Offensive Problem Summed up in One Sentence

No separation and running the wrong route mean exactly the same thing. No completions. Not being open and running the wrong route are the same things. We are’s rowed with both.
 
Well it's 14 games I believe since the team had over 100 yards running and quite a few where we didn't break 50. At least this season we can hope that the youngsters improve and Banner returns, he's gotta be an improvement over chuks. Right? I said Right?

But then they'll probably sit Moore.

The offense hasn't done anything consistently for well over a year and we're seriously shallow in the secondary. We all knew this going into the season, I got my hopes up over a blocked punt and a fine defensive performance last week.
 
Blocking. Scheme. We have enough tools to do the job.

Not much via double TE's. Not much passes to najee. And i agree. Get ball to someone else because DJ and claypool arent making it happen. But with the personnel we have on the o line,, "where do we go,, where do we go now,, where do we go..." GNR

Bring up Rader to help blocking? Havent seen the overload line either.. but yeah might have missed it.

Yeah, but when guys are open, and get their hands on the ball (not by some miraculous means either), and still put the ****** on the ground, how can you really blame anyone else? DJ quits on routes, if he’s not dropping passes. I’m sick of watching this guy smile, and tap himself on the chest after some miscue. Claypool, this kid is way too big for his britches. He seems to think he’s a star already. Sadly, he’s being erased by one player. Never seems like there’s three or four guys on him. But I’ll tell ya what, a guy like Calvin Johnson would still go up and come down with the ball no matter how many were on him. Mapletron? This mother ****** is more like a maple bun, or maple roll because of how soft he is.
 
The biggest problem with the offense is that its one dimensional and there’s no resolve to establish a running game. Before they were even forced to abandon the run, the Steelers were throwing the ball 70% of the time. I think Harris is a phenomenal talent, but right now, he is the cart before the horse.
 
The o line blows! Yea, this new coach is doing so great. He's supposed to be tough. The o line is out of sorts.

Claypool is softer than a marshmallow. He is bigger ***** than Cam Newton.

Tomlin fails at game management again.
 
DJ and Claypool both had big downfield catches for huge gains that led to scores, the problem is Ben isn't hitting them in stride on a consistent basis when they do get separation. On Claypool's contested catch he had to slow down and wait, giving the DB time to adjust and bat the ball away. Maybe Ben hasn't yet adjusted to the new offense and routes but it seems at times he's just throwing up lob balls.

He has the best hands, runs the best routes and is hard to tackle after the catch.

He showed his first two seasons that he can play outside and make plays down field.

I'm not sure if using him exclusively as an inside possession receiver is in the team's best interest, with Claypool and DJ ******** the bed as much as they are.

I think this is 2 fold. First Claypool got off to such a hot start and Tomlin fell in love with his new toy and threw the old one in the recycle bin. Second I think they didnt expect JuJu to be here this year and don't expect him next year so they are trying to prime Claypool for the outside role. The bottom line is i think this team simply does a terrible job at maximizing potential of the players
 
Claypool seems to flop a lot trying to draw PI calls rather than contest the catch.

And then at least you could make a decision based on that going into next off season. Here they are gonna win like 9 or 10 games or maybe a few less depending on health. And then if Rudolph isn't a starter you are looking at 2023 draft at best. A lot of Steelers fans enjoy fools gold facade of contending and the Steelers are more than happy to provide.

I think that's what we need right now some big body or some real speed to back these guys off. And i agree with Punx - they're trying to use Najee but it dont do a damn thing if the D floods the box.

Sadly, we need a Megatron or a Heath to loosen up the middle; or a Santiono to run a post and burn the damn overly aggressive DBs.
 
I'll sum it up....39 yards rushing!!!!!

What the ****???? People are going off on Ben when we got 39 yards rushing? Get the living **** out of here!

You do realize there are lanes Ben throws from. Four or 5 guys are pushing our OL right into him. Almost every play. If Ben puts the ball where it hits the WR in the hands you don't blame Ben if they drop it. You blame the WR. Yet some passes are short or late. Sometimes maybe Ben has to get rid of the ball a bit early.

Oh....did you see the catch down field by Johnson and instead of walking into the EZ he decided to run out of bounds? Ben fault right? Or horrible awareness by Johnson? Hmmm.

Still doesn't matter. He should be good enough to compensate for a college level line. ;)

When McFarland gets back, i would like to see a few screen passes or misdirection delays. Also would like to split him out wide/ get him out in space w/ Najee on the field. A 2-back system might just freeze the LBers for a second before they crash in.

i would also toy with the idea of McCloud on a few plays. I would tell him to focus on slant routes and go routes and maybe give him 3 chances on 2nd downs during the game if this crowding the box continues.

Yep. 14 attempts. 74-26 pass run ratio. And that includes the runs by Claypool and JuJu.
 
Throw the dang ball to a TE over the middle once in a while. Mix up the depth of our plays so they don't just have to cover one part of the field. Seems like everybody long, everybody short, or everybody in a bunch. Small areas crowded with players. Easy to cover.
 
JuJu was an afterthought to defenses his 1st two years when AB demanded double teams. Since then he has proved unable to beat press coverage outside so he is relegated to short dump offs and short routes. Putting him.outside would further shrink the field as defenses could just let him.go one on.one on the outside and use the other defender to stay in.
 
It's not as if Derek Carr had great protection. It was better in the 2nd half after Watt was out and the steeler defense wore down, but it's not like Carr had all day to throw. And the Raiders called plays to backup TEs and to RBs to help Carr get rid of the ball.

The big hope with Canada was that he could actually come up with a gameplan beforehand and then during games, he could adjust quickly. Neither has happened. The Steelers so far are still awful in the first half, meaning the initial gameplan is just plain wrong. Then it takes them forever to figure out what to do.

It always comes back to putting Ben in the shotgun and running a hurry up offense.

I’d like to see a lot more underneath passed to the TE.

****, use JuJu in similar fashion. Ben made it happen with Heath Miller and Jericho Cotchery back in the day.

Those underneath routes are there for those two guys to get some serious yac’s. Plus it would open up the field imo for DJ and Claypool

Running the bunch formation when the Defense has 9-10 men in the box is plain idiotic, you are playing into their strength. Our scheme and game planning seems woefully inept.
