Pens Hockey 2021?

He’ll retire a Pen. I don’t think he’ll play somewhere else. It’s time to cut ties with Malkin and Letang. Maybe all 3 decide to walk away together
If he retires a Pen, we'll never see the Cup again. Its not a hit on the guy, he's awesome but one guy can't support the whole team.

Pens are in the same boat as the kings and blackhawks.

Gotta pass the torch

Sitting here watching Letang in his PC. What a fn idiot...I can't tell you how much I want to see him just go away.

I didn’t say he needs to support the whole team. Out of the three core guys, he still brings better playmaking.

I think cause of the way he is. He’ll retire sooner or later as a Pen. These guys have been through a lot as a core group. When it happens it happens.

We’ll see. I’ll be cheering on the next group of guys even if we become mediocre

I think he’s retiring this offseason. Just my opinion. I want him gone too

Anywho. Do or die on Wednesday.
I’m booking it as season over. Will tune in though

I have the feeling Geno calls it a career, too

I agree but if the guy can jump start the team to the next legitimate run, why not make the deal?

I guess you didn't live through the Bobby Bonilla, Barry Bonds, Andy Van Slyke, Doug Drabek days. All that talent and they all walked with nothing in return. Granted in Sids case he'd just retire if a deal wasn't made but if you want to rebuild you have to give something to get something. Hopefully the Pens won't languish in fn mediocrity to outright crap play for 30+ fn years but time will tell.

I know this is fresh off of a BAD loss but the Pens are ran MUCH better than the Pirates. They will have some lean years after Crosby and Malkin are gone but it won't be decades of mediocrity.

I agree with JRGM. These guys deserve to go out on their own terms. You can ***** and whine about it but they earned that right. Mario knows it's time to start looking forward but I doubt he forces anyone out the door hastily. This team isn't good enough anymore to play Sullivan's style of hockey and unless they plan on going all in on that......it's time to embrace some change and get tougher. You know Burke and Hextall will be all for that. I'd like to see them tweak this team some this offseason and run it back before you sell it off for parts.

No. But I lived through the 90’s/2000’s Pens/Steelers.

The Pens will be ok. Hockey is a trend sport. It doesn’t take long for a team to turn the corner. The Penguins training facilities should attract big FA’s in the future.

Wow, the Penguins completely outplayed the Islanders for 80 minutes tonight (except for the goaltending, of course), and all of you are ready to write off the season? It's a best-of-seven series, not a best-of-five, people.

My thoughts exactly

The Pens are a good team. They just don’t have that “oomph”.

which is ok. I have no control over the outcome, they win. I get to watch my boys play another day and come on here and celebrate, *****, analyze and speculate with you all. If they lose, so be it. We’ll all be here together to speculate and share our opinions. Been a fun season as always with you guys

We're done. The Pens D is that bad. The Pens spend the whole ******* period peppering their goalie with shots, the Isles get a shot on goal,,,score...I've seen this ***** before and it goes back to the Mario/Jagr days...

Plus the Pens offense lacks a presence in front of the net and for some reason can't win faceoffs consistently. Why is that?

Exactly. Let's see what fight they have left in them. While I personally don't think this team can go all the way this year, I give them credit for bouncing back and having a nice season. Win or lose the rest of this series it's not a wasted year. This is such a spoiled fanbase. This has been the premier hockey franchise for the last 30 years. Unbelievable consistency. Same with the Steelers. I'm still salty about how JRGM was dogged out by the fans earlier in the season only to see his moves pay off without too much credit thrown his way. It's ok to just be grateful for the awesome hockey you've been able to see instead of kicking people on the way out or on the way down.

Long live mediocrity. You're living in the golden age of it. Lap it up

How in the hell is 15+ years of playoffs and 3 Stanley Cups mediocrity. How is 17 straight non losing Steelers seasons and 2 Super Bowl victories mediocrity. Look around sports man. This is as good as it gets. These guys lay it out and I honestly feel bad for them more than anything versus complaining like an *******. I'm glad I got to see the mountaintop a few times. You can't win every year. You take the good with the bad. This has been almost 2 decades of good. These franchises are ran incredibly well. I think it's safe to say they know what they're doing. If these guys were going out never having won a championship then I would understand the bitching......but I honestly just don't get it. Even if they have few rough years rebuilding after you let these guys ride out......it was more than worth it.

Glad I went to bed and hated being right on the outcome.

This team plays well in the regular season, gets to the playoffs and underperforms again. I don't get it. Crosby isn't going anywhere he is still one of the best in the league. Should have traded Malkin a year or two or three ago when we could have gotten something significant for him. Doubt we can get much for him nowadays. Giving up cheap and easy goals is not good goaltending even if you play lights out on the difficult shots. Honestly, should have never gotten rid of Fleury. Dude is still one of the very best and an easy pick for the HOF. Not sure what they do from here. They have a few good young players but no one to build a team around. They won't get another top pick until they really suck one year so this and worse if going to be the norm for a while.

It was kinda noticeable even winning the division. We all know the Pens lack a bruiser who can play.

They had chances to win last night. Sorokin just held it down.

Jarry ****** up big in 2OT.
That’s twice he’s cost a game trying to make a play out of net.

The Pens need to evaluate their strategy. They cannot be a pure speed team. They have players who can be great at a puck possession game.

That said. They need a physical winger and even a physical D man.

I think the Pens will be fine in the long haul. The all time great one Conner McDavid got swept last night. Put careers in perspective

Its been a great run and I've enjoyed it but I'm not referring to the past. I'm looking at the future and how to make the team competitive going forward with the assets remaining.

I disagree. This team is plenty good enough to play Sullivan's style of hockey. Problem is, Sullivan's style of hockey is becoming a bygone era, especially in the playoffs. Teams that are winning are big, fast, skilled and physical. Sully's teams are sorta fast and mostly skilled, certainly not big or physical. The Islanders are beating the Pens up, and while the Pens seem to hold up for a while in each game, eventually they break. They need to be able to give it back. I'm not talking about a bunch of goons, but they need a couple Tom Wilson types. Yeah, Wilson is an ******* that has a need to play dirty for whatever reason, but when he decides to play the game, he's a good player.
