NFL 2023 draft simulator

B. Jones and P Johnson won't be there at pick #17. Skoronski won't be there at pick #32. IMO all three guys will be off the board before pick #17.

How about we see what actually happens. When was the last draft a guy "fell" in the draft, much to the surprise of the "experts"? Oh yeah, all of them.

D Jones and A Harrison may be there at pick #32. Or they may not.

Yeah, I think that pretty much covers it. Or not.

the only 2 positions I am convinced they wont take in the 1st is RB and QB. of course not P/K But anything where else? pending on how the draft unfolds it could be anywhere.

  • No trade. Top OT's off board, take a big, physical CB who can take on the big AFCN WR's, a plug-and-play 0-tech DT, a very talented ILB who can cover, run with TE's and blitz, developmental LT, very good WR, a TE to back up Freiermuth and a solid IOL who can supplant Cole in 2024. Three or four starters and three developmental players.

What worries me of drafting Porter Jr is that we will still need to draft a Nickel CB, while taking someone like Witherspoon, Cam Smith or Forbes would cover both needs in one player

Pretty sure they signed Pierre. Wallace, Witherspoon?
I think Pierre signed a one year deal and Witherspoon and Wallace are in the last year of their contracts = Peterson only CB under contract for 2024.

I thought they should have signed Pierre to a multi-year deal while he is still affordable. He is a very good CB.

Peterson, Wallace, Pierre, A. Witherspoon and a draft pick make a pretty deep CB group.

I hope Peterson can live up to the expectations in this new system. I also hope he hasn’t lost to much in speed either.

I do think he will be fine, just a little to think about.

  • Would love for the draft to break this way. B. Jones and P. Johnson both gone, and I think Wright is going to be a lot better than D. Jones. I just see waaaay too much Zach Banner in D. Jones. Branch solves the angst some have out "slot defensive back" and Sanders is an incredible value at 49. Dude can run, cover, hit, blow up running plays and get off blocks. Rush underrated as a CB, big, fast, really impressed at Senior Bowl. I prefer getting Brents or Rush at 80 if/when Gonzalez is gone by 17. Pickens also great value this late. Ford-Wheaton a ton of tools, but some dropsies. Bennett because I think he is mobile enough to make a good backup QB.
  • Improve the secondary x 2 - check.
  • Improve ILB - check.
  • Improve DL - check.
  • Improve OT - check.
  • Get developmental WR - check
  • Get developmental QB - check

not my favorite draft, and isnt bad, but looks like something we'd do.

Sanders worries me with the missed tackles. He had a 19.6 missed tackle rate last year compared to 11.6 for Simpson and 8.9 for Campbell.

Yeah, but he moved to ILB, racked up 103 tackles, 9.5 sacks so he is doing something right. Also, he has the combination size and speed to run with a TE up the seam.

I think Campbell is great and mocked him in my drafts at least 10 times but in looking a few All-22 (vs. Florida, LSU), I saw a guy who reacted to the play incredibly quickly. He just looks like a guy who is going to get better and better the next 3-4 years.

Traded down twice and doubled the picks, 32 to 33 and 49 to 56.

17. Anton Harrison, LT - a stretch here, but would be gone at 32, and Jones, Johnson, Skoronski, and Wright were already off the board.
33. Brian Branch, S - I don't think we will miss Edmonds with this pick.
56. Jack Campbell, ILB - Sanders was still there, Simpson gone.
73. Julius Brents, CB
80. Derick Hall, Edge
88. Tucker Kraft, TE
120. Zaach Pickens, DL
121. Tyler Steen, OT
127. Kayshon Boutte, WR
226. Evan Hall, RB
230. Alex Forsyth, IOL
234. SirVoncea Dennis, LB - homer pick
241. Dylan Horton, Edge
259. Carter Warren, OT

so you just drafted the entire 2023 class?

Here's a new draft simulator I ran across: https://www.espnsportsanalytics.com/nfl-sim

However, let's mock the mock: https://www.draftcountdown.com/nfl-mock-draft/2023-7-round-mock-draft-rounds-1-3-shane-12-0/

1.17 Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
-The Steelers don't have an obvious pick this year, but it's hard to see the Steelers passing him if he's available.

2.32 Dawand Jones, OT Ohio State
-I think they want a massive tackle and Jones fits the bill. He isn't my personal top selection as this spot, but rather what I think the team will do.

2.49 Mazi Smith, DL, Michigan
-The Steelers are in big on the interior defensive line with Smith. They spent quite a bit of time with him and I think he's the favorite interior guy along with Benton and Dexter.

3.80 Jonathan Mingo, WR, Ole Miss
-This is all about surrounding Pickett with talent. They already have some undersized guys, here is a bigger option.

4.120 Olu Oluwatimi, C, Michigan
-Continuing to build depth and give the Steelers a true backup at center.

Skipping out on picking in the 7th.

Porter concerns me. He isn't multipositional as in you can move him around. Probably just a border corner. He doesn't seem instinctual with low interception production. Is he too handsy? Just seems like the type of corner that's value is more toward the bottom of 1 vs the middle of the round. Probably enough talent to be at least a solid number 2 corner, but is that what we want from a relatively high pick? If we were to redraft Sutton would we pick him at 17? With him I am more concerned if the team simply are getting their best value in comparison in who is left on the board. In a class of interesting corners not sure this is the corner, I would want at 17. Now at 32 I would be more on board with.
