For me if McCullers is not active on Thursday I will go straight to captain just so I don't have to watch the second half of the game. McLendon just cannot plug the middle and Cam Thomas should be on a short leash with Tuitt keeping warm. I know run defense isn't Tuitts strong suit but he can't be worse than Thomas and at least give us someone who can rush the passer a little.

I say put big hoss in the middle let him chew up blocks and send Shazier shooting up the middle to get in the QB's face.

He needs a chance. Time to clog up the middle.

He will be inactive. That's a guarantee!

By the way, am I the only one who noticed that the Browns gain all their yards running to the outside?

He can't play special teams which means if he's going to be active, he has to be playing a bunch of snaps on defense. The Ravens are using zone blocking so a quicker guy like McLendon should be better suited. I don't think he'll be active.

DEs/OLBs not remaining assignment sound. Everybody wants to make the play instead of just doing their job.

Tuitt was on the field when the clowns ripped off one long run to his side. Worilds was manhandled, Timmons got pushed to the ground and Tuitt was stoned. I want McCullers active as well but this isn't pre-season anymore. I'd just stick him in and see if he can at least not **** anything up. Just hold your ground.

fixed it for ya.....they ran straight over top Cam Thomas so much they wore a path on his uniform.

it was running over cam thomas like a 12 inch in a 5"1 100 lbs gal non stop full throttle, It was a disasterious view watching the run d from sec 536, sprint draw or counter over and over and no dl could clogg it.

I'd like to see him active and get 10-15 snaps, but he won't be. No way they dedicate that many active spots to defensive linemen.

Barring injury to someone else, he will be inactive all year.

I understand that he is a huge, heavy man but based on what I gathered from the coaches quotes coming out of camp, he is still so raw that he really doesn't have a clue what he's supposed to be doing yet and his technique is poor. Not sure he would help right now no matter how big he is. Possibly later in the year.

So, he's no different than Cam Thomas? But with upside. Give him a shot then.

HIs arrow is pointing up but he is not ready for the game of football at this juncture, if you will, but we look forward to his contribution in the future for this football team, obviously.

The problem hasn't been with the DLs inability to tie up blockers...at all. The ILBs have been getting free runs...to the play-fake side of the ball thus taking themselves out of the play entirely. With zone blocking teams, they all need to play disciplined and follow the BALL not the motion of the offense. Just like you teach Pop Warner kids.

I am more concerned with how our OLBs perform. If they too run themselves out of plays in over-pursuit (a nice way of saying their running the wrong way) we WILL have our hands full.

I would LOVE to see Troy line up in the secondary more too as he is simply a 'flare gun' when he is playing close to the line of scrimmage. If he plays up close, we only have ONE guy to stop anyone who gets over 5 yards downfield!

McClendon is doing just fine right now. He is obviously going to better against the pass but our ILBs have only had an issue of getting clogged up in traffic against the Eagles where Shazier couldn't seem to get off his blocks. McClendon only logged 34 snaps of 115 after being out with a concussion up to this game too.

They obviously saw a little something in Cam to give him 2 million a season to come here. While that isn't a ton of money by NFL standards, it's plenty more than the minimum. Considering that, I seriously doubt they are going to scrap him after 1 regular season game. If he still stinks after a few more games, then you might see a change.

No doubt they saw something in Cam. That doesn't take away from the fact that they have a guy who could possibly develop into something better. And if, as you say, he still stinks after a few more games, I'd hope they'd speed up the process of developing Big Dan.

Typical conventional "wisdom" of the Steeler" is not to activate this young man BUT I think they need to get out of that mindset and get serious. Activate him and rotate him.

I haven't rewatched the Steelers game vs the Browns but if it was Cam Thomas put McLendon at DE and McCullers at NT and see if that sures up the run defense. All I know is it can't hurt and the last thing I want to see is two more scrubs like Pierce and Forsett running down our throats. Put the big boy in and let him take up blocks.

when are inactives released. ?

McCullers and Bryant are both inactive for tonights game.

Other players inactive for the Steelers are quarterback Landry Jones, defensive tackle Daniel McCullers, center Wesley Johnson, and guard Chris Hubbard.

Oh no, not Landry Jones. Crap, we're doomed for sure now.

Never heard that from the coaching staff. I do recall early on hearing about how he needed to work on his leverage/getting his pads low. Other than that the reviews were mostly positive, a solid rookie who just needs some grooming.
