Never mind.

Yes I like Tomlin and I am not going to ******* apologize for it. I also can criticize him for things as well. If you don’t like my liking him then just ignore me. I will do the same for you from here on out. You and others can just continue to constantly repeat the same mindless thing over and over again in every ******* thread.
I like Tomlin, too. I think he does a lot that goes beyond football that we do not see with these young men.

That being said, the football part just isn't getting it done. I have always given him the benefit of the doubt, mainly because no one on here, including me, really knows anything about what goes on. It's all just bs speculation. For example, I always get a kick out of "I can predict what they are gonna do!" Well, hell, on offense you can either run the ball or pass it, so it really ain't that hard. I can predict what other teams are gonna do too with some accuracy. But after listening to DK recently, who is closer to the situation, and him being exasperated at Tomlin's stubbornness, his need to be right, that he's either gotta really change or the Steelers have to go in a different direction. It isn't working.

I like Tomlin, I am just no longer enamored with his coaching.

You can see what Tomlin has been trying to do. He thinks you have to run the football, and I agree, because with the lack of tackling in training camps and practices, one would think that would be very effective especially late in the year. But then he gets Najee Harris instead of a guy more like Saquan Barkley.

He tries to settle down the chaos in the receiver room by offloading Antonio Brown, but then drafts guys like Diontae Johnson and George Pickens.

He wants RPOs and things like that in the offense, which is good, but he hires Matt Canada and drafts Kenny Pickett. It seems like he tries to take a step forward, but other decisions he makes cause two steps back. He seems like he can't get out of his own way at times.
I don’t disagree with running the football. I disagree with running with the predictability and lack of consistency that they do. At times, it is situationally retarded, and yet they still do it.

I’m not suggesting they should try to become the greatest show on turf, but they genuinely suck at situational football.

Go out and pay-over pay if you have to-a young, innovative, up and coming offensive mind. Implement his offense with players that fit the scheme and get out of his way. This team has talent. Just need someone that can get the most out of them.

My apologies for coming across condescending. I was simply trying to have one thread where we could discuss strategies and the x and os that could be changed by Tomlin without having to argue about whether he should or shouldn’t be the coach. Real football discussion not the endless debate should he stay or should he go. I enjoy debating the actual football part and the strategy part. Divorced from the angst of the rest. Every thread devolves into this partisan divide. Much like politics.
The strategy is pretty simple, bring coordinators that know x&o's and Tomlin has to let them scheme without interfering, is quite clear he is incapable of such and can't stay with the changes that have happened to the sport regarding rules helping the passing game.
The Tampa 2 bullshit and handcuffing O playcall has undermined this team for all his tenure.

Let him inspire the players and push them to be the best they can but please don't let him call gameplans or we are ****** for three more years

It’s pretty clear now.
Nobody really hates Tomlin, that’s a horrible accusation.
We only hate our fellow fans that support him..

Going back to the original question: What needs to happen if Tomlin stays is either 1) a brain transplant with that of a competent college coach or 2) Rooney selects competent coordinators and forces him to leave them alone to do their job.

Didn't you state in post #37 that one would be niave to think that no one actually "hates" Tomlin?
I don’t hate as it is unhealthy
I especially don’t hate anything about my (tied for) favorite team

I like everything Steelers
Mike just happens to be near the very bottom of my “like list” as in I like just about every other thing about the Steelers more.

Sadly the Rooney family is sliding down the like
List as well do to their continued tolerance of mediocrity

If you are going to take virtually ALL the responsibilities away from the Head Coach, why even keep him? Your suggestion does nothing about the real problem.

I once worked for a company that took this approach, it actually seemed to make the problems worse. The ownership of the company took virtually all the duties away from the President of operations, and installed 5 Departmental Managers directly below him. I was hired as the warehousing and shipping manager. What transpired was that the 5 Dept heads took it as a mandate from ownership that he had no power to interfere. This created 5 departments that answered to no one, and we lost almost 50% of employees (90% of the ones that were really needed) within the first 6-12 months. My department went unscathed, as they weren’t really part of the problem in the first place as well as really small (12 employees). It was a regular shitshow each and every day until the time things got so bad they sold the company after about 14 months. The company that bought them did so to eliminate competition and to acquire contracts that were held. The plant closed within a month from sale. We were the last employees to be let go, as we had 4ea 50,000 ft2 warehouses full of product that had to be shipped before closure.

The smartest move would have been to fire and hire a new President of operations in the first place and then let that person reconfigure how the company operated.
The premise by the OP was that Tomlin had to stay

So I outlined the map of how he stays but the team gets unstuck from purgatory

Any sensible man would just trade him and if he didn’t accept the trade can him

I was simply playing the stupid “he has to stay game” presented.

But you got my point, yes indeed all his powers to continually screw things up should be stripped and press the reset button heading in a new direction instead.
