So, cowher''s player's were an 8-8 tteam withoUT Ben who wasn't his choice?
Everytime the myth that Cowher didn't want a franchise QB is regurgitated I'm going to post this statement. I've posted it before and when everyone on this board gets the memo I'll quit posting it.

Easily two and maybe more.
Cowher had an uncanny ability for finding D players and building a power running game. Ben was the last part, and like I posted above: it's a myth that Cowher didn't want Ben. Its because of Cowher we have Ben.

Ark, of course he is responsible for his QBs that he had. Ben is a "FRANCHISE" QB and Cohwer would gladly have had him durring his time as coach of the PITTSBURGH STEELERS. What's so hard about that. Ben played rookie year and surpassed EVERYONE'S expectations by a landslide. Then he topped that with a SB win....how much better could he get..? Well he got so much better he believed the bravodo and planted his face into a windshield. Mention of an appendectomy on top of all this and WhoALa you have an 8-8 season. Cohwer also had home front responsibilities pending. He retired and OMAR took over. The point being Bill Cohwer would do so much more with Ben than what CMVT has done. Wasted many years with a **** offensive line, allowed the "Bruce" to instill very bad habits into Ben, couldn't get Rothlesberger to become a student of the game (maybe that don't happen with Cohwer either but there would have been a hell of a lot more emphasis on it), YOU GET MY DRIFT. The Steelers will have the first pick of all available coaches.
Tomlin under achieves. We need an x and o guy, a man who commands respect and gets players to focus and a better in game tactician. A good clock management coach would help too.

Look I don't want to be proven right. I hope Coach Tomlin can advance in several departments and will be supportive of that as long as he is head coach of my BELOVED STEELERS. It's OK to speak of weaknesses through out the team, both players coaches and throw in management too. There is definately better coaches out there as well as definately worse coaches out there too. His record coincides with a "FRANCHISE" QB his entire time here. Cohwer's time only had a brief "FRANCHISE" QB presence.

it may have very well ben true that cowher could have done more with Ben. Maybe it wouldn't have been. What we KNOW is this: Cowher put together some great defenses. People say he was straddled with **** QB's, but those QB's were of his choosing and he should bear the responsibility for having those QB's. Right? Ben comes along and Rooney has to step in to get him taken,,,,,,
Cowher gets Ben, goes 15-1 in Ben's first year and HIS team gets killed in the PO's by the very same team people are STILL bitching about today that Tomlin can't beat AND that team scored MORE points versus that vaunted cowher D than they did against us last year in the AFCCG. Next year they win the SB...
What happens next? Missing that ONE player that Cowher hemmed and hawed about for a few games and Cowher's team goes 8-8. Which is what we are told Tomlin would be without Ben...Cowher goes 8-8 WITH Ben playing for several games....

STOP! Cowher's record in the playoffs and the regular season with Ben is far greater than Tomlin's. I think the 8-8 season had a lot to do with Ben's motorcycle accident and concussion.
Pederson can replace him.
I read that the players and coaches were pretty burned out too. Never seems to happen to Darth Hoodie though.

So, again, without Ben for a few games, "Cowher's Team" was an 8-8 team? Is that even deniable? Of course it isn't.

Yet those "burned out" players, with a different coach, went 10-6 the year after and 12-4 to win a SB the year after that?
I place the blame more on the coaches than the players.
I'd be happy to have a 3 legged dog with a broken dick, as head coach.

It was reported that Cowher wanted Rivers since he had inside knowledge on the NC State coaching staff. If he was gone, he was to take the best available player for the organization. Most had Dunta Robinson, but he was taken right before the Steelers pick. Now Cowher probably felt QB wasn’t a priority, but nevertheless the opportunity was there for a high touted MAC player who WAS known to scouts league wise. Mr. Rooney also felt it was time as well.

Yeah, I remember he being the safe pick. He ended up having sinus issues for Philly. Hindered his first couple years

Extenuating circumstances Ark. Tomlin will see a lot of 6-10, 7-9 and 5-11 seasons once Ben is gone.
And if he doesnt? What will be the reason then. Surely it wont be said that he might actually be ok..
Lol, what is his record against sub .500 teams with a franchise qb...I don't see that magically improving without one.
Whats his overall record?? What place is he in among active coaches?

Combine all that with some "HOME" devisivness and WhoALa you have 8-8. Don't forget the APENDIX thingy too.

AND some here act as if Cohwer ABSOLUTELY did NOT want Ben. Contrary to some beliefs Cohwer was open to it but also looking at other possibilities, THAT"S WHY THERE WAS A CONVERSATION. OBVIOUSLY ROONEY has final say but don't think Bill Cohwer was ignorant enough to NOT think Ben would help his team. It's a MOOT point as to who did and who did not pull the trigger. That thin arguement is ONLY brought up in defense of Tomlin NOT achieving to the team's full potential, it's as though somehow that justifies the failure.
