I'm hoping for Rodgers over Darnold. Rodgers played last year only a year removed form the serious Achilles injury, and two years from his las MVP award. I suspect, provided he has a decent line, he will be back to his normal level of play next season, and would be an upgrade over our QBs last year. The Steelers have enough weapons now with DK to be good and Rodgers might have enough clout to tell Tomlin no whenever Cool Shades sends in a stupid play and will run something that will work instead (about every down).
Losing the 2nd round pick hurts the team's flexibility to grab a QB earlier than later in the draft. Now, they will have to use their first pick on a QB if they want someone like Dart. Otherwise, give Fields, if you believe he can develop (I have my reservations there), a long-term contract. However, I don't know if you bring in someone like DK with Fields as your QB. It seems like a waste of resources and money since Fields will not be allowed to throw the ball enough to make both DK and Pickens happy. Not to mention everyone else.
Darnold had a really good year last year, but he also played on a super bowl caliber team with a great offense and offensive coaches. Even after his success, the team seems willing to let him walk even while knowing their heir at the QB spot is coming off a season ending injury with no NFL game experience. Darnold has shown during his career with the Jets and Panthers that he's not an NFL starting QB with sub-par players around him and with coaches that do not know how to run an offense. Do people really think Darnold is the answer at QB in the Burg with the current coaching staff?
I read that Ben is considering a comeback. I'm assuming that was in jest unless his noodle arm, the last couple of years he played, has found a way to regenerate and he can throw again. Maybe it's because he won't have to throw much knowing Tomlin only has one or two non-running plays that he allows the offense to run and they are both the deep ball down the sideline on 4th and 1. I'm being a little harsh I guess since he does occasionally allow that deep ball down the middle, but only to receivers 5'9 and shorter. Maybe Ben can manage 6-7 deep balls a game. DK and Pickens are not AB in his prime, but can still catch an occasional deep ball from Ben.
