Here’s my thing. Mike Tomlin is not a horrible coach. You don’t dumbass your way to 18 consecutive non-losing seasons. It’s a remarkable accomplishment.
That said, I have a hard time reconciling that with his lack of playoff success. Has playoff wins in only 4 of 18 seasons. 8-11 playoff record. No playoff wins since 2016. And no one in the fawning national media ever mentions that. It’s always just the regular season stuff.
And thinking about it, his playoff record might be worse if not for the fact that you can win multiple games in a playoff year, but only lose once. Wonder what it would look like if the playoffs were double elimination.
I don’t know. The contrast between regular season and playoffs is baffling. I feel like any other coach with Tomlin’s track record would have been canned. Andy Reid was fired for less. Muh stability, I guess.
