Mike tomlin and his race card

Dont forget calling out Wallace to improve his game beyond a deep threat, calling out Willie Parker for being selfish, putting guys on a board in the locker room for when they screwed up, benching Holmes, benching Mendenhall.

No no no, that's what a PLAYERS COACH does, you see, because all that stuff must be WHY they are calling the guy a players coach. I mean, it's been said, very clearly in this thread that it's NOT for any of the other reasons, so it MUST be for that coddling behavior.

He could burn a player at the ******* stake, and someone here would accuse him of not lighting the ******* fire quickly enough.

Joe

If he was upset about the term "players coach" meaning buddy buddy with the players then he would have said so. But that isn't what he said. He said AGE and RACE. Not buddy buddy. He never said anything about being to close to the players. So all this "he could burn a player at the stake" bull **** isn't even what he is talking about.

Well ****, so being a "players coach" doesn't mean being buddy buddy and going easy on em? I guess I've misunderstood this term for years. I take it that it does mean benching them for fumbling, calling out a wr who can only run a ******* go route, having Casey Hampton run for the first few days of camp while putting him on the PUP list, etc.

I stand corrected, I must be misunderstanding the term. I can only guess that Mike is thinking the same thing, why don't you draft him a quick email and let him know what we define it as. I'm sure he'll be a shocked as I am.

Did you read the interview? I've heard many commentators, most from Pittsburgh, saying they don't know what the hell he is talking about. They'd always heard the term as buddy buddy but Tomlin didn't say it that way nor did he mean it that way. He talked specifically about race and age then used LeBeau as an example of someone that isn't called a player's coach because of his age and race. So maybe you should send him an e-mail and ask him WTF he is talking about.

Who in the world honestly believes that the term "players' coach" is assigned to anyone because they "look like the players?"

Seriously, no one. Being a "players' coach" has nothing to do with age, race or appearance; it has everything to do with your attitude and approach to the job of coaching, and whether you are considered strict or lenient from a players' perspective.

Mike has succeed again. The guy should be a politician. Really he's so bright with his words and timing its unreal. What did he achieve with his pathetic race motivated interview ? Simple we are now not talking about where this team is headed. Or how pathetic it has become. We are not talking about how bad he's handled this team ... Nope we are talking about race ave weather or not he meant this or that. Instead of talking about losing to another sub par .500 team and the fact he didn't have them ready. Or the fact we are worst disciplined team in steelers history. ( that's 100 percent coaching ) nope we are talking about what his words meant or is there a race problem in west va or PA. LOL pathetic guys.

Way to go mike ... You are the man once again you've deferred the attention off of how pathetic of a coach you are MR switzer. I mean Tomlin

I really don't think Mr Tomlin commands the respect of the players as a coach should.

If his team was 4-0 he wouldn't give a crap what anybody said.

I always associated the term "players coach" with one who relates well with and communicates well with his players. Someone who brings in a fresh approach and has innovative ideas.
I would think a coach like Tom Coughlin would not be a players coach with his archaic approach and old time thinking but would think someone like Sean Payton or a Ron Rivera or even a Chip Kelly to be a "players coach" because of their innovative approach to the game and ability to get the best from their guys.

I sure as hell never even considered it a race thing. That's plain ignorant to say something like that.

I've never seen a guy get this much **** for stating a fact.

I mean, really, how many times have we seen someone here go on about him being buddy buddy with his players based solely on, well, on what exactly? On the fact he had Casey Hampton on the PUP list running ******* laps his first year here? Does that strike you as a players coach? Lance Moore said they had more live practices here in training camp than he's EVER seen, yeah, players coach. How about the fact he benched every damn running back that fumbled the damn ball during that one game, to the point where he was OUT OF RUNNING BACKS. Players coach? (And he caught a LOT of **** from people here saying that was "dumb" and "too hard on a player")

Yeah, makes perfect sense.

Joe

Couldn't have said it better myself...I stayed away from the thread originally because I always get painted as the "combative protector". I've said it before and I'll say it again - after reading the comments on this board - it's AMAZING how "freedom of speech" is taken to its limits (and beyond in some circumstances) because this is a message board...

I could care less what anyone thinks about Coach Tomlin's personal feelings about something that irritates him. He'll never be able to make everyone happy - NO ONE CAN (on this Earth).

I'll just put on my "cool shades" and ignore my haters...

See you at Everbank on Sunday.

When you are a poor tactician, a poor motivator, a poor in game coach and a poor leader the only thing you can hang your hat on is to be buddy buddy with the players, how is that working Mikey ?

So he is a players coach. Keisel gives it up probably without realizing it....

One of the main criticisms of Tomlin is that "He's a player's coach."

Does Tomlin want to be their buddy? Is he too nice? Too lenient?

"I like that about a coach," Keisel said. "I like that he does things the way he does. That's one thing I respect about him and that's one thing I respect about the way he coaches. He wants you to be a professional. He wants you to be a man. So I respect the way he coaches, and I will fight for him until my wheels fall off."

A caller to 93.7 last night said the Steelers were getting "too dark".

The host hung up on him.

I find that hard to believe, with all the comments I see about mr "Jive" talking "cool shades" who is too "buddy buddy" with his players here, I simply can't fathom that type of attitude from a Steeler fan. /sarcasm off

Joe

Who is Tomlin hearing this from? I don't recall hearing it much at all. I don't live in the Burgh anymore - is this a common theme on the local broadcasts? Or maybe Tomlin likes to visit football forums and see what people are saying about him.

Pretty sure a lot people call LeBeau a player's coach. I've always considered him to be one. The players love that guy.

As long as I'm seeing the same posts about Dick, I'm fine with it. It's WIDELY publicized the players, and I quote, "Love the guy". As in, LOVE, like a father. Harrison tearing up on national tv talking about the guy was pretty amazing, but I'd say that puts him FIRMLY in the players coach arena, let me search the forms and see if I can find a thread bashing him for it. I'll get back to ya.

Joe

I'd trade Tomlin for Lovie so fast it aint even funny. One knows football, the other speaks like he does.

Tomlin doesn't always do things like I would either, but please explain to me the love for Lovie Smith???? What has he ever won as a head coach???? That dude is a true statue of unemotion that lives off of what he helped accomplish it Tampa Bay, which if I believe is correct, was the same defensive system that Tomlin came from. And in Chicago, he was awesome why??? I give him credit for knowing a little defense, but isn't he the guy who automatically awarded the QB to McCLOWN over a much more promised young player like Mike Glennon without a camp competition??? If thats knowing football then I guess I got it all wrong. Whether people say its tainted or its cause of Cowhers players, you can say what you want. But Tomlin has won a SB and been to another in his reign what has Lovie Smith done?? Has his coaching abilities ever won a playoff game?? Not hating on your statement, but try and have a better take before you just say something that makes little sense.

You may have assumed the last name, I think he was talking about a local girl at the tavern!!!!

Salute the nation

Did you leave the "Jive" part out on purpose?

I have no clue.

Idon't live in the Burgh anymore - is this a common theme on the local broadcasts?
No.

Or maybe Tomlin likes to visit football forums and see what people are saying about him.
Maybe but it ain't here at SN. A lot of us think he isn't a very good coach but that has nothing to do with his skin color. We REALLY hate Belichick and he's white.

Pretty sure a lot people call LeBeau a player's coach. I've always considered him to be one. The players love that guy.
So did I but his defense has had a precipitous drop the last two years and I think he should go too.

Flush out your headgear new guy.
Lovie Smith took a dogshit Bears team and rebuilt it. He went to a Super Bowl with Defense and a journeyman QB.

Did you leave the "Jive" part out on purpose?

yes because I have never seen it used within the subject at hand

I figured he was embellishing a word

why have you seen it used around here?

well Dick isn't the head coach so why would people focus in on him, unless like me they want a whole new coaching staff.

I mean I get that there is some prejudice people out there.

But there is also enough people out there who want to keep as a coach just because he is black.

If Tomlin was white I still would want him gone. As I only dislike you because you suck not because of skin color.

As I also think some people look for prejudice trends sometimes, in some instances, that turn out to be nothing more than a distaste for a direction the team is going. As in the direction the team is going under one coach.

Which in Tomlin's instance isn't trending upward.

We used to bag on Cowher for his choice of sweaters to wear at press conferences. I guess I don't like white people either.
