These guys feel we will stick with Russ in the short term, while adding a rookie for the long. I wouldn't disagree with that. They feel Alabama's Jalen Milroe fits with the Steelers and will be there at 21. It's hard to say whether he will or not at this point. I'm lukewarm on him at this point. Can he settle in and become a true NFL passer at this point? We know what Tomlin will do to the poor guy: Run, run, pass playbook, no passes to the middle of the field.

Will Howard has gotten some later hype. A lot like him for Pgh but his ranking is growing, some have him getting picked sooner than Pgh's pick. But if he's still there, should Pgh take him at 21? If we entered 2025 with Russ as the starter and Howard as the backup, I could live with that, until Fraudlin gets his incompetent QB hands on him.

Re-sign the much younger more athletic Justin and try and develop him.
Bobby Slowik was just let go in Houston and I’d be pursuing him to come in as an assistant OC QB Coach to work with Justin.
Slowik did a nice job with Stroud in Houston even though CJ didn’t have as good a season in 24 but still had decent numbers and won a playoff game.

The worst thing the Steelers can do is retain "Moonball" Russ, draft one of these middle road QB's in a very poor QB draft class, and hinge on that QB to be your solution for the long term.

And that is EXACTLY what they'll do.

The sliver of light in this scenario is that if Russ gets injured, god forbid, then a rookie QB will earn Tomlin his first losing season and all the media talking heads can use it as an excuse to say "This isn't on Tomlin, any coach will struggle in this scenario" and we as fans finally get to watch the Steelers pick top ten.

I'm having trouble with the "develop him" side of things. He's in what year? 5th year? And we speak of Fields as "developing?" Serious question: What QB, even in the dark, non-free agent era, has a QB developed after 5 years? Even Bradshaw developed before 5 years. Yes, his 1st few years were rough, but after 5? Fields is an athletic, non-QB. It happens all the time. Now, Daniels? That kid is a QB all the way. He has "it." Fields doesn't.

You're forgetting Fraudlin's super hero skill: getting teams with crap QBs to a non-losing season. How many times do we have to witness this super strength? He's bound to do it again, whether with a Kenny Pickett or Duck Hodges or Mason Rudolph.

None of the middle road QBs are in the realm of Kenny or Mason. Duck, yes...but he was benched and rightly so.

Fields and Milroe are similar players. Fields has more talent. I'd rather stick with Fields for a few years trying to develop him than Milroe.

Fields is a better prospect than any QB in this draft. They should go all in on Fields for 25. If you want Russ as a backup, fine. Then in 26, when Pittsburgh hosts the draft, they can draft their next QB if Fields still isn't working out.

I thought I had read that with Pete Carol taking over the LV Raiders that there was going to be a reunion of “Moonball” & “Hugger” coach. Evidently they have buried any hatchets needed to be buried. He would be a bridge QB until LV figures out the QB situation.

It was said that the STEELERS were a little roughed at moonball with the 5 game slide. They watched the PO-game and are even less wanting him to return,

I know Russ has talked about returning, but that talk has quieted since the PO-loss.

This is speculation as I can’t remember who wrote the article.

My Scoop

I don’t see the Moon Ball returning. I see the STEELERS (Mike Tomlin) being frustrated. I see Coach Tomlin wanting to fit the Justin Fields into his square peg of offense. Justine will do as well as the Russ would have done,.

If only the offense could be opened up for Fields, he has enough experience to run this offense and no need to baby him.

In Tomlins last interview, he said there has to be change. Us fans are saying yes and seeing / hoping that change in win and playoff advancement. I’m afraid Tomlin is seeing that change being the players need to execute this ****-hole scheme better, to get the wins.

Your love affair with Daniel's is ridiculous. He was the #2 over all pick. Fields was #11, not only that, Fields has had 4 different OC'S. That's how you can call him developing, because he has yet to have type of consistency

There are a lot of videos out there dissecting Fields play the first six games, all showed signs of improvement.

Drink, I think Tomlin’s changes are strictly in the roster.
Revolving door with players but same sticky results running the same ****** offense and defense as you say.
The guy cannot get out of his own arrogant, stubborn way. Thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room.

I vote no. Keep Fields on short term, look to next year or so coming drafts for franchise.

It's not too early. We need a qb. Fields is a #2. Russ sucks. Tomlin doesn't " develop " players. If we draft a qb he will be on his own. Tomlin will find another qb that is fading. That's how he runs the team.

Does it matter who we bring in (coaches/players) or draft? As long as Tomlin keeps his fingers in the pot on both sides of the ball we will be who we are....who we have been. Right now I can't get hyped at any addition this offseason thinking they might make a difference. Groundhog day year 2025 sadly. To be honest I am tired of harping on these issues as much as some are tired of reading "Tomlin hate" posts/threads. Unfortunately everything comes back to Tomlin. He is the HC. He is basically our OC/DC. He calls the shots. They are his schemes and philosophies. ☹️

I just do not have the optimism that some do as it relates to Fields improving enough to be the long-term answer at QB.

Given the Steelers QB situation, I think it's just blind hope from fans more than anything else

I'm fine with Fields being the QB next season, as long as the Steelers don't overcommit on the contract. There's a "chance" he could significantly improve, but I wouldn't expect it.

The Steelers QB options for next year are just limited, especially with it looking like a weak QB draft.

I would look into maybe trading for someone like Trevor Lawrence, who I think still has a better chance of developing into a franchise QB than Fields does, but that contract would need to be restructured.

let Russ get on with his life's work
sign Fields to team friendly 3 yr deal with incentives.
sign a FA project QB on a cheap 1 yr deal
draft an athletic project QB on the third day of the draft.
Have 4 athletic qbs all develop under an OC, a QB coach and QB consultant guru.
add low cost RBs, ensure three starting WRs.
lets go!

I’m hoping Ole Pete Carroll takes Russ off our
hands

I like Russ, but for another team
Wouldn't it be something if Pete got more out of Russ than Fraudlin has? More evidence of piss poor coaching coming home to roost. And at another year older. I wonder what Art would have to say then? More "I'm glad he's the head coach of our team?"

I'm with you on the Fields chance of development; I just don't see it. He's 5 years into his journey with no signs of improvement. He's an athlete but not a QB. They are 2 different things. But I also don't believe in Trevor Lawrence, what is he waiting on? He was supposed to be the most can't-miss QB super star but what has he done? I just don't see it. I mean, he's "OK" at QB but not much more. He's around top 20 maybe. He was supposed to be this amazing QB prospect. Didn't happen.
