Playoffs Just for Fun

I agree. His players love him and have been fighting hard all season. There have been some players complaining at times (including Cole during the game last night) but they have stuck together. If they were to somehow win the final 2 games, Tomlin will put another huge feather in his cap and should be up there for coach of the year but he won't be. The bad thing about this is I doubt we see any changes after the season other than maybe special teams coach.
I have to agree that Tomlin has done a fairly decent job moving the team forward in what is a rebuilding season. BUT if he sits on his laurels and brings back his entire coaching staff, particularly Canada, it's all for naught. This guy is not an NFL caliber Offensive Coordinator.

I am not a Tomlin guy but he has done a very good job this year.

Surprising to see all the love for Tomlin. Not sure what's so wonderful about the job he's done. The Steelers have seven wins; six of those are against teams with losing records. The only good team they beat all season was the Bengals, in week one. They got completely destroyed by the Bills and Eagles. They are an average team performing exactly like you'd expect they would.

Plus Tomlin's decision to throw Pickett in there after halftime against the Jets without any preparation as the starter probably stunted KP's growth. Very questionable timing for a player so important to the future of the team.

LOL...I wonder when someone will yell out "the emperor has no clothes" by saying " And no winning seasons of anything that matters...without Cowher's team."
Well, that would rile up the black supr, errr, I mean the Tomlin Fan Club in the FB group. Always does.

Apparently Canaduh has a year left on his contract, got an extension with the promotion, so I say it's a better than 50/50 chance that he's back.
Deuce doesn't pay people not to work and I'm coming around to thinking that Shades doesn't like change of any sort and would keep his whole staff in place forever if he could.

Good lawd Ron
Just when I thought I got every gift possible…another year of Canada too!!!

So blessed

Hearing this news I think
It very likely he’s back next year 🤦🏻‍♂

Remember that our Special Teams have sucked for a long time and our Special Teams coach (Bubbles) has been here for nine years and Shades thinks he's great.

at 1 point this year the steelers were talked about possibly getting the top pick, top 5 pick, top 10 pick. And with 2 games left, still not out of the playoff hunt. that is not horrible coaching.

Mike Tomlin, he's not horrible!
He isnt as bad as what people think on this board. if his contract was up, he would have about 20 teams coming after him.

Oh, I agree, now if he would just hire at least competent assistants, and let them coach, I think most would be fine with him.

Actually this is a year the Steelers are performing above my expectations. Especially when you consider that Watt missed several games and has been playing injured all season.

Not so much love for Tomlin. Just acceptance that he's not going anywhere.

I don't think there is one person out there that thinks the Steelers have a GOOD CHANCE TO MAKE THE PO's. Not ONE.......but there is a chance!!!!!
Not to worry. Our last 3 playoff appearances yielded over 40 points allowed.... And this team struggles to put up 20 on the a good day....

All the **** that needs to happen,….. happens.

Steelers play all away games and blow out opponents through the AFCCG.

The SB is a route similar to the Bears / cheatriots SB in 85’

Tomlin is seated at the head of the Fire-truck in the championship parade…………

I come out of my “SPIRIT WORLD” trans-like state and can’t believe it isn’t so.!!!

Salute the nation

Tomlin is absolutely a top five head coach. But that's mostly because there are a lot of bad coaches.
This isn't the 70's when there were 8 future Hall Of Famers on the sidelines every week.
I've never said Tomlin was a bad coach, I think he's a good coach, but I don't think he's a great coach.
Great coaches win more than 3 playoff games in 11 years.
Great coaches hire good assistants and not window lickers off the short bus just because it's someone they know.
Great coaches don't have 40+ points scored against them in 3 consecutive playoff games, a stand-alone NFL record.
Noll and Cowher had some losing seasons but the team is currently in their longest stretch without a playoff win since Noll was hired in 1969, 6 years.

I agree with you. I am just saying Tomlin is no way near as bad as people on here think.

The playoff teams are Buffalo, KC, Cinci, Jax, Balt, LA, and Miami. Also have NE, Tenn, NYJ as possibilities. We match up ok w/ a few teams. We could beat Balt, NE, Tenn, Jax, NYJ. KC, Cinci, Buff would probably destroy us. Tua might be out for the year he is back in protocol. LA is iffy. If we get in and the right match ups we could actually win a game or 2, but getting in first is the tricky part.

week 17 Steelers, Pats, Seattle win we are in it until final weekend.

week 18 Steelers, Bills, Jets win we get a chance at the dance!

none of the other games appear to matter.

I don't know if this article is true or not, but according to this scenario, I don't think it's all that far-fetched that we get in. Our D is playing great.

Pittsburgh Steelers beat Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns
Miami Dolphins lose to New England Patriots and New York Jets
New York Jets lose to Seattle Seahawks in Week 17
New England Patriots lose to Buffalo Bills in Week 18

If the Jets do beat Seattle, we'll need the Jets and Dolphins to tie. Haha.

Lesser coaches would have lost this team weeks ago. I was a Tomlin supporter but had enough a few years ago. But, if they win out, he has to be given big props for the job he did this year with a very young and inferior team and one of the worst OC's in the NFL and a terrible OL. He hasn't been perfect by any stretch but this team plays hard for him every week no matter what. That is impressive.

This:

"Great coaches hire good assistants and not window lickers off the short bus just because it's someone they know." - Burgundy

And to a lesser extent clock and challenge management.

The Steelers will again finish the year a couple of losses away from where they could have but didn’t. Not horrible, but definitely disappointing and familiar. They weren't going to be a Super Bowl contender, but they could be on the inside of the playoffs looking out instead of the other way around.

I dont think this year is turning out to be disappointing. sure I would love to be in Supe Bowl contention. same every year. But with a new QB, and TJ out for a lot of the year, it could be a lot worse.
again, not a Tomlin fan, but you have to admit, that he is not doing a bad job this year.

The Steelers have some pretty good coaches on the defensive side of the ball and look at what they’ve done since the bye week. Conversely, the offensive coaches are a bunch of nobodies with an OC who will be out of the league the second the Steelers move on. The offense has been bad for four years now. Hire some quality coaches on the offensive staff.

On a side note, I wonder if Flores will get another head coaching job this year. Given the terrible situation they’re in, Denver could be a possibility. There will surely be some teams that won’t want to touch him as well.

Regarding Flores. Hopefully we keep him for 1 more year before he gets another HC deal. Would love a couple extra 3rd rounders

And who was coaching the Steelers when they were 2-6? Or that doesn't that poor start matter, because they've managed to beat some shltty teams?

Not me. I thought they'd breeze to 8+ wins, and I bet on it. But you're right -- losing Watt had a major impact.

And who gave one of the worst OC's in the NFL his job? Who passed on Creed Humphrey and then drafted Kendrick Green, a guard in college, then started him day one at center for most of 2021, but hasn't dressed him for a single game in 2022?
