Pirates 2018

BTW--best Bucco start since 1976!

Quick trip down memory lane...
Starting pitchers that year :

John Candelaria
Bruce Kison
Jerry Reuss
Doc Medich
Jim Rooker

Damn, had another good lead tonight and the shaky bullpen craps the bed. Oh well.

They're asking too much of their relief pitching.

The starters have not been very efficient at all, struggling to pitch a full six innings in basically every game thus far.

Also, I noticed Polanco is hurt again. It's apparently a minor day-to-day thing, but the guy is approaching China doll territory.

Slightly off topic but it is frustrating as all get out that the area of NC that I live is is claimed by 4 MLB teams as a home market.

Which means any time the Pirates play the Reds, Orioles, Senators or Braves, the game is blacked out on my MLB online subscription.

Furthermore only the Braves are available on Directv regional sports network, so I am SOL whenever we play the Reds, or Balt/Wash.

I here ya...I get the DC, Balt, and Philly markets here....

No "home" team down here on the Delmarva peninsula...
Salisbury Shore Birds are the local minor league team...

You're right there. When your starters all struggle to make it to the 6th inning every night, it's only a matter of time. The bullpen is going to start collapsing more and more often.

Right on cue. Jameson Tallion with a complete game, one hitter. Hot damn, that kid has got what it takes.

On Saturday Cutch went 6 for 7, 4 rbis and the walk off home run.

The only guy who might be pitching better than Taillon is Cole, 14 innings, 2-0, 1 earned run and 22 K's.

Maybe we had a Championship caliber team and didn't know it.

I like Colin Moran, but if the Pirates would have held onto Cole for just one more season, they could have done some real damage this year, with as strong as Taillon and the offense are looking.

As it stands right now, I'm not sure the rotation is good enough for then to stay in contention.

I was not a big fan cole. He just never seemed to fully put it together. You could count on him to go out there throw 7 innings and give up 3-4 runs. He was not clutch in the playoffs when needed. It is way too early to make predictions and i feel they are playing way over their head right now. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going and the rest of the pitchers will catch up

I can’t disagree with any of your points. Hopefully in the long run, the Cole trade will be a win. He wasn’t re-signing, so better to get what we can.

Of course he is tearing it up this year in his 2 starts

Cole looks good this year no doubt, but I wasn't crying the blues when they traded him. My biggest beef with him when he was with the Pirates was that as soon as he started to face some adversity in a game his emotions got the best of him and undid him. Too many times he would throw like 4 good innings...then in the 5th he would give up a few hits or a homer, get pissed off then promptly give up 3 more runs and get pulled from the game.

Glasnow had given me some hope his last couple starts in Spring Training, but he was absolutely terrible in relief last night.

He just has some sort of mental barrier when it comes to pitching in the majors.

Just look at his face when he's on the mound. He looks like a scared kid.

Stuff about Gerrit Cole this year WTF.....

https://sports.yahoo.com/gerrit-col...-johnson-records-astros-tenure-032950822.html

Gerrit Cole joins Nolan Ryan as the only pitchers in recorded major league history to strike out 11 or more in each of his first three starts of a season. Ryan struck out 12, 11 and 14 in his first three starts of 1973 for the Angels.

Stats By STATS @StatsBySTATS

Gerrit Cole has a career-high 14 strikeouts tonight, giving him 36 strikeouts in his first three games with the @astros.

That's the most by any player in the live-ball era in his first 3 starts with a new team, surpassing Randy Johnson (34 with the Diamondbacks in 1999).

Chris Peixoto @cp_astros

Gerrit Cole struck out 14 batters on 93 pitches. No pitcher in MLB history had ever recorded that many strikeouts in a game by throwing 93 pitches or less.

The Yankees better get their checkbook out for when Boras sends him their way in the fall of 2019.

It's April 14th, and the Reds are already 8 games out of first place. Man, it must suck to be a fan of that team. They gave Votto big money, and now they don't have enough cash to field a team around him. If you have a young star, and he's not a Boras client, you have to pay him early, and postpone free agency by a couple of years. When it comes time to pay the real big money, you have to send them on their way. 8 years is about the most a small market team can get out of a top of the line star.

Jameson Tallion has been outstanding. 6 more shutout innings last night. ERA after 3 starts, 0.89. Good to see them scratch out a hard fought 1-0 win the day after getting shellacked, I love the fact that they only had 3 hits in the game before Dickerson gives them the game's only run in the 9th.....on a bunt pop up that landed between the pitcher and 2nd baseman.

Winning games like last night is what gets you to the post season. Scrappy team so far.

Our Team WHIP and ERA is very concerning........

Whether or not they can fix the middle relief will determine if this is a 78-85 win team, or a 90+ win team that can compete for a playoff spot.

Closer changed his last name? That's odd.
