MR vs KP

He will have his opportunity to prove that this year. It is a very pivotal season for him. We shall see what transpires..
I’m withholding judgement on KP until we see how he does with a better OC and QB coach.
Mason has more experience and looked better but he never had to play in a game with Duh as OC either.
I think a lot things he isn’t good at can be fixed with better coaching.

Mason Rudolph, 12-8-1, played in 21 games his career.
Sporadically.
This left him little chance to develop consistency, a rhythm so to speak.
Yet we were the judge, jury, and if it were up to us, the executioner. Cut him, for certain he's a bum.

Kenny Picket, 14-11, played in 25 games.
Consecutively.
Last season as the starter. Did not look nearly as good as advertised. Pretty much a failure up to this point.
Yet many of us are suggesting we be patient, giving him more opportunity.

Many of us blamed the offensive coordinator and bad play calling for the issues Kenny had.
No one blamed the offensive coordinator and play calling when Mason played.

Mason has proven to be the better QB.

I'm all for giving Pickett more opportunity to demonstrate that he's truly the guy.
Too bad no one but a certain few wanted to give Mason that opportunity.

For that short body of work he did enough to start.

I hate to stamp someone with a tag like this with a limited time frame of observation.

I have to disagree with the term proven.

He showed improved play and deserved the extended play time.

Now that thought process might come to pass and it might not. But for now like I said a million times it is a wait and see until there is no more to see.

Here's my take, Mason was given an opportunity in past years and didn't look any better than the Duck. This last season he beats 3 teams, 2 without their starting QB, then gets crushed in Buffalo. He's not someone to give the #1 QB reins to, whether in Pittsburgh or anywhere else.

With Kenny, who knows, although everyone here seems to have an opinion. He'll have to prove himself or they simply won't extend him.
But the burning question I have is his Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde persona. What's preventing 4th quarter Kenny from showing up in the first 3 quarters of the game?
I'm hoping the new offensive coaching staff can figure that out.

Mason has definitely looked better than noodle arm Duck who just has some very good luck
Duck had a brief feel good story during a dark period, absolutely nothing more than that
The only times Mason has had consecutive starts (and actual practice reps) he's looked serviceable, nowhere near good enough to pin the hopes of the franchise on...but light years better than lucky Duck

I'll take the 19 TDs and 11 picks (Mason) over 5 TDs and 8 picks (Duck) all day every day and twice on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays or any time NFL football is being played

But it doesn't really matter as Mason isn't coming back and is Duck even still in the league? Anywhere? Even sniffing a practice squad?? Of course not, cuz nobody needs a noodle arm that can only make about 25% of the throws required by an actual NFL QB

:nono::nono::nono: The whole football world “thought” they knew Rudy’s ceiling now didn’t they?
What's changed?

Rudolph is decent enough to come in off the bench and win a few games for his team (in this case against poor pass defenses and/or backups), but not good enough to beat a quality opponent in the playoffs -- evidenced by his 80 passer rating with a crucial redzone INT.

He's a good backup quarterback. That's still his ceiling, now isn't it?

I disagree "vehemently." I know many were blaming the play calling and it being predictable, many wanted Canada to replace Fichtner at the time. I absolutely was blaming the OC.

You do know they were different OCs right?

What I'm saying is practically EVERYONE on the Steelers, fan base, & NFL Community thought of Rudy as an afterthought....The NFL gave him no contract offer last year, that's how he ended up back in the Burgh...No one cared about him all season & by the start of the NFL Playoffs the NFL whole world had their eyes sternly fixed on him. Great Showcase for the young man

Are you absolutely sure he ain't gonna get a shot to start somewhere?

Definitely, but against the Buffalo Bills, the HCOC went turtle ball, which was equivalent to the O’Canada OC.

So in closing, they had similar OC for one game anyway.

Salute the nation

Kenny was afraid to throw the quick hit. Probably Tomlin brainwashing. Mason hit a few of those. Fans got boners. That is where it stands.
Right, of course Tomlin brainwashing. Of course when Mason did it right off top to Pickens who gets credit then? The logic of some people on here is imbecilic and it doesn't take long to realize it. Your comment was just a handful of comments into the thread. Unfortunately you're one of those people who can't keep Tomlin off the brain so it impairs your thinking.

I am an imbecile. But I am happy and have approx 20lbs of Peppered bacon in 3 freezers. Not 60lbs unfortunately a total of 20lbs.

If Mason doesn't resign I wouldn't mind bringing in someone like Minshew. I think he could push Pickett and also help. He is very scrappy and plays with alot of heart. I would take him over tannehill
I think that 4 to 8 million dollar range that Minshaw fits in is perfect... they guy isnt a long term solution but absolutely can be a filler...

But like Mayfield he also made the pro bowl this year... so maybe my estimation of him getting 4-8 is low......

Kenny should have learned a lot on the sidelines. Mitch played not to lose and was tight, Mason had nothing to lose, Tomlin mistreated him and he went out on the field and made Tomlin's decision making stand out. Kenny was crowned too soon. Kenny needs to get his head on straight this training camp and season is big for him. Mason has Tomlin having to make a big decision, pay him or lose him.

The problem is I think Kenny seems to think he deserves to be crowned, his snippy response when asked if he learned anything on the sidelines, Tomlin leaving him as the #1 QB on the depth chart even while Mason was starting, him as a team captain not showing for clean out day and talking, he seems mentally fragile.

A warm welcome to the head cheerleader of the Tomlin fan club. You must be from Facebook.
I did challenge a few of them to come here and get schooled.

Duck is no longer playing but he’s busy hanging out with his girlfriend, country singer Lainey Wilson. Between him and Travis Kelce I think he got the better looking singer.

Oh my, yes, Lainey over Taylor and it's not even close.
