Pound the Table - Love or Hate

Saw the quote below from the presser today with Kahn and Tomlin. I think this is complete BS. If Tomlin feels this way and if the league truly is getting away from the NT, then why hasn't Tomlin (supposedly a D mind) figured out how to stop from getting run over the past few years and especially later in the season and the playoffs? I don't buy this for a second. Having a guy in the middle that can command double teams and collapse pockets is huge, yet we haven't done it since Big Snack, and Tomlin insists on only using 2 DL on way too many downs.

"This one hurt a little. We've been lobbying for the Steelers to add a nose tackle in the draft but Tomlin burst our bubble when he said the nose position is going away the way of the fullback."

He's 13-12 as the starter for the Buffs. 9-4 this last year. They had ONE win the year before Deion showed up and brought his sons and Hunter. That's pretty impressive for a smaller school to improve that much in just two years. Let's not forget that team is NOT littered with NFL talent. There's Shedeur, Hunter and then anyone else is most likely an UDFA, including Shilo.
How exactly did he change the game? They had 1 winning season and suddenly it's a winning culture and he changed it? And he thinks he deserves to have his jersey retired, sounds entitled. I'll pass, came across as a jerk in several meetings with NFL teams.

Well the brilliance of Tomlin, he thinks that the NT has to be 350lbs, someone needs to tell him it's ok to use 3 DL that are around 300lbs each, but that would mean he'd probably have to take an ILB off the field, then we'd have no one to cover WR's in the middle of the field LOL.

My thoughts on the draft. I will readily admit that most know more in their little pinkies about the college players than I do in my entire being. Having said this I did look at a couple players.

It does warm me up a bit that Emmanwori has been mentioned by more than a few. I think this guy is a stud. Just as I thought we should have taken Brian Branch. Emmanwori could exceed him. Long frame, super fast ,super strong. Great tackler ,Great instincts. Personally I think our DB,Safety play has let us down time after time after time.

The amount of times i thought we had them on third and 10,3rd and 15,zip…first down. Caught in front of Fitz…Fitz makes tackle. Fitz has been on the decline for 2-3 years now. Contract is coming up. He just doesn’t make big plays consistently like he used to. If this guy somehow falls,I sure hope he gets serious consideration.

This being said,it’s a QB driven league. I’ve been saying we need a QB for years in the draft, even when Ben was on the roster winding down his career. I did also believe we had to fix our OLine trenches to give our heir apparent a fighting chance. We’ve spent the resources on the line. I’ve always said it will take 3 years to build. I surely hope this is the year the OLine gels. I do think Ward and Sanders will be long gone when we pick. If they trade up and give a ton of draft capital my beautiful 55” Sony XBR might have to be replaced with a 65” Sony. We will see if a remote control can actually go right through that thin screen.

If they truly believe their franchise QB of the future is available at pick 21…. Have to pull the trigger. If there are doubts wait till 3rd or 4th. This wait till next years crop. I mean Manning has thrown a grand total of 95 passes in his college career. He’s from a family of experience and money. He’d be nuts to declare next season. I realize there are others higher rated. But if you believe in a guy this year, and he’s there you draft him.

These are highlights but you tell me what you see wrong w/ Sanders game at QB. Everyone loved how Ben stayed in the pocket and created plays - I see the same style...

Watch it all but DEFINITELY start from the 11:00 min mark:

I don't know how anyone can be upset w/ selecting the most accurate QB in the draft, if he's available...

He’s not a 1st round talent. Doesn’t have the arm strength. I’ve said I like his accuracy but in general a QB with great accuracy and limited arm strength is a backup or low level starter. To me he’s Pickett, Minshew, Aiden O’Connel, Stetson Bennett etc.

He played a lot of awful defenses in the Big 12 and was not good vs the few decent defenses he played. He gets bailed out by his WRs pretty often.

Only 23% of his completions were over 10 yards.

This vid from Dane Brugler pretty much sums up how I feel about him. He can be OK in the right situation but not a guy who lifts the team with his talent.

Then he better change to a true 4-3 front. Trade Highsmith or dare I say Watt and put 3 freaking uglies up there with a rushing OLB in an odd front

That narrative is ridiculous. They harp on them only winning 1 game in 22 but this is the portal era. Deion cut like 50 guys and brought in a portal team and they went 4-8 in their first year in the Pac 12. They were 0-6 vs teams with winning record.

In year 2, they switched to the weak Big 12 and went 9-4 which sounds good unless you notice they were 3-4 vs teams with winning records (4-4 if you count the Div 2 win vs ND State).

In 2 seasons the "miracle" turnaround has 3 wins above 500 teams - Tex Tech, Baylor and Colorado St

Retire that jersey.

Yeah that just showed me he is a difficult eval. Would I take him top 5? No.

But at 21 you will have more questions.

Again it doesn’t mean you don’t draft a QB because he is a difficult evaluation.

Was he accurate? Yes… was he a one year wonder? No. Did he help elevate that offense? Yes

Might he only be just ok nothing special sure. Just as equal possibility that he is a QB that can help elevate the players around him.

I still think he goes before the Steelers. Might even go after Dart.

If he is available at 21 I wouldn’t want to be the guy to have to decide that, for me that is how difficult it would be to make the choice…

Still Dart is off the board he is still there? I swing

I went to youtube to pull up a shot of the defensive alignment to show you that Tomlin is really running a hybrid 4-3 tampa 2 concept and something REALLY stuck out to me. ******* made my stomach turn. Watch the video and focus on Patrick Queen. That MF'er didn't even TRY.

all of it made my stomach turn

this is pound the table state what you want and what you dont.

not about sheduer

But with QB being the biggest need, and the steelers having official visits with Sanders, Dart, McCord and Shough, it's impossible not to talk about QB in rd 1. That means the steelers main decision is to draft Sanders or Dart if available at 21 or to go elsewhere. If you have a true 1st round grade on a QB, you have to take him.

I just strongly disagree that Sanders or Dart are 1st round guys. I'd prefer Dart because he has more arm talent. I'd rather roll the dice on the huge upside of Milroe but he could be multi year project if they take a QB in rd 1. I'd rather take a guy like McCord, Shough, Howard in a later round. I don't see Sanders or Dart as being a 2 rounder better prospect than those guys.

To me, drafting Sanders would be like drafting Troy Edwards over Javon Kearse. The first round is for impact players and not for locking in on a position and drafting the guy who may not be a top talent. They just did that with Pickett.

You also have to consider the steelers are almost certainly taking a RB. If you go QB in rd 1 and then RB in rd 3, now you are looking at a rd 4 DT as your top guy. There will still be solid guys available but likely not an impact player.

Id go Dline round one. Jaxon Dart doesnt have good enough draft projections to warrent a pick in first round. You will easily get better then him in first round next year, but then you can't take qb then because you already overinvested. As far as WR. That's considering Pickens has a future with the Steelers which he does not.
Who are all these guys in this "loaded" QB class?

What don't you like about Sanders? I understand he doesn't have a Josh Allen arm, but his accuracy is pretty insane and from what I've read from scouting reports he's very good at keeping his eyes down field and going through his progressions--pretty much the opposite from what we saw from Pickett. If they want a QB high, they have to take one at 21 because these guys will fly off the board at the top of the second (or late first if a team trades up).

I'm hoping for Emmanwori, but there will probably be four or five guys I could live with at 21 including Dart.

I've read a few articles about the team planning to trade up from 21. I think I'll lose it if they jump into the top ten then select someone like Sanders. I don't know if the guys going from picks 10 to 20 are that much better than 20-30 in this draft. There will still be a lot of talent in positions of need when the Steelers pick at 21 through the end of the round.

The spot they should look at trading up to is near the end of the first. Trade back a few spots from 21 for pick one, then jump back into the end of round one for pick two. That should give them two guys, if they draft the right positions, that could fill a position of need that could start this year. Don't mortgage this draft or future drafts to jump up from 21 in this draft.

Highlight reels Berm…… only fair to put Darts on too. Nobody looks bad on their highlight reels. Certainly looks like he can make every throw too. And he does a bit of scampering here too.

I watched this. But I still have also watched Lane Kiffin and his offensive scheme in the SEC. He gets players WIDE OPEN on RTO, constant motion, screens and picks...

Dart is a 2 read guy from what I see...

This is the ******* best post of the offseason!!!

@Steelmann WINNER!!!

Great post. It puts things in perspective.

i think he wants to pound sheduer in his tight end....

I'll pound the table, the walls, a bottle of whiskey if they draft baby sanders. yes DL is deep but why not get one of the top guys and not the leftovers
Maaann!!! I just spit my drink out reading this ****!!! Where are my Bounty wipes???

Not only a strong arm, but strong.
At 2:25 love how he barreled through tacklers to the EZ like a running back.

He reminds me of Josh Allen.
Take him.
