Penguins 23-24

Good Trade ...all things considered.

I think Jake will become somewhat irrelevant going forward in the league.
He was just one in the long line of Crosby benefactors IMHO.

He will make noise, but not be the Jake we knew here. That is why I didn't want to put large dollars out to keep him. It would have set us back further.

I hope that isn't the last of the trades. I can think of 7 or 8 guys that should have been traded long before Jake Guentzel.

I don't know man. Sure, any player benefits from playing with Crosby, but there have been stretches where Guentzel was the only guy scoring. My only knock on the guy is that in the playoffs he gets the hell beat out of him because of his size. I think he will be a good player wherever he goes, whether he stays in Carolina or goes somewhere else after the season.

Per TSN, the Canes also picked up Kuznetsov from the Caps. Gonna be a tough out come playoff time.

Chad Ruhwedl to the Rags for a 2027 4th per yahoo sports.

Well---this didnt work out so good!

Trade was garbage, especially the conditional nature of the first-round pick. So the very best the Penguins can hope for is the #31 pick, and it most likely will be somewhere in the high 40s or even 50s. They should have just got some marginal playoff team's first round choice, and ended up somewhere between 16 and 24. None of the rest of this prospect "haul" were even in the top five of the Hurricanes' system, and Bunting (who was a -15 on a good team with a +32 goal differential this season) is an overpaid third-line buddy of the Pens' GM.

Great.

I dont know...will see..

My take is that most Pens fans overvalued Jake's expected return.

The most disappointing part of this trade deadline is the people that didn’t get traded.

Guentzel was the #1 trade target in the NHL, reportedly coveted by at least five teams. I'd have expected more than a conditional late second round pick and a bunch of non-difference makers. At least wait until closer to the deadline to pull the trigger, and see what the other organizations might be willing to part with by then.

It's strange how I'm looking at the schedule now and trying to figure how much they'll lose by.

Today the Bruins, tomorrow the Oilers.
I figure they'll give up 5-7 goals each game.

Both games will be super ugly. I might just follow the updates.

That chick commentator in the red blouse, looks like my ex wife.

..down3-0 after second period. They've got a nice two game streak going getting outscored 9-0 so far.

I turned it off at 3-0 and took a nap. Woke up to see it was a 5-1 final. Better than I expected.

It's about what I expected

Jake will have a good career.
Dubas had to move Jake. This trade wasn’t a move for now, this a future asset move.

Imo the rebuild is now.

Yes totally expected here too. Went doing family things today instead and recorded it but by the sounds of it there isn't much to watch aside of Bruins highlights.

I believe the dark years we all dreaded are upon us.

I hope they keep Sid.

Sid will retire a Pen. Unless he wanted to leave, he gets to go out on his own terms like Ben did.

Rumor is that he told them that he was willing to be traded to three teams if they want to move him on. He has also recently said that he wants to retire a Penguin.

I hope they keep Sid.
Sid will be part of the rebuild.
I think Dubas is trying to shed as much of Hextall’s and Rutherford’s mess while trying to see the core 3 out on their terms.

I was reading the Pens should have $12 million in cap space next season. Best move would be to not renew guys like Carter who’s salary is eating two roster spots.

The Pens cannot really call up their AHL guys because of salary cap issues at the moment.

Bunting looked decent in his first start today.
Also did a bit of reading on the other trade guys. They seem to be some ppg guys in their respective leagues at the moment.

That makes me feel a whole lot better knowing the cap space. I'll be super pissed if they trade off Crosby. He has the opportunity that very few in the NHL get and that's to play your entire career with one team.

I'd like to see him end his career with one more championship in Pittsburgh. That looks like a really long shot at the moment, but who knows in the next two years.

I disagree. You aren’t rebuilding if you are hanging on to guys like Malkin, Letang, Karlsson and Carter and Trading guys like Guentzel. What they’re doing is hanging on to the delusion that “the big 3” have another run in them. They don’t.
