I've bought in that Weidl will have a big influence on this draft and that will include building the team through the trenches as they've done so well in Philadelphia. Capable run defender with flashes of pass rush ability. Gervon Dexter would not be a surprise here either. (I'd be tempted to trade up for Jack Campbell).
3.80 Dorian Williams, LB, Tulane
Athletic linebacker with coverage ability. Brings a different set of skills from the guys the Steelers signed this offseason.
4.120 Riley Moss, CB, Iowa
Good size and speed. What stands out most is his 11 INTs, something the Steelers seem to value from their DBs.

OK, if I see someone else on here or another social media site or even PG chat ask about moving Chuks to LT, I am going to climb through the computer and smack the person silly. Why do people seem to forget something from less than 2 years ago. Chuks was supposed to be our LT for 3+ years and could not uplevel his game to be a true starter. Moving him to RT was his only option and he is average there. He is definitely replaceable. Moore is going into his 3rd year and did improve in his 2nd year even with a terrible OC and a terrible G next to him. I do think the Steelers think he would be OK going into 2023 as their starter expecting him to improve and with a good G playing next to him for the first time so he won't have to worry about covering for them. This is also why I am hesitant about taking Wright at 17 as he is a natural RT and wasn't very good at LT. If Broderick Jones fell to us at 17, he is one LT you would run to the podium for and then hope Moore can learn RT and bounce Chuks to swing tackle. Chuks ceiling is already here. Moore still hasn't reached his ceiling at LT and especially not RT if they decide to try him there. I definitely don't see Chuks lasting past his current contract.

My first mock. Togh to figure whicyh directions the steelers will go post Colbert. I am figuring Weidl to bring his Eagles experince and put huge value on OL and DL.
In this mock, Porter was gone by 17 which kind of made OT the no brainer. That's assuming the Steelers see OT as a need. Fans and Steelers have had far different views on OL for year but it seems obvious the Steelers are changing their tune on that.

Two trade backs but still stayed in round 1. Grabbed Wright, who will probably be a RT and shouldn't take much to beat out Chuks. Shored up the center of the D with a big athletic NT and an ILB that just has the look of a Steeler. Brents, Hall, Mingo, and Harrison are all good value. I think Hall is the pass rush specialist on the outside while Harrison being so big can play more DE. Either way, it solidifies the position in case the Steelers don't want to pay Highsmith well north of $15 million which seems to be the talk. All in all, I think I could handle how this played out.

Mingo is a guy I keep going back to because he brings something different to the table. He's the battle between his production--it was okay--versus his potential. He's a big time athlete who seems to have only begun to touch his potential. GM's love players of his size and athleticism and I could see him going much higher than his ranking on this site.
Next question…Can Cody Mauch play tackle. I’ve seen him listed as IOL and G/T.

He was the highest-rated player on the board that included a Pro Day visit. I'll admit he scares me as a prospect with his injury history and lack of production. Bresee seems to be a project who may take 3-4 years to fully develop, but along the defensive line, we saw Cam Heyward play his best football as he got older. Again, a bit rich of a pick for Bresee, but I'm going solely on ranking and the Pro Day visit here.

I was hoping Wright would fall and he did. I think he's a capable Day 1 starter at right tackle. There just weren't any left tackles available and figured I could upgrade here.

Maybe the most athletic center in this draft. He may not win a starting as a rookie, but he's a big, athletic center who will be the long-term starter in the near future.

With the offensive line secured, it was time to add one more piece so I got my slot receiver. Mingo is ultra athletic and a big receiver. He can play the slot early on with the potential to move outside when DJ's contract runs out.

A project at cornerback. He has good size and ball skills. Peterson will help mentor Rush into an NFL role.
4.120 Ji'Ayir Brown, S, Penn State
Everything about his scouting report screams solid starter in the NFL. I think he contributes early and establishes himself as a long-term player in the league. Not a future All-Pro, but a guy who helps you win.

An older prospect, he's a good athlete who will learn from Watt and Highsmith in hopes of eventually developing into a rotational backup.
