Pirates 2017 thread

The Pirates are better than they have played. It could be a very interesting second half.

if they are buyers and not sellers. Plus, they get Marte back. I'd go through the Blue Jays closet to see who they can acquire from them since they are out of it.

Wouldn't surprise me if Pirates are neither buyers nor sellers. Pretty much sitting still.
Trading Cole or McCutchen could be done in offseason. Not sure you can improve much on
Freese and Harrison sharing 3rd base and Frazier/Harrison sharing 2nd. Kuhl has pitched better lately
and Williams has been steady. If they do anything, another reliever would be nice, but everyone is
looking for the same thing.

I actually think in offseason they might extend McCutchen and trade Polonco or Marte for a starting pitcher.
There are a lot of intangible values to Pirates in having Cutch a Pirate lifer.

It wouldn't surprise me if the go on a run to get close enough to have a chance at the division and screw up their opportunity to get a haul for Cole and Cutch. Let's face it...this team doesn't have a shot at beating the Dodgers or Nats or Cubs in the playoffs.

Now please...prove me wrong!

Yay, more prospects!

Personally...I believe if they acquire a legit 3rd baseman that can drive the ball consistently, and a solid experienced 4th starter...they can make this thing interesting.

Good win last night BTW..

they certainly could use a bat and arm. Why was Kuhl ever waved home? One of the most asinine plays I've seen in a long time. Their 3rd base coach needs a timeout.

A very solid move would be to go get Happ back from Toronto. They are out of it. You would have to pay a decent salary for 2018 for him,
but you would have a solid rotation for a year and a half with Cole, Taillon, Nova, Happ, etc... Moving Kuhl to bullpen could be a plus as well.
If he only has to throw 1 inning, he could be hitting close to 100 on fastball.

Would be a solid trade, if it would happen. Do you want to hold your breath or should I? I think they will wait and see how this series pans out before making any type of buying or selling.

They did a nice job acquiring a couple of pieces last year at the deadline. The pure salary dump was annoying, but bringing in Nova and Rivero turned out to be very good moves. My frustration with the team isn't so much the in-season moves but rather their failure to do anything during the offseason to add talent to the roster.

Another solid win against the division leader last night..

A sweep here would be just what the doctor ordered..

Loved seeing the Brewers getting frustrated as the game wore on last night..

We got them "thinking" and our Skipper has his men "believing"!

The White Sox have now unloaded Todd Frazier to the Yankees. Second big trade they have made in a week. A little dumbfounded that they are at the bottom of their division with Frazier and Quintana on the roster. Frazier would have looked great on the corner and at the plate in B&G.

If the Pirates can take at least 1 more, it could really change the central by the end of July. Brewers finish the month with
series against Cubs and Nationals.

Tyler Clippard was just traded to White Sox. Probably could be had for a mid-level prospect. He isn't having a great year, but he would
be a good candidate for a Searage fix.

Bucco Mojo is strong tonight!!!

10 out of 12

Rolling!!

Pirates are getting healthy / hot at the right time. Not sure if they have enough to make a splash or not, but hppefully they can make it interesting. The cubs will be the real problem.
I don't understand why everyone says how poor the pitates division is. It does not have a dominant team, but look at the wildcard standings 3 of the top 5 are from the central.

The only reason why it's a "poor division" is their records. They are sub or just over .500. Other than that, they are not the Dodgers that are on a 30-4 run.

Exciting game last night and I really hope Huntington adds some pieces for a legit chance to compete going down the stretch. Give them a chance.

Pirates pick up the sweep. Believe they said they are 14-3 since Rivero was moved to closer and outside of the Dodgers, are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now.

Great to see them pushing forward...hoping they keep it up.

Great stuff!!!

Add another starting pitcher at the trade deadline, and they can win the division.

Neal Huntington does not even need to break the bank in terms of prospects. If he can pull off another Happ/Nova type move, the Pirates will be in great shape.

As it relates to the future of the team, I'm liking Cole Tucker a lot. There are still some holes in his game, but his upside is tremendous.

He was just promoted to AA Altoona.

Let's hope they aren't giving us false hope. They need to come out on fire against the Rockies.

Hurdle got away with sitting starters today luckily. He's making me question him more and more.

can they win 2 out 3 in Colorado? That would be impressive, as well. The Rockies are pretty damn good and especially, at home. Got to keep the train rolling along.

This next month is as easy a stretch as they will have all season ON PAPER. These are the teams that they always have trouble with.
