1.17 Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State
Not a great draft board for the Steelers. I'm sticking with their history of Tomlin/GM attending the pro day of the first-round pick. Jones falls in line with the massive linemen they've been trying to add this offseason.
2.32 Brian Branch, DB, Alabama
Best player available at this point of the draft. I considered Emmanuel Forbes here given his ball skills, but the slight frame has me concerned when the Steelers expect physical play from their defensive backs.
2.49 Mazi Smith, IDL, Michigan
I don't like passing on Jack Campbell here, but it feels like the Steelers are serious about upgrading the trenches. I could also see going Bresee at 32 and Campbell at 49.
3.80 Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Michigan
An ascending player in terms of development. Taking advantage of the deep TE class and grabbing a legit TE2 in the third round. I see the value in 12 personnel, but more importantly, I think he's the best player available at this slot.
4.120 Jonathan Mingo, WR, Mississippi
Big bodied slot receiver. Contrasts nicely with what the Steelers already have at the position.
7.234 Karl Brooks, IDL, Bowling Green
If I'm going to draft a prospect from a smaller school, I'm going to get one who made a living in the backfield.
7.241 Brandon Hill, DB, Pitt
Looking for athletic players this late in the draft.
