Defensive-focused Draft
1.17 Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
-The Steelers have signed/shown interest in bullies along the offensive line this offseason and Jones fits the bill.
2.32 Mazi Smith, DL, Michigan
-Tomlin met with Smith and he'd beef up the interior of the defensive line. This would help set up the new ILBs for success.
2.49 Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson
-Tomlin loves athletes at ILB and he was at Clemson's pro day. Simpson fits the bill and would be a rotational ILB to fill the coverage role.
3.80 Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
-Ringo seems like a boom/bust prospect. Given the draft board at this point, he was worth the risk.
4.120 Ji'Ayir Brown, S, Penn State
-Box safety in anticipation the Steelers don't sign Edmunds.
7.235 T.J. Bass, OL, Oregon
-Teams can never have enough depth on the offensive line. Will likely kick inside, but may have G/T versatility.
7.242 Brandon Hill, S, Pitt
-More traditional in the safety role, one of the most athletic prospects at the position with the ability to contribute on special teams.
Offensive-focused Draft
1.17 Jordan Addison, WR, USC (Pitt)
-I'm not worried about his 40 time because I'm drafting him for his route running, not speed. Steeler are thin at receiver an need a legitimate third option in the slot. Addison will fill that role year 1 and take over as the No. 2 in 2024 as Pickens moves in as the No. 1 target.
2.32 Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State
-I think the Steelers want to be physical up front and Jones would take a step in that direction. Absolutely massive, he can be a dominant right tackle if he lives up to his potential.
2.49 Siaki Ika, IDL, Baylor
-A two-down player in the NFL, I'm not worried about his lack of pass rush because the Steelers just signed two downhill LBs. Let them feast by getting a big body in the middle of the defense (I know they don't value this position, but maybe things will change).
3.80 Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Michigan
-Finding another Michigan tight end to replace Gentry. Capable run blocker and probably a better receiver than Gentry. True No. 2 tight end potential will help in both the run and pass game.
4.120 Dorian Williams, LB, Tulane
-Here is your coverage linebacker to join the rotation.
7.235 Nick Hampton, EDGE, Appalachian State
-Small school pass rushing prospect.
7.242 Evan Hull, RB, Northwestern
-Tough to keep a healthy backfield all year, so trying to find a No. 3. Hull has good speed and is a capable receiver out of the backfield.
