Pirates 2017 thread

It's time to move on from McCutchen.
The team seems to go when he does. But he's struggling. I like the guy too. The Pirates need a new start

For all the adversity this team has faced with injuries and the unusual losses of Kang, Marte and Taillon, they are hanging in there.
Taillon is throwing again and Glasnow is coming around. This still could be an interesting year.

I like your optimism. I haven't been feeling it with the Pirates. Always support them win or lose. Still a ton of baseball too. But just bad.
I usually get into panic mode after the all star game. So still plenty of time to improve

Hate to see him go, but would love to see him have the opportunity to win a ring.

Nice comeback. Need to close it out.

Good!

Way to go. Hopefully this comeback sparks more wins

Hurdle choosing to use Rivero in the eighth inning last night, as opposed to the ninth, was one of most inexplicable things I've ever seen a manager do. I just want to punch Hurdle in the face. It pisses me off that much.

The season is pretty much done. It remains a very winnable division, but those two blown ninth inning leads against the Orioles and the one last night against the Cubs have probably sunk them.

How many games have they blown because of how he's handled the closer situation this year?

I'm not sure how many are directly attributable to Hurdle, but when you blow a 2 run 9th inning lead and a 4 run 9th inning lead in consecutive nights, as they did in Baltimore, the manager probably should take some blame.

Friday night, however, was all on him. At least he remembered who his closer was last night.

Those are games a team just cannot afford to lose, especially playing in a weak division that can be had.

Blowing those three games is the difference between being 34-34 and 2 GB and currently being 31-37 and 5 GB.

I'm also talking about sticking with Watson for too long when many were calling for a change a long time ago.

Anybody else notice that McCutchen's play declined about the same time he cut his hair?

Cutch is heating up. He's not done yet. Pretty damn hot the last 30 days/games .... Up to .268 overall ave with 14 HRs

I think it's time for Hurdle to move on with his life's work. He has cost this time a number of games this year ... still they are only 6 games back, no thanks to CH. His 3 yr.+ streak has played out, much like Disco Dan and the Pens. Time to find another manager that can actually manage and not get by on the talent of the team alone.

Marte comes back, and heaven forbid, they pick up a decent rental after the All Star break (like Byrd a few years ago) , they could be more interesting that i ever thought they would be. Nutting probably needs to buy a new snow blower or something for 7 Springs - can't spend any money on a ball player or 2 to help the team.

I don't see them needing a position player rental, but rather a replacement for Kuhl.

If we would be sellers, I think we could get a pretty good haul for Cole.

IMO, Cole is one of the top five most talented starting pitchers in baseball, but he really has not performed anything close to it for about two years now.

He flashes brilliance, but there have been way too many terrible starts like the one last night for a pitcher of his ability.

His trade value is really hard to gauge at the moment. Teams will want him, no doubt, but he's currently carrying a 4.5 ERA with a maturing contract situation as a Scott Boras client.

Pirates fans will most likely be disappointed by what the Pirates ultimately get for Cole, but they have to move him at some point. There's no way they can afford to re-sign him,

Seems to me like Hurdle is trying to get fired. Can you blame him? You can only do so much with what you have to work with. Thing is, this front office is so dysfunctional, they won't fire him either.

Anybody see the game last night?

Osuna with 3 outfield assists!!

Kid has a very accurate and strong arm!

Reminded me of Bobby Clemente......almost.

Hey - I watched a Pirates game!

So the juicer is coming back?

13-2
Over the cubbies right now.
Bottom of the 6th.
Need more games like this

10-0 in the first inning. All I needed to hear. They must have eaten their Wheaties this morning. They needed a big win before the break. Now, if they take that momentum into the send half of the season.

Who were those guys at Wrigley today who were impersonating the Pirates?

The Pirates are better than they have played. It could be a very interesting second half.
