I don't agree there. As much as I can't stand Ovechkin, neither he nor Malkin or any other Russian player in the NHL have anything to do with respect to the mad man Putin's decision. Sports are usually one of the only things that usually supersedes the idiocy of nations... The NFL not withstanding...

They don’t have influence over what russia is doing. But that shows how easily masses of people are quick to judge.

I get what you and JMM are saying. I just think that a stronger world wide voice objection would help things.

I think it would be a different story if they were state sponsored but they are as close as it gets to being American citizens. I remember heading home from a Pens/Caps game and seeing Ovechkin passing by. Dude was drinking a tall Bud Light and toasted the big van/small bus my wife and I were riding in, along with a bunch of Caps fans. They were raising so much hell by banging on the windows, Ove actually toasted us as he passed by.

If there is anyone who can say that what the Russians are doing is bullshit, is totally wrong, and can change public opinion, it's them....

Ovechkin is in a position to say something but the russian government is known for killing those who speak out. You cannot expect a hockey player to say much while his family is in Russia.


However I can see russian players being targets from here on out. More so to get under their skin and draw penalties
