Mock the updated big board consensus.

Final Mock:

Round 1, Pick 17 overall Brian Branch SS/NCB ALA - Think hard about Banks CB and Jones OT, but Branch seems special to me
Round 2, Pick 32 overall Drew Sanders ILB ARK - Can't get Campbell anymore with pick 49, so I'm grabbing our ILB here.
Round 2, Pick 49 overall Clark Phillips III NCB Utah - We've been looking for a replacement since Mike Hilton left and this is it!
Round 3, Pick 80 overall Blake Freeland LT BYU - I think we will grab a LT earlier, but here, his size and athleticism are undeniable.
Round 4, Pick 120 overall Zach Kunz TE ODU - I'm going for the most athletic TE in this draft at 120 giving this 6]7" frame time to grow behind Muth and Gentry
Round 7, Pick 236 overall Max Duggan QB TCU - I can get a Heisman Finalist at QB to back up KP in the 7th? Hell yes!
Round 7, Pick 251 overall Darius Davis WR TCU - I take highly athletic small slot WR with 6 college PRs here to help the return game.

That’s a very nice mock draft. I like Sanders and think we end up with him in the 3rd, once all is said and done. I do see you’re caution-ness in taking him early.

Thanks Stryker

You get Branch to play the Nickel? If so then CP3 would be just a back up. If you get Branch to play S then who is sitting? Kazee? The new FA?

I get Branch If he were to play NCB, if so then CP3 is a wasted pick at 2.49 where you could get a DL, edge or wr instead of spending a top 50 pick to bench a rookie behind another rookie.

I primarily use this site and play around with it daily over morning coffee. I rarely get B. Jones at 17 and until today always got Branch at 32.
Had chances to trade down but stuck with the 7 picks.

17. Broderick Jones, LT, blind squirrel pick.
32. Darnell Washington, TE, Branch was gone and pairing with Muth make this a worthwhile pick.
49. Drew Sanders, LB, both Campbell and Simpson were gone, and they were almost always there until today.
80. Tyrique Stevenson, CB, best pick of need.
120. Zacch Pickens, DL, fills a need.
241. Anthony Bradford, IOL, hey it's pick 241.
251. Robert Beal, Edge.

Rankings haven't changed much, just strange Branch and the 3 LB's are moving up, and Jones being there was a fluke, not that I would complain.

Ike Taylor says that Tyrique is a "dawg". I tend to believe him.

17 Broderick Jones OT | Georgia
A
-Stroud had dropped in this draft to 17 and I had a glut of trade offers, but couldn’t pass up Broderick Jones… LT should be set for a decade

37 Drew Sanders LB | Arkansas
A
-hooker lasted to 32 and there were like six offers to go get him. I moved down five spots for a fourth and sixth and seventh, then spent some of that capitial with what I got for moving down at 120 to 124 to ultimately trade for pick 140.
look, there are a half dozen Ilbs in this draft worth a long term investment… here is one of them… we have so few absolute needs trading down to 37 and taking BPA was reasonable

49 Emmanuel Forbes CB | Mississippi State
A+
People seem to love this guy for us. Again he isn’t a guy who is starting this year… but the CB position is going to be decimated next year so we need some stable long term plans in place

80
Gervon Dexter DL | Florida
A+
As we filled up in free agency, DL dropped in need… and NT is basically set… so a guy like Dexter makes more sense… we have a ton of Young development DE/DT types who will ultimately compete to fill in for Heyward when he retires
122 Byron Young (TN) EDGE | Tennessee
A+
Gosh Edge is loaded. There are a few high end guys i like marginally better than these mid or late round guys, but honestly there are a bunch of guys that are really good guys to eventually take over for Highsmith if he leaves

124 Blake Freeland OT | BYU
B+
Double dipping at T. The thing is even if we get a top end prospect, he might not be ready day 1.
Ideally we are looking to upgrade both T spots, but realistically Moore and Chuks are starting the season as the Starters, but if we get two great prospects, and injuries don’t pile up at the position, by the deadline it’s possible that one of the two starters are ready to be replaced and we can deal one of the starters for something since olinemen are always in demand as the season goes on

140 Israel Abanikanda RB | Pittsburgh
A
He was falling and frankly there were enough low round wrs left that it was worth the pick… I might have taken Tune here but he was off the board

166 Dontayvion Wicks WR | Virginia
A
Could have gotten like three different wrs here that fit our needs.

208 Mekhi Garner CB | LSU
B+
Like i have said elsewhere, both of the Mekhi’s are worth a late round gamble. Garner is tge big strong physical cover two type. Blackmon is the average sized man coverage guy that might work for the slot.. both probably aren’t day 1 starters

251 Tyson Bagent QB | Shepherd
C
We need a third string qb and this kid is a great small school gamble… very productive… has size.. isnt a running QB…

When I look at Jeremiah's top 50 assuming three of the Qbs go which I think is inevitable I think one of Paris Johnson, Broderick Jones, Lukas VanNess or Joey Porter has to fall to 17. If not besides his Kinkaid TE which I think is the second best TE or the Running back falling someone better than the four above would have to be there and I wouod definitely take any of the four.

I’d take this draft and smile :)

Great points Litos, I thought about that as well. Here is my reasoning.

Branch would not start year 1. He would work in a NCB, Extra Safety, backup safety at both spots, and ILB on passing downs. He is the most diverse puzzle piece in the draft, which is why i would never pass on him except for maybe Gonzalez or the top OT.

CP3 would also rotate in situationally at NCB and our NCB room would no longer need mullette who has been a significant downgrade at that position.

I did readjust my mock at the 3rd pick and took a DL. It will be on the mock draft show tonight!

4 QB's should be gone before we pick and we either want Hooker to be the 5th or have him slip into the 2nd. That either allows 1 or 2 players to fall to us at 17 or will make a team potentially "overpay" to move up to 32 for Hooker.

Saw Peter King mocked Smith-Njigba to us. Just so ******* tone deaf to mock a WR in R1 to us.
I agree but one of the PG guys pointed out how accurate he's been recently. King apparently picked our last 2 first-round picks among other recent things he's prognosticated. He probably just got lucky but who knows?

Albert Breer reports that the Steelers have explored trading up with the intention of getting one of the OTs.

Supposibly feeling their way around two teams. Probably getting a feel if they would be interested and what the cost might be. New GM and Assistant. I expect that they will be aggressive in the draft just like they were in free agency.

I assume it's the Bears at 9 and the Texans 12, Titans at 11 could be but I think they're looking to move up for a QB or may want their own tackle.

Steelers need to move ifo the Jets.

I'd be surprised if they took a WR in the first, but I would not be disappointed to have Smith-Njigba on the roster. He's going to be very good and would very quickly become Pickett's go-to target.
