Paul Zeise: Steelers' standard under Mike Tomlin has been lowered

You have to give some of the blame to Colbert too. As much as I love Muuuuth, being a PSU fan as well, we really needed to draft an OL with the 2nd pick. The Steelers have one of the worst running games in the NFL, Pouncey and Decastro are now gone and you draft a TE? REALLY????

But hey, let’s get a future HOF Centers replacement in the 3rd round, under sized and didn’t play Center all that much. SMFH

Colbert is like that chick who hooks up with the gangster hoping to change him and then it all fails and now he/she is stuck with the consequences.

In our case we’re stuck with an undersized, slow center, unless something changes where he gets coached to his strengths

Agt best said center should be back up depth for G / C.

WE Need serious investment in OL this draft / FA period. We need two high start-able OL whether draft or FA.

Salute the nation

Geezus .. what a blessing this would be.

That would be an ultimate "*****" move. Leaving immediately would essentially write in stone that even HE knows he's completely ****** without Ben.

I just want to know what everyone wants Tomlin to say? Again, this is not a defense of him, but I go into it knowing that a coach is going to give very limited, general information. They aren't going to tell you the intimate details of what is going on with any aspect of the team. Frankly, I don't listen to a damn thing he says other than injury updates. I didn't with Cowher, either.

Yeah, I agree with this. Plus, I think we all…when speaking off the cuff say things to reinforce our ‘intended’ message and in the moment, overlook the ‘unintended’ message those words might create.

My only argument to that would be that it seems MT practices what he is preaching here. Game planning just doesn’t seem to be somthing he does. Oh…I’m sure by many’s definition he does. Not mine.

You know it's bad when- The Ravens, the Bengals and the Browns have all had playoff wins since our last playoff win.

Team never gets to another SB with Shades as HC and may never win another playoff game.

That's a good point. Cheerleader T should stay with the Steelers at least one more season that way not only can every fan be absolutely certain that he sucks balls without a HOF QB, they can be absolutely certain that he sucks balls without a HOF QB times infinity.

And then force him to start and leave him in there longer ...way longer than they should have. It is one thing to mess up an approach like Tombert did in the off-season. It is another to feed that approach and let it dangle on the titty way past the proper feeding. Fans seem to hover around Tomlin's coaching, but his decisions and Colbert's decisions are handcuffing the team's progress. It looks like thru his coachspeak they are already getting a jump on next season. Now to be fair I need to let it play out. But **** there was so many bad decisions it isn't hard to think with those two still in place there will be plenty more. You can not keep Canada and simply go with scrub QBs. You can not treat free agency like roster fillers. You have to actually upgrade C and RT and RG and one of the Dline positions. Resign Witherspoon to stop the bleeding and bring in an Haden upgrade. Either bring back Edmunds or upgrade the position. A QB has to be a upgrade over Rudy. This is the minimal approach. If you are not aggressively attacking these deficiencies you are not upgrading talent to give yourself a fighting chance to be something other than mediocre. With the money they have available and their ability to tweak the cap there is no excuses. How long it took the club to even tweak their line deficiencies in season is just as worrisome. Just decisionally from point A to B substandard.

And these coordinators...you have ex head coaches fired that were great OCs. Had a solid track record that got them their head coaching job. Bring them fricken in and stop bottom feeding the coaching tree. You know they will want to make solid decisions to run their side of the ball. Let them. **** the coaching is no different than the roster talent. If you aren't cutting the head of the snake off you better be upgrading around them. Please Rooney do us a favor and buy a clue.

Tomlin needs to get over his ego. Let the coordinators do the scheming. If he’s choosing players that are undersized etc. Coach them up, put them in positions to succeed. It seems his approach is setting these guys up to be failures. On and off the field. The team lacks discipline between the whistles, immature etc.

It’s not a good look for the organization but who am I to judge. It’s Arts team, it’s Tomlin’s team. If that’s the culture they like around. That’s what the Steelers are.

The team has way too many issues. From culture to coaching

I have a theory on all this. It says - most guys in the nfl today can improve some, and the right coaching will do that for them.

Maybe we need a coaching staff that gets the best out of the players.
I agree.

Ben was great in his own right, but maybe with the right head coach, he could have improved to (somewhere near) Brady's level. Someone who might have motivated him to work a little harder at his craft, and lit a fire under Ben, after much of that early playoff success went away.

We'll never know.
