On Replacing Ben.

While trading Brown would be insane, would his contract even allow it? Just asking, cause I have no idea.

Don't think Laundry is the answer, and Dobbs hasn't been given enough time yet.

No, we'd be ****** with 8 digits of dead money, but hey, what's to stop people from making crazy trade thoughts...

From what I’ve seen of both DeShaun Watson and Carson Wentz, specifically how they make people miss and extend the play, those guys are the closest. However you are 100% correct, there is no and never will be a replacement for 7. I hope there is a plan because if he retires and let’s say 26 splits, we are going to be in for some lean years. We are all spoiled rotten getting to watch Ben play every week for the past 14 years.

Now, this being said, once dickbag and his coach leave the nfl the Pats* will suck *** too, leaving a glimmer of hope for the AFC.

Ben will play out his entire contract and then might even sign another one.

if it was still 1998, i'd agree. as such, i disagree.

Yep.

Before fantasy football became a money maker and prompted rules changes to favor scoring,

The question is can we find a player that has the physical tools and coach him up and groom him for the job while we still have Ben? I know that ain't Landry and after watching Dobbs at Tennessee I have serious doubts,

The funny thing with me is....I think Landry can run the offense with its current personnel good enough to at least keep us relevant ...maybe not lwoB repuS relevant..but compete for a playoff spot relevant, until the next "great one"comes along, whenever that happens..

That is basically the worst outcome. Have a QB just good enough to win 9 games per year, keep the Steelers drafting at 22 or somewhere near there. Steelers drafted Bradshaw 1-1, and Roethlisberger 1-11.

There are your 6 SB's. Get an elite QB if you want to be a championship team.

Continual 8 win seasons are a death sentence for teams. You have to give up too much to move up in the draft and then you end up with depth issues.

Even without ever having a losing season in 10 years, we are loaded with talent. I do agree it is much tougher to get Franchise QB at those draft slots, but if we get a situation where someone wants our Bell and gives us 2 first rounders, you pair 3 Rd 1 picks to fly up into the top 10 and get your guy. That is good draft strategy.

Just curious if anyone thinks there will be a bottom third first round QB that will be worth taking a look at in upcomming Bowl games.

Riley Ferguson, to me, plays a lot like Ben does. He's got some mobility and a strong arm.

I believe, though, looking at the roster and seeing the age of our team, we're likely going to grab some FA to come in for a year or three after Ben retires.

Yes because they did a nice job of drafting this current roster. One QB out I wouldn't see them in a rebuilding mode.

I think mayfield will be good. I am not really sold on darnold or rossen or even allen. Drafting a QB is a total crap shoot. I would not touch jackson with a 10ft pole. He is a great athlete, but don't see him being an NFL QB.

If we pick Lamar Jackson, I would be pissed. I don't knw what people see in this kid that make them think he will be anything special in the NFL. I like Jason Allen and Mason Rudolph in this draft. To me, Josh Allen looks the most like Ben, as he can use his legs to extend plays, and is pretty used to a not so great OL.

Completion percentage is a pretty big concern with Allen:

The Josh Allen lovers can love but fact is no QB in last 12-14 years with completion % as low as Allen has had success in NFL. Most end up as very average backups or outright busts. Can’t argue w/facts

No way on Jackson, and Darnold has looked awful in every game I've seen him play. Maybe Mayfield in the first round, but to me, there is a lot more value at QB in later rounds.

It took 22 years to "replace" Bradshaw. 13 different QB's started between Brad's last start and Ben's first. Montana-Young, Favre-Rodgers, Manning-Luck are the exceptions, not the norm. I've been saying this for about 10 years now, since the dump Ben crowd became loud, enjoy what we have cause it might be awhile until we see another great one in Pittsburgh.

Brister, O'Donell, Stewart, Maddox. These were the guys that gave us our best false hope. I just pray it doesn't take 22 years this time. One thing for certain, it does help weed out the fair weather fans and the bandwagon riders!

You don't replace Ben.

I bring this up because some folks started discussing possible Tombert moves in the near future to bring in a QB to transition in the next year to two to life beyond Ben and there was talk of whether or not there was faith that Tomlin could find and or groom somebody to replace Ben.

I repeat. You don't replace Ben.

He's a Hall of Fame QB, one of the best to ever play the game. Pittsburgh will much more likely get a guy like Trent Dilfer, or Landry Jones, or Tom Savage. We fans are NOT going to see a smooth transition to a superb QB who can control the offense and move the ball up and down the field with joyful regularity.

It always surprises me how many of you fail to realize that Roethlisberger is among the top 10 in most categories ALL TIME. We're talking Johnny Unitas, Otto Graham, Terry Bradshaw, Dan Marino, John Elway, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, and even Cheater Boy... Roethlisberger is better or as good than most of them in most of the major QB categories.

But replace Roethlisberger? That's just not going to happen.

I don't know, the Packers replaced Favre with Rodgers so it is not out of the realms of possibility. Just saying.....

Who ever said dump Ben??? I remember saying he can play better needs to play better.. Ben has been light years better then he was since the beginning of the year. Saying he can play better isnt saying dump him

I'd like to see AJ McCarron in the B&G.
I'm not sure the Steelers guy is in the draft this year.
Ben still has some left in the tank. I do believe he's done if they win it all though

I agree on AJ, but I think the only way #7 stays another year is if we do win it all. no way I see him walk away from the chance to get #4 especially if we come back pretty intact next year.

Man I can still remember my house when we heard Ben's name called on draft day. we lived in the country and people in the city heard us. I keep telling my son how lucky both of us are, I got to see two HOF QB's playing for my beloved steelers, and Michael got to see Ben for his entire career. It has truly been a blessing to have been able to watch Big Ben lead this team for so long.

The Eagles were 7-9 (not 8-8, but close) in 2015. All they needed was help from the inept front office of the Browns, whom they fleeced in the 2016 draft to acquire Carson Wentz.

Wentz is Ben 2.0 in my opinion. Eerily similar.
