Start adding what you can and subtracting the worst parts. Can you install an entirely new scheme in a week, no

But you can definitely start modifying and moving towards something better

Might just give the players some hope and drive too.

Anything is better than the lame excuse that our hands are tied and “woe is me” just gotta wait til next year

The changes and modifications should have began weeks/years ago, if there was any leadership

Exactly, Pickens has made some ridiculous catches, but I just don't see how everyone always says he should be a top WR in the NFL. Based on what??? He's lazy, can only run like 2 routes, has a horrible attitude. Imagine if Olinemen decided to give zero effort if we called plays they didn't like, or if the RB's didn't give effort on a passing play because they didn't get the ball. The guy is a bum IMO, takes more than being athletic.

I think even if you change out all offensive and all defensive coaching staff, you may still have a problem.

ONLY if, and that’s a big IF, Coach Tomlin can accept independent hires and operation of said coaching teams. That acceptance would hinge on how bad Tomlin wanted to remain a HC here.

Myself, I think we need a complete overall coaching change, including the HC.

I am sure they are trying but you vastly overestimate how much they can do in season. They get very little practice time with the CBA. They can barely get the current plays ready for the next week.
 
Pickens problem is he thinks he is better than he is. Spectacular catches are great but he has more than a few drops in the last two years as well as bad routes and lazy blocking. We know he can block, he showed that early on. Need Hines as our WR coach or hell maybe Head Coach if Tomlin leaves voluntarily.
 
I love how 90% of the fans realize The team is total trash offense defense and even special teams. The fans can see how awful Pickett and trubisky have been, how badly the Steelers need different coaches an coordinators.

Imagine being Pickens or DJ or any receiver on this team. Their career is on the line and they are catching passes from guys that shouldn't even be in the NFL.

Fans are so mad because everyone sees the same garbage product every sunday. How mad would the fans be if like Pickens their livelihood was in jeopardy on top of it?

I try to see it big picture and put myself in Pickens shoes. He has been a decent to good player but absolutely will never reach his potential on this team with a bum like Pickett.

Him being frustrated is 1000% understandable.

I would bet every WR on this team would opt to be traded if they could because as a wideout the QB can make or break a career.
 
Pickens makes spectacular catches because he has trouble getting consistent separation. He does have great body control and instincts, but right now he is not a top WR. In a proper scheme and him not being lazy on routes then he could live up to his potential. I'm fine with him being frustrated, but he is also selfish and lazy. Last game we were winning and if he threw a proper block we may have scored on that play. Its not like the game or season was out of reach at that point. I just hope they figure something out

If the coaching is so bad, and on offense for sure it is how do you judge the QB’s. Mitch sucks. Kenny lead this team to a 7-4 record despite this **** show of coaching. I for one am going to hold my final opinion on him and most of the line as well until we see real coaching in a real scheme. I am optimistic about Kenny if he can recover from this coaching. Mitch not so much.

None of them right now. But I believe in the right system with the right coach and QB, the guy would be a monster. He’s shown what he can do. Just wish he was more motivated to do it.

Kenny led ****. He was a passenger to the defense and running game.

I was on the same wavelength for a long time. Ifs and buts. I think 17 years as HC has Tomlin pretty entrenched in his line of thinking regarding the coaching staff as well as everything else. Year 18 is not the time to see if Tomlin can finally adapt next season.

I've waivered back and forth several times about keeping Tomlin over the years. I'm at the point of no turning back now (I hope). He has to go before I get invested in this team emotionally. Won't get fooled again!
 
is pickens really a good blocker, or has he just pushed over lazy caught-off-guard DBs a couple of times

If Mitch. Rudy, throw in a couple of struggling young QB's in the league were the QB instead of Kenny..
Would the team have gone 7-4?

I would put it this way...
Kenny didn't UNLEAD the team to the 7-4 record....

His play was steady but unspectacular for sure....but he didn't F things up every week either.

Then my HS team was more efficient and better coached

6 TD's and 4 INT's, he wasn't winning us games, missing open guys left and right, no pocket presence, I mean when you're scoring 15ppg and winning, it's your defense saving your ***.
