Next year's coach?

I don't disagree, but if it meant Tomlin be gone it would have been well worth it.......big picture.
The Steelers wanted to give him security to usher in a new QB. They let a retiring GM do the final draft (so you'd assume the HC would have a major influence over it) and they selected a bust with Kenny Pickett. Typically, that would be enough to get a coach fired. Then they let him go with Fields/Wilson. That also failed. Still not fired. Now he's on his third attempt at a QB post-Ben and it is also going to fail. How many failures does he get?

I don't blame anyone for hiring Tomlin. Im sure he came in, said the right things, and just blew them away in the interview. As for the others candidates at the time it is hard to say how they would have done here. We had a stacked team so it would have been much better than going to a crappy team. As for Cowher that is a hard pass. I think he is slipping mentally. He makes a lot of mistakes on air now. Shepard seems to be up and coming fast. The Lions play aggressive and didn't miss a beat when they were missing alot of guys in the secondary. Apparently they know how to communicate. I do not want a defensive guy, but wouldn't mind this choice. I think we need someone young and hungry.

While I would take almost anyone with a heartbeat, Mikey is guaranteed 16 million per for the next two years and an owner that's good with a .500 season.
Why would he leave?
Deuce doesn't pay people to sit at home. Heck, he waited until Matt Canaduh had only half a season left and that's as bad as it gets.

I know everyone wants a fresh, offensive minded coach. But going off Steelers tradition, Kelvin Shepherd has done some nice things in Detroit and has moved up coaching ranks quickly. Curious what others think of someone like that?
My #1 choice, promote Artie Smith to HC and rehire Todd Haley as OC. The best offensive stats of Shades' tenure was the five years with Haley. Along with a new DC.
My #2, hire Brian Flores as HC (it's a promotion so the Vikings can't say no) and interview Smith to see what he can do when turned loose or rehire Todd Haley. Along with a new DC.
Hire Deebo as Strength & Conditioning coach.
****, even I don't lift that much.

I always think of a good friend of mine, ugly mother- ****** who could talk and talk and talk. He always got any woman he tried for back in the day. Id always ask wTF man….how do you do it? He’d laugh his *** off and go….bull-**** baffles brains every time.

Mike Tomlin could teach a masterclass of bull****ing.
But you always remember and respect the cardinal rule:

Ya cant bullshit a bullshitter *favorite saying of a fellow NCO in my unit back in my Army days*

And he was absolutely right. lol

Arthur Smith as HC? Lol whatchoo smoking over there, Ron? Hayyyyyl to the naw!

My pipedream scenario that absolutely, 100% would never happen in a million years is for Sean McVay's contract to come to an end with the Rams right around the same time Tomlin leaves Pittsburgh, and McVay gets them into a bidding war with other clubs for his services, including the Steelers. And somehow, some crazy way, he ends up in Pittsburgh as the next coach of this team. Could you imagine? I'd **** my pants out of sheer delight

Joe Lombardi, Broncos OC. His resume speaks for itself. Wonder why he's not been a HC yet.

Klint Kubiak, Seattle OC. He could even entice Kennedy Polamalu to come with him (maybe as OC?) from Seattle. Ties to Pittsburgh that way. And potentially even his own brother, Klay, the 49ers pass game specialist.

I believe you're correct, DEI got him the interview, his ability to talk and talk and talk got him the job.

I’d argue Art’s lack of football acumen got him the job. Art went shopping for a new car and bought a mechanically unsound vehicle because he liked the radio station that was on during his test drive.

I think all of that was a mistake and most of us knew that.

Oh Tomlin had 99.9999 % say in Pickett, no way they'd let the GM who is retiring after the draft make that pick over the 16 year HC who was staying.

If these are the options, just keep Tomlin as head coach. Arthur Smith is not the answer. He's an average OC who doesn't know how to run a passing game.

I like Flores, but he's not the type of coach this team needs right now. They need to blow up their way of thinking and old-school defense isn't the way to go.

Smitty was a pretty good OC with the Titans but flamed out as HC with the Falcons.
I just wonder how much he's handcuffed by Shades' conservative philosophy.
Flores is at least qualified but he would need to hire a good OC, turn him loose, and not bother him.

I think he'd be good if they got Derek Henry output from the running game here too. I think we'd all love to see what us said behind closed doors about passing and defending the middle of the field.

Look at those three and Russ Grimm. None of them did **** really as head coaches. That was a weak crop for the job to begin with. If it's a close call, the best interview gets the job. That's just my opinion, but he's been here a long *** time for being given the job based on something as intangible as that nonsense. I'm not a Tomlin fan myself, but I can see the difference between a young guy who had a great interview getting a chance and hiring some retread or a guy with just as little experience who didn't have that interview.

Whisenhunt took over the Cardinals, who won 6, 5, and 5 games in the previous three seasons. Next three years, 8, 9, and 10.

Rivera took over a 2-14 team, by his 3rd through 7th years had them in the playoffs 4 of 5 years, including a Super Bowl appearance.

Who’s to say how they would have done taking over a team that was 2-years removed from a trophy, 3 years removed from 15-1 and AFCC appearance, with a franchise QB in his prime? With ownership that would give him as long as he wanted?

Sorry, brain fart. I remember saying a while ago that I'd like Jon Gruden. Probably won't happen though. Promoting Smitty is more realistic.
If it comes to that, Deuce will probably want to stick to The Steelers Way and hire another unknown coordinator like Noll, Chin, and Shades.

He is why they won after Cowher left. Called his own plays like Bradshaw. Beats the hell out of what we have now. Ben was an assassin, an attacker. Plus he learned killer instinct from Cowher. Don’t give me that fat Jonah head shaking weak *** ****.

Broncos OC would be solid. They are not exactly stacked at skill positions

I think you are living in the past. Gruden was awful when he came back and Haley hasn't been in the NFL since 2018. I think we need an offensive HC, but I wouldn't mind Flores as coach or DC.

are you kidding me? I thought you were joking. Please tell me you're high on ether right now.

Ben, as the coach of the Steelers. Good GOD what a stupid ******* idea

Killer instinct from Cowher? Cowher played Marty Ball. His goal was to get up ten and sit on it. Man I wonder what they will be saying about Tomlin in 10-15 years. Mythology.

I would have to say Coach Cowher did have a killer instinct based on his record when having a 10 point lead as you mentioned in a game.
As a reminder, his record in those games was 108-1-1.
So to me if you were an opposing team and you were down by 10 points in a game at any time against Bill Cowher’s Steelers, you might as well start getting on the bus home

I’d like an offensive minded coach especially if we draft a QB in round one.
Clint Kubiak I’ve always liked a lot. Disciple of Kyle Shanahan in SF.
Bobby Slowik…. Form Texan OC who got raw deal here in Houston. Young, innovative and good with young QBs. Also worked under Kyle Shanahan in SF.
Cliff Kingsbury great offensive mind who is very innovative and works well with young QBs. I know, he did not have a good tenure in Arizona but who really does well there.
ND HC Marcus Freeman. I like this guy a lot. Very articulate and seems to relate and work well with the young college kids.
Oh nooooo, what will we do if Coach Shades is gone? The franchise will just dissolve into the Allegheny, Monongahela or the Ohio. Oh no, save us Dear Lord!
Kubiak is who i would want with Minter being a close second.
