Mock Draft Thread - 2017

Traded back twice

Your score is: 12075 (GRADE: A-)

Round 2 Pick 11 (PHI): David Njoku, TE, Miami (Fla.) (A-)
Round 2 Pick 30: Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State (A-)
Round 3 Pick 5 (LAR): Derek Rivers, DE, Youngstown State (B)
Round 3 Pick 10 (PHI): Zay Jones, WR, East Carolina (A)

I don't see a CB until round 7 ??? Are we signing a FA or did we as I may not be thinking clearly at the moment. (Long day)

Salute the nation

I think the CB class is weak in the mid round later stages. Plus I think we will sign a CB, as they are visiting with several.

Also think picking two OLBers our pass rush would be better, helping that secondary out.....

I know we realistically won't make any trades but I traded back in the 2nd. I would take this draft.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 30: Takkarist McKinley, OLB/DE, UCLA (A-)
Round 3 Pick 1 (CLE): Kevin King, CB, Washington (A-)
Round 3 Pick 30: Josh Jones, SS, NC State (A)
Round 3 Pick 41 (COMP): Jake Butt, TE, Michigan (A-)
Round 4 Pick 1 (CLE): Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State (A+)
Round 4 Pick 28: Davis Webb, QB, California (A)
Round 5 Pick 29: James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh (A)
Round 6 Pick 29: Joe Mathis, DE, Washington (B)
Round 7 Pick 30: D.J. Jones, DT, Ole Miss (B-)

you already have Dupree, where will they all play at the same time? We have even less depth at CB and I'd prefer a top CB in the first and then Bowser or Rivers in the second.

in today's NFL three CBs are starters so you really need 5 capable players for this position (Burns, Cockrell, rookie, gay, ?), for OLB with three you are set and the 4th is an emergency player (Dupree, Harrison, rookie, Chickillo, Moats)

Ouside of Dupree and HArrison the other two just can't get it done on a consistent bases. Pass rush was the weakest part of the D, and even Rooney chimed in on it at seasons end.

I would rotate and give them just pass rush responsibilities year 1. And Watt would have a legit chance to start out of the gates.

One way to fix a weakness is to attack it. If in the process Chickillo and Moats do not see the field? Probably be a damn better pressure D as result.

To add on the Steelers didn't lose depth from last year. If they add a corner in free agency they add to it.

So if you add Watt that upgrades Jarvis. If you get another set of fresh legs in there, perhaps you strengthen a weakness.

Took a shot at this with one trade with NO. If this was an actual result I'd say it would be solid. No TE, but really we have 3 not counting Green.

Your score is: 13172 (GRADE: A)

Your score is: 11757 (GRADE: B+)

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 30: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama (A-)
Get another stud CB. Might turn this position from our biggest weakness to our strongest position.

Round 2 Pick 30: Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech (A)
I could not look past the talent of Mahomes II with our second round pick. Ben has hinted to wanting to retire. This gives us an insurance policy if he decides to hang up his cleats. Mahomes is a freaky athlete and with some fine tuning could be an all pro. It would be nice to sit him for 2-3 years before having to play him.

Round 3 Pick 30: Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech (A)
Hodges put on a show at the combine and he has also been one of the most productive TE's and well rounded TE's the last 3 seasons.

Round 3 Pick 41 (COMP): Anthony Walker Jr., ILB, Northwestern (A)
Timmons is gone and Williams will start but this gives us some insurance and maybe the future at ILB. Walker has been a stud for Northwestern and even though he's only 6ft he still is big and fast enough to get the job done!

Round 4 Pick 28: Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo (A)
Hunt would be a nice replacement for the loss of D. Will. One cut and up back with patience and good vision.

Round 5 Pick 29: Josh Harvey-Clemons, SS/OLB, Louisville (B-)
Total athlete pick here. Dude was a 5 star recruit who pull a M. Bryant and got kicked out of Georgia. Seems to have put that behind him and has been nothing but stellar for Louisville.

Round 6 Pick 29: Josh Malone, WR, Tennessee (A+)
Great value as Malone another big recruit is a legit 4.4 guy with huge hands and has improved steadily every year with the Vols.

Round 7 Pick 30: Avery Moss, DE, Youngstown State (C-)
Another troubled soul that got into some stupid trouble but has made the most of his second change. I took a QB instead of OLB in the second and I never saw any value until here. Moss was a two star athlete (basketball and football) out of High School and looked to be the second coming. Got the boot but made the most of his second change. I feel he has all the talent just needs to drop 15lbs and get stronger/quicker. If he'd had stayed in Nebraska he likely would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Round 3 Pick 41 (COMP): Justin Evans, SS, Texas A&M (A-)
Round 4 Pick 28: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas (B+)
Round 5 Pick 29: Corn Elder, CB, Miami (Fla.) (A+)
Round 6 Pick 29: Ryan Switzer, WR, North Carolina (A+)
Round 7 Pick 30: Joshua Dobbs, QB, Tennessee (B-)

Grabbing a RB instead of a CB in the 3rd? No DB until the 7th?
Head scratcher.....

Sent from my iPad using Steeler Nation mobile app
is it now?

was it a head scratcher when Bell went down year after year in the final run, leaving us short handed?

and now you add that Williams is a UFA and not coming back. The depth at the position might be the worst on the team.

I drafted with the hope I didn't find myself scratching my balls, watching another team in the SB....other than the Steelers.

Never said grabbing a RB in the 3rd was a bad choice. If a good one is available (and Pitt won't draft Mixon) in the 3rd you do, but only if you address the DB first. That and OLB takes priority. I'll even say WR is a greater priority since all the RBs they have been looking at are Rd 4 or lower grades. You have a chance for a top 10-15 CB in in the 3rd who will be an eventual starter that's more value than a RB who won't be a starter barring an injury.

If CB takes priority I doubt they wait to round three to draft a cover corner. They would go away from my draft and not draft two OLBers back to back. Which is more of my like than the reality. Then in 3 with a OLB and CB already taken you can take a RB and a WR if desired.Perhaps the WR first sure. If a RB slides perhaps not. Steelers looked at MIxon so it is hard to say if he slipped if they would or wouldn't draft him.

They are the ones who have more inside info than us. So hard to say if he is off their board or not.

With all the corners they showed interest in, I actually will be surprised if we don't see one before round three...just based on their off-season interest.

I agree Slash, I really think they go OLB/CB (or vice versa) 1/2. Then address WR or RB in the 3rd. Although if Rivers or Gareon Conley is available in the 3rd I wouldnt be surprised if the took either of them too.

Draft really didn't fall well for our needs so I went a little bit off script.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 30: David Njoku, TE, Miami (Fla.) (B)
I honestly doubt he starts in the next 2-3 seasons for the Steelers BUT I feel he right away becomes a chess piece for the offense. With his height and leaping ability an awesome redzone threat and a player to get matched up on smaller nickel backs to get mismatches.

Round 2 Pick 30: Tarell Basham, DE/OLB, Ohio (B+)
Best pass rusher left here. Basham was a man among boys as he piled up sacks. But he has good athleticism and a very good motor. Reminds me of a poor mans Kahlil Mack.

Round 3 Pick 30: Kevin King, CB, Washington (A+)
King reminds me of Sean Davis a little. Flexibility to play CB or S and is a physical specimen. Not a lot of 6-3 guys can move like him.

Round 3 Pick 41 (COMP): Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Alabama (A)
The D-Line last year really got beat up and our lack of depth was exposed. Tomlinson can play NT, DT or DE.

Round 4 Pick 28: Noah Brown, WR, Ohio State (A)
At this stage of the draft I got get me some horses and see if I can make them into football players. Brown is a versatile athlete who might be a HR or WR.

Round 5 Pick 29: Josh Harvey-Clemons, SS/OLB, Louisville (B-)
Again, a physical specimen at 6-5 who can move and lays the wood. I am not sure if I don't put 10-15lbs on him an play him at ILB.

Round 6 Pick 29: De'Angelo Henderson, RB, Coastal Carolina (A)
Might only be 5-7 but don't think Archer as Henderson weighs 208lbs. He doesn't get taken down via arm tackles, has some wiggle, good speed, and good enough hands. His vision doesn't seem the best as he follows his blocks even if there's nothing there but that is ok too. He also falls forward which I like.

Round 7 Pick 30: Deatrich Wise Jr., DE, Arkansas (C+)
Another horse for the stable. 6-5 over 35" arms and 10 1/2" hands and runs like the wind and is strong as a horse. Get him into camp see if you can get him to play to his potential.

I think both 1 and 2 will be long gone before the Steelers round 2. But if we could somehow walk away with those two, I would declare the offseason a win.

This is the year I would like them to trade up in 2 as I think there will be some solid talent sitting there...
