Monday is impressive.

I took a look at his game log.

This kid has a huge leg! 19 of his punts went beyond 50 yards for the season. He's never had a punt blocked either.

As a passer, Monday was 4 out of 5 for 41 yards. In addition, he can be a surprise runner as he ran it 2 times for 7 yards. This to me shows he can be an x-factor on 4th down plays. A punter who can kick us out of trouble, or make a surprise conversation on 4th and short.

12/02/2015 - P Will Monday, Sr.-R, Duke, 39/150 Votes...Monday, a 6-4, 210-pound native of Flowery Branch, Ga., has punted 60 times for 2,616 yards and 43.60 yards per kick average while downing 29 boots inside the opponent 20-yard line. In addition, he has compiled a league-high 19 punts of 50-plus yards. This marks Monday's fourth consecutive All-ACC honor as he was a first-team choice in 2012 and a third team selection in both 2013 and 2014. - Duke Football

Today is the Rookie mini-camp coach. That's NFL-level football. As LeXX has precautioned, let's see if he makes the team and how he executes on this level BEFORE we promote him to "Mr. Big Leg"...m'kay???

And he has how many kicks at the NFL level? Even kicks in practice?
I will reserve judgement till camp

Punting is punting regardless of the competition in many cases. We can see the distance, the hang time, etc... To be truthful, the long snapping is better in the NFL which makes it easier on a punter.

We'll see in camp. I just like the free agent pick up

Unless the gravity in Pittsburgh or football field dimensions changes, I think he will do fine. Berry shrunk as the season went on. But I'll give you full credit on Mr. Big Leg, deal?

Just do me a quick favor and watch this punt.

Also with the narrower hash marks in the NFL his directional punting should be even better helping him.inside the 20s.

As the season goes on in Pittsburgh, the temperature drops and the ball becomes harder, making it harder to kick it further.

STFU and let Coach annoint the next Ray Guy.

Dri can do that...

Wasn't that near his career in rush???

I'll take the wait and see approach but am hoping this punter is an upgrade !!!

Salute the nationh

I'm impressed with the kick Coach. I'm interested in seeing him compete. I'm more interested to see how well he can do pinning inside the 20. This is something the Aussies excel at. This is a percentage. I think Barry only had one Touchback last year.

I also want to see how he does with NFL talent rushing at him. He's promising, but I'm not as down on Barry as you are. I've seen him get through his rookie year, he has good skills and room to improve. Most new NFL players have their biggest jump in production between years 1 and 2. This year's Barry will be better than last year's, and that is who this new punter will be competing against.

Berry averaged 42.6 with 28 inside the 20. Also had a 79 yarder. He was a rookie and did have some problems in the wind at Denver. I think there are some real differences between college and pro-that's why you have camps.

Which is why a big leg is needed in Pittsburgh. Monday has it. Good point.

I love this time of year when the difference between training camp fodder and future HOF player is sooo razor thin.

I hope the kid is the best punter ever, more likely he is a guy...a guy who has an outside chance of making our roster, may the best punter win.

Now enough punter talk already

Monday's average in college was 46.46 yards per punt. That is impressive.

Lettered four seasons (2012-13-14-15) ... honorable mention All-America selection by Sports Illustrated in 2014 ... four-time All-ACC selection (1st team in 2012; 2nd team in 2013; 3rd team in 2014; 3rd team in 2015) … four-time Academic All-ACC selection (2012-13-14-15)… in 53 games (53 starts), punted 260 times for 11,299 yards and a 46.46 yards per punt average ... downed 88 punts inside the opponent 20-yard line against 33 touchbacks ... completed four-of-five (.800) passing attempts for 41 yards … ended career with highest punting average in Duke history

With that pedigree, we should have traded up in the 4th for him! Can he tackle?

Berry had 28 inside the 20 with only 2 touchbacks. That's LOADS better than Monday who had 88 inside the 20 with 33 touchbacks. In college, he only played two years, and had 47 inside the 20 and only 7 touchbacks. Punting isn't always about the distance. And unless Monday can control his punts, and place them inside the 20 with more regularity, he's not going to beat out Berry.

What exactly is different about kicking at the NFL level? Come on, if you can kick, you can kick

it would be difficult for the new guy to NOT be an improvement

Nice to see some good competition in camp to push Berry. I'll watch with great interest when we see Monday actually punting under pressure.
