Mock the updated big board consensus.

17. Jalen Carter - despite his recent brush with the law, he's too good to pass up
32. Will Anderson Jr - surprised as well when he fell to 32, will provide much needed depth.
49. Christian Gonzales - refused to play for anyone but Mike, and held his breath until it happened.
80. Paris Johnson Jr. - overrated Buckeye falls to the Steelers
120. Broderick Jones - things are beginning to fall into place.
236. Cam Smith - best available corner left at this point.
243. Jordan Addison - just for Coolie

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

As a huge Penn State fan. I can tell you that you don't want this choke artist anywhere near the Steelers. Not even as a backup. If there is one position the Nittany Lions have never given the NFL, it's a good QB. Todd Blackledge & Kerry Collins were the best they've given...yeah, exactly! And don't mention Jeff Hostetler, he started all of three games for Joe Pa and transferred to WVU, he don't count
Lol I almost did a joke draft where i took him but figured the Penn staters here might lynch me … this response was way more mellow than I expected 🤣

1.17 Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland
-I'm leaning toward the Steelers wanting to find a way to stop Chase and Higgins. Banks is a Steelers-type corner with outstanding athletic abilities.

2.32 Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee
-I listened to some of his combine interview and the guy is smart, leader of the offensive line type player and the type of guy the Steelers like along their offensive line. Has experience on both sides and could probably even move inside if necessary.

2.49 Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa
-His athleticism impressed at the combine, but I just will remember watching the productive player at linebacker in college. The Steelers could use two ILBs, so getting Campbell here is a plus.

3.80 Joe Tippmann, IOL, Wisconsin
-Finding a player with G/C potential. I am interested in his workout numbers because I want interior lineman with plus athleticism.

4.120 Zacch Pickens, DL, South Carolina
-Good athleticism and probably the last prospect to grab with at least backup potential for the defensive line.

7.236 Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA
-Just trying to find a good athlete this late. He will need time, but an experienced QB with backup potential.

7.243 Will Mallory, TE, Miami
-Not sure what the plan is with Gentry. There will potentially be a chance to compete for a No. 3 role.

So I still think our biggest need is by far a stud offensive lineman… an absolute anchor for the line… now id take one at any position, however the weakest position on the line os probably Tackle and tackle is probably the deepest Oline position in the draft.. and there are at least four really high end prospects with several others that have pretty high ceilings…

Our second biggest hole is at DT, not so much the DE types because we have Leal and to a lesser extent Loudermilk, but the bulkier DT types more along a NT or at least a guy who can play in the middle… i worry that tge Steelers don’t really invest in those NT types very much.. and that they may go higher on another leal type guy, which feels redundant right now.. then not address the position again

Our third biggest hole ( assuming one of the safeties are retained) is at ILB
I just don’t like spending top draft capital on an off ball lb unless he is really really great. I don’t know if that guy is in this draft.. id be fine with a second round guy there.. if they did take Branch as a hybrid there, id be cool with that

Our fourth biggest hole is a shutdown type corner… if they think a guy available at 17 is one then they should take him… if not id be fine with ignoring the position… we have lots of OK dbs already

Our fifth hole is a third wr… its really not totally necessary… the top two are set… we have a total question mark with CA3… if Anthony millers shoulder is ok he is a reasonable 4th, and sims is fine as a 5th wr/ return specialist… and honestly cody white is ok as a sixth… however it doesn’t really look like a great wr corps, just an ok one… if you can get a security blanket in case of injury or CA3 not panning out… you absolutely should do it… maybe not too early though

And then perhaps pass rushing depth. You can also as Sask brought up get a TE to pair with Muth and then use that package more over a slot WR.

Anywho I think the BPA will be somewhere within these mentions.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Bresee selected at 32 either.

This draft has me excited to see what they will do, I hope their free agency complements it well.

This is about as good as a post as you can get explaining the Steelers need, particularly the investment. ILB isn't worth a top pick in this draft and the Steelers don't value NT. We've wanted one since Casey Hampton retired. I don't expect that to change unless it's an interior pass rusher like they got with Hargrave years ago.

So Vorhees tore his ACL at the combine and will likely miss the whole season recovering. I really think if they can grab a low fifth or sixth in a trade and he is there he would be a good grab for next year…

What concerns me most, is that at least 70 of the top picks will be off the board by the time 17 rolls around.
That's why the Steelers run in the pick at 17, 32 and 49......if they don't execute the pick with speed and timing, many more could be off the board.

My selections to Round 4 were based on trying to get BPA at a position of need/upgrade a starting position. The Round 7 picks were about trying to improve the bottom of the depth chart on the 53 man roster.

17 Broderick Jones OT - To me Oline, especially tackle is the number 1 need, so I'm rushing to the podium for this pick.

32 Emmanuel Forbes CB - has his risks due to size and lack of bulk, but should upgrade an outside starter position.

49 Siaki Ika DT - in my view along with ILB Steelers next biggest need after Oline.

80 Henry To'oTo'o LB - Ditto

120 Jarrett Patterson C/G - Didn't really like the choices available here. I would have preferred a pure guard or another position to a centre who also plays guard. I thought Patterson was more likely to upgrade a starter position than any of the other options here, as I'd already taken Dline and ILB, and I don't see a 4th round safety as a value pick if Kazee and Edmunds are both re-signed.

236 Will Mallory TE

243 Michael Jefferson WR - went for height here as the Steelers seem to have plenty of sub 6 foot receivers.

plus Parish is versatile, he can also play FB and be a beast on special teams
we dont use FBs. that's illegal. a decent mod would boot you off this site.

God, you don't even bother upgrading ILB???

This draft sucks.
