Not too early: what to do at QB?

Yea, but long shot sometimes come through. Have you heard of Tom Brady? He was a 6th rounder who only ended up being the best QB ever. Not too shabby, 7 rings. But he's not the only long shot.

Tom Brady - 7 rings, nothing else needs said. The greatest QB to ever play.
Nick Foles - won a ring.
Kurt Warner - A nobody no one wanted, SBs and records.
Geno Smith
Brock Purdy - very last player drafted, not doing too bad.
Dak Prescott - not bad for a 4th rounder
Tony Romo
Warren Moon - Had to go to Canada to even play his first several year, ended up scoring leader in NFL for a few years.
Russ Wilson - won a SB, made it to another where he was ripped off. Not a 1st rounder.
Roger Staubach
Drew Brees - 2nd rounder who owns many records and a SB.
Doug Flutie - not bad for being drafted in the 11th round.
Ryan Fitzpatrick - Not bad for a 7th rounder.
that is 13 people going back to the 70s. those odds kinda suck. and 1/2 of those did not win a Super Bowl.

Rodgers shouldn't even be a consideration. He is 41 and has lost a lot. Why on earth would you even consider a guy who is retiring any day now.
But he all but likely is going to get cut and we all know Shades loves his A-A-Ron like A-A-Ron loves his ayahuasca. So like it or not get ready for his name to pop up with the Steelers a lot this offseason.
If I'm the GM and these are my choices, I go with Fields. He is still young. He has not reached his ceiling yet. He showed improvement this past season even though his hands were tied from doing much in the passing game. I go with him for at least a year or two in this system and see if he continues to improve. If so, he's your guy moving forward. If not, draft someone. In fact, I look to see if any QB's fall this year or next that have potential and can sit behind Fields for a couple of years to learn.
I agree. I feel he probably can be signed for the most reasonable contract and still has some upside.

Russ was the best QB on our roster last year but I feel the Raiders overpay him to reconnect with Carroll and I was only interested in him as a stopgap anyways.

Here’s a side note on Rodgers. He had nearly 4k yards with 28 tds to 11 ints. Really not bad numbers. He’s not in his prime for certain but he’s still 70% of what he was. So I wouldn’t hate a friendly contract A-A-Ron signing for a bridge between a younger player. It would at the very least give guys like Watt and Heyward a possibility for a ring. Otherwise if we aren’t going to keep up the facade then we might as well trade them to the Chiefs so they can get a ring next year.

Well go ahead and take one in the 5th or later. Just don't waste one in the first or second because the crop isn't good. And if there actually is a couple there are about 5-7 QB starved teams ahead due to 10-7.

Let Russ go.

Sign Fields. 2 yrs? Get him a QB whisperer and see if he can read defenses better and somehow teach him some touch. The team played well around him and he can do a lot with his legs when needed. If no improvement....see ya after contract is up.

Sign Allen again as # 3.

Sign a vet at vet minimum to work with JF as needed.

Snag a QB in the earlier draft rounds next year when there'll be more options. Can sit a yr. or 2 with a clipboard and learn.

Just my $ .02

I'm hearing we should sign Cam Newton as a vet qb for minimum salary as qb whisperer.

Is he in jail?

Stick with Fields and let Russ walk, it's better to try and build around Fields instead of wasting draft capital in a weak QB Draft.

Hopefully next year's draft can provide a QB if Fields proves unworthy.
And Tom Brady was a weak 6th-round draft pick, the best QB to ever play.

Fields.

The only home Russ should be in is Bethany Village

And had he gone to another team that didn't cheat, we never would have heard of one Tom Brady. He would have been passed around the league as a back-up like most 6th round QB's are. You think Brock Purdy plays the way he's playing now if he would have been drafted by us? He probably would have been cut and signed to the PS. The situation a player is drafted into is just as important as the player themselves.

OK, your one of them: a Brady denier. Yea, he was a production of cheating, all 7 rings. He even left New England and went down to Tampa and cheated more there, winning another Super Bowl. That's right, all of Brady's success was purely from deflating balls. Yea, you make perfect sense now. You don't even sound nutty or anything.

You are patently insane.

There was more cheating involved than deflating balls. And as I said, if had gone to another team, where they didn't cheat with filming practices, and their starter didn't get hurt forcing him into action, we don't know who Tom Brady is. A lot of things had to break just right for him to do what he did. The whole NE franchise is a product of cheating.

Don’t forget to add. “THE MOST CHEATING QB TO EVER PLAY” as well.

I'm with you on the Fields chance of development; I just don't see it. He's 5 years into his journey with no signs of improvement. He's an athlete but not a QB. They are 2 different things. But I also don't believe in Trevor Lawrence, what is he waiting on? He was supposed to be the most can't-miss QB super star but what has he done? I just don't see it. I mean, he's "OK" at QB but not much more. He's around top 20 maybe. He was supposed to be this amazing QB prospect. Didn't happen.
I'll dispute that. Did you watch Fields with the Bears? His 6-game stretch here was significant improvement. 10 TD 1 INT and 4-2 record. I think there's some hope that a full year in the system and designing an offense around him, not Russ, could garner another boost to his performance. We'll see......

I don't agree, 5 years is enough that we should have seen more signs.

Who you got better? Rodgers? Russell? Cousins? Darnold? I'd be okay if they singed Darnold at 3 years for $90. But he likely wouldn't fit Smith's system. Fields is the best choice to sink or swim and then take a QB in the 26 draft if he sinks. I still think he can hit the ceiling of Jalen Hurts if they surround him with a good o line and good receivers.
