Pirates 2018

Mrs. Burgundy and some friends witnessed Pirates history-in-the-making last night. Longest 9 inning Pirates game ever at 4:31. It took a lot of time for the Phillies to score 17 runs.
I didn't go because 1) I thought I'd have to work (I didn't) and 2) I've been boycotting the Pirates since 2004 anyway.
 
 
Pirates won the series versus Washington and won last night against Milwaukee. A pre-All Star Break groove? Hope they win this series with Milwaukee. It could build a lot of momentum going into the break. After the break, Pitt has a lot more road games.
 
Break up the Bucs! Good for them! Will make it a tad bit harder to sell off the pieces if they continue to do well.
 
They are not going anywhere...they need to move some guys and work on rebuilding.
 
Meadows should be playing every day. I know they're hoping to probably get a decent return for Dickerson but you need Meadows out there. Newman is probably ready in AAA, and Kang is available as well. Either one is probably an upgrade over Harrison. He's having an awful season. Maybe they run at .500 if Bell can start to produce. Cervelli and the 4 outfielders are really the only above average hitters they have this year.

They have been rebuilding since what? 1993? Would be nice to see a contender in Pittsburgh again. Two weeks ago, my son and I visited the National Baseball Hall of Fame. It was something I already knew, yet it stunned me to be reminded that the Pirates hadn't been to the NLCS since 1992, much less the World Series. It's been long enough.
 
Meadows was sent down to Indy to avoid Super II status and Kang is still hurt. Cervelli and J-Hay are also hurt, so could end up
being hard to move elsewhere. Will be interesting to see if they stay hot after All-Star break.
 
Who are these guys and what have they done with the Pittsburgh Pirates??
 
I never thought they'd sniff .500 again this year, let alone get above it.
 
They are not winning the division (would be great if they prove me wrong). No use giving away young talent for a rental if you have no real shot at the postseason.
 
Every time I give up on them they do this. Hopefully it continues but I'm not going to feel too confident until this keeps up for awhile. They seem to inevitably swoon towards the end of the season.

It's not a question of being fair weather. I have been a Pirates fan for 25 years and I have seen the late season swoon way too many times before to get my hopes up too soon. If they are still winning in late August I'll get excited. For now I'm cautiously optimistic.
 
Knocked around one of the better pitchers in baseball last night in Kluber. 10 wins in a row. If Harrison gets a hot bat the lineup gets even better.
 
First game I watched all season last night. Looks like with good pitching and hot bats, they can creep up in the WC race. The Tribe looked like the Bucs did a month ago, couldn't get out of their own way.
 
10 consecutive wins and they are putting up some runs.

Sorry, man. I see your perspective. Who really knows what will happen next. There's too much baseball left.
