Paul Zeise: Steelers' standard under Mike Tomlin has been lowered

Doesn't believe in teaching players to improve. Doesn't think the game plan matters. Doesn't call the defense or offense..........🙄🙄🙄
I just don't know if I believe he said that. If he did, he's an idiot and should have been fired on the spot.

Hey, I want Tomlin to be gone as much as anyone, but I just can't believe any coach would say something like that.

McDermott has two good coordinators who are both getting head coaching interview this week. I still can't get over Tomlin took the ball first after winning the toss when we haven't been productive in the first half all season. Hard to expect the team to make adjustments when we can't even get the coin toss correct.
That one decision may have been a critical part of the complete disaster that was the playoff game.

If they go in to halftime down 14, (21-7) but are getting the ball to start the 2nd half, there's still room for hope and energy and inspiration.
When you go into the locker room down 21-7, then come out and find yourself immediately down 28-7, your team is mailing it in from that point on. I don't care who you are. They were beat after the 1st drive of the 2nd half.

He did. He said that if players don't know their positions by the time they get to that level, it's not his job to teach them.

And if the Offense can sustain one drive in that first half, then it is highly likely that the Steelers are down max 7 going into halftime. So many fundamental coaching mistakes, constantly repeated.

Wow. I never heard that. How the hell did he expect Green to improve at center if they don't believe in teaching him? He only played 4 damn games there in college!

Keep in mind, Tomlin wasn't hired because he had a resume that showed he was capable of building successful teams.

Or that he had in depth knowledge of pro level technique. William and Mary wr. Worked himself up as a db coach and one year defensive coordinator. His knowledge difficulties could easily be hidden by charisma and people skills. I don't think he is capable of teaching someone their position. How often has a player really went beyond their draft pedigree with him.

I never really liked the adjustments argument. We have no damn clue what goes on in the locker room. C'mon, we have all played sports at some level or another. We all know that when a team plays better, a lot of times it is just that, they play better.
True, Diver. But the fact is, at every level you will ALWAYS have guys on the other side who are simply better than you. That doesn't mean you have no prayer in hell of beating them. I mean, why even bother to put a tackle on T.J. Watt? Watt's better. What's the point?

A coach will recognize where his players have strengths and weaknesses and exploit the strengths while helping out with the weaknesses. Put a TE or a RB in to chip Watt. Bump the **** out of Tyreek Hill at the line and hand him off to another DB.

I mean, if there's no point in coaching and making adjustments, why have coaches at all?

And to the point of the game plan is irrelevant we didn't execute. To me the game plan had to revolve around hammering the run. And they were in multiple situations where they could have ran on third down and chose low percentage deep throws and dropped possession down balls. I'm sorry that is ****** game plan.

******* money observation!!!!

Here was the message that our "coach" delivered to the team right before the game yesterday. How can we lose with this type of inspiration?

Steelers' Mike Tomlin reveals final message to team: 'If you’re a blinker, cut your eyelids off'

Not only is this a stupid ****** trash statement he said it multiple times in the past. Maybe he could have said like cut your lips off or something. Or in the case of Devin Bush. Get the sand out of your ****.

"Hungry is a word that I've been analyzing here of late. It's not hunger that drives me, it's not hunger that needs to drive our football team. Hunger and thirst are things that can be quenched. We have to be a driven group, we have to seek greatness."

"Seek greatness". Says the guy who hasn't won a playoff game in how many years?

for the third time

since you seem to have a strong opinion of "why" Tomlin was hired

Why won't you spell it out here for the folks? and do you care to tell them how many times you have been banned previously?

Basically he's ******* worthless. Doesn't bring a thing to the team that makes it better. Nothing at all. Just a little rah rah with the boys. What a great gig. I'd never leave either.

If anything he ***** **** up when he touches it.

Well, serious question: "why" do you personally think that Tomlin was hired? You seem to be strongly opposed to there being a specific reason that he was hired, so could you cite his specific accomplishment(s) during his very brief tenure as a DC which demonstrated that he was ready and capable of coaching such a highly accomplished franchise? Which other franchises were making a play to land Tomlin that year? People typically have resumes highlighting their credentials and accomplishments which support them landing a job. What specific accomplishments warranted Tomlin getting this opportunity? Furthermore, why is he allowed to continue despite not having a proven track record of favorable results? Assuming of course favorable results still includes making it to the playoffs and winning on occasion.

Talk is cheap. The actions over a very long period of time speak for themselves. The results are pretty clear.

And it has happened over and over and over again.

“Excuses are tools of the incompetent”
-- Mike Tomlin

^ Says the guy who says adjustments aren't necessary. Just better execution .. Wow.

This is why they collapse every year. Teams get plenty of film and they know the Steelers don't change jack ****. Easy game plan. That's a great reason the pats*** stomped them over and over again. Not only is the HC gathering tons of Intel on you in dubious ways, but he actually game plans you and nothing is ever set in stone.

This team needs coaches, teachers and tactical brilliance. They haven't had that in many years. Just a bunch of bs coach speak of him trying to sound like he knows what he's doing.

I could at least respect someone who makes himself accountable for results.

so while you want to keep posting that he was basically hired for one reason and still here for just one reason, but you won't post what that reason is

not surprising at all

hmmm what other poster has been on here throwing personal insults at Tomlin and hating on everything about the man? hmmm who could it be

I think it came down to Tomlin and Whiz. I think it's fair to say they made the right decision though Whiz was certainly more accomplished and unlike now they seemed to have a problem with in house. That shouldn't give Tomlin a lifetime appointment. Anyone thinking he should still be in charge of this team after all this in my opinion has rocks in his head.
