Official Free Agency Thread

That is a league wide issue now. Particularly for first rounders as the new 5th year compensation formula has broken the system. It is much less likely to happen now if you look around the league.
The old system was better, especially for a good drafting team like the Steelers. They got their mid-round guys on the restricted year and signed their own a year early to good contracts. I know why they made the change, but you're right, it's resulted in a ton of roster turnover.

That number is bad but for whatever it is worth his overall grade for pass protection was better.
"Despite allowing consistent pressure, Moore's pass-blocking grade was a stellar 66.2."
Best thing he has done in reality is likely get us a 3rd comp next year.
Despite allowing consistent pressure. Whoever wrote that line never coached football. Despite the fact that doctor Jim Bob loses an extremely high number of patients to preventable deaths he has steller skills.

Stay far far far far far away from Aaron Rodgers. I'm not even looking at the person that he is. Look at the player. We're talking about a player that has seriously declined over the last 3 years. We're talking about a player that is statistically worse than Russell Wilson was. And he's 42 years old, none of it is going to get better. And he is asking for a multi year deal in the neighborhood of 100 million.

I'm running as far away from that disaster possible.

Go trade with the Patriots for Joe Milton and build the team. That way even if he's not the guy, the guy you pick in next years draft has a good supporting cast and can step into a better situation.

Exactly, the league broke "the Steelers way" with the preset 4 yr plus option first round contract abd the 4 year boilerplate lower draft pick contracts... it thwarted the lower cost RFA and prove it bridge deals the Steelers used frequently.

So to date the Steelers two big adds have been:
A trade for DK
Signing Slay

Neither of those two moves should count against the Comp pick equation, neither are CFAs,
But we have lost:
Fields
Daniels
Harris
And Moore... they all will count vs the equation
We are up big in that area... so maybe focus on players cut so we can add some extra picks next year

All of those players were drafted by Colbert. if anything, Khan has had two of the best overall drafts in years. The past two free agency periods have also been very active compared to what we see historically.
A GM builds a team with direction and a plan. We have neither a plan or any certain direction in which we seem to be building our franchise. Just signing big name FAs or trading for them doesn't mean he is doing a good job. Looks good in the headlines though.

Hopefully our front office isn't making their decisions on making our team better off of this concept. If it works out that way....fine. Simply get the best player that fits what you want to do as a team. Regardless if they were cut or FA.

So, we traded for DK and still managed to screw things up and get a D (I'm being generous) on day 1 of free agency as we have no QB. If they sign Rodgers today (especially if they give him $45 million per), day 2 will be an F.

I certainly didn't think we would have screwed things up so bad already. Sign Fields or Wilson a couple weeks ago. Then, they could have looked at DL and CB (no, Slay is not the answer as he is 34) to go along with DK. I am still thinking this gets worse when they trade away GP for nothing.

No top notch CB and a bridge QB. Khan is disaster. He's a superfan with the keys. smfh
Like it or not, the team is very high on Trice. The top CB nonsense was just the media throwing **** at the wall. We are more likely to draft a corner than sign one. Would it have been nice? Sure! Was it likely? Not really... Besides, they aren't looking to replace Porter, they like him at CB1, they need CB2 and there are still plenty of guys available. Donte Jackson was good for us, but he came with injury concerns and showed them during the season.

And it didn't matter what QB was signed, it was only going to be a bridge QB. The options were very limited to begin with. These criticisms are quite hilarious.

First day of the legal tampering period and the complaints are high...

You are assuming that Fields wanted to stay, I think he saw enough and kept his mouth shut and just left without entertaining ANY offer. Now maybe if he got no offers in the first few days, he might feel differently. This is exactly what we saw from Rudolph.

Not assuming he wanted to stay

Assuming the stupidity of how this organization has been run recently

Why? he played well this year. They drafted him in the fourth got a lot out of him for the pick and from what I see we will net a 3rd back for him next year. I don't see the issue.
He was a turnstile liability at LT.
The Steelers used their last two 1sts drafting a replacement, because they knew he was subpar, but then they did not use either 1st to replace him.
Either horrible drafting or bad player management, you pick.
Dan Moore Jr was not good enough to play LT and that has been obvious for 3 seasons.

And he may be moved to RT! That thing they couldn't do for the past 3 seasons because his one leg was shorter! 3 years with Steelers: cannot move him from LT. Day one on new team: why not try it?

For 20M a year I guess he sure could even play long snapper if asked too

We’re down to Wilson and Rodgers. I’ve heard rumors of Wilson possibly to the Titans or Giants.
Wonder what the contract for Rodgers would look
like here?

Elandon Robert’s signs one year deal with Raiders.
Steelers players dropping left and right.
