I don't think he is a lock either. But I think he is pointing that direction from preseason game 1. Good depth for sure. It might come down to who they feel they can store on the PS. Be nice to see Austin show off some of that bionic speed.

Yes well it actually worked out with all the injuries because we got to see Gunner as a wr… going into this game i had him in the sixth wr spot if we kept six… if miller is hurt and can’t compete, Gunner will probably leapfrog him, but I don’t know if he can play split end at all…
sims leapfrogged Boykin in my opinion, but that still leaves him seventh in the pecking order and definitely outside looking in barring us trading one or two guys… Tyler vaugn and Cody white are both capable young receivers buried here too…
this has to be the most depth at wr we have had… I remember once Leslie Shepherd was seventh on our roster… 93 or 94 i think… we kept six wrs the year we cut him and kept charles Davenport over him… he went on to have a pretty nice career down in Washington while Davenport was out of tge league afterthat year or the next… this group is far deeper.

This is definitely the year to carry six. But then that spot has to come from somewhere… they aren’t shorting TE this season, and i dont think tgey can afford to short the oline, so either qb or Rb has to give up a spot…
Before last years draft, when Pickett hadn’t decided to come back yet, someone called Madden to suggest they draft him in the fifth or sixth round and develop him to take over for Ben and Madden destroyed him calling him every type of idiot there is in the dictionary… lol..
Madden is entertaining because he is a blowhard… he isn’t there to be insightful, he is there to be a wrestling heel… he does his job well
He doesn't like the Steelers very much, also Yinzer fans who want to talk Steelers when it's not football season.
He's all about hockey and the Penguins though.

Agreed. Dude is a proven punt returner. Steelers gave him a look at slot receiver and he did well. He is on the 53 unless injured.
Harvin has been good in camp, reportedly averaging 4.6 to 4.7 in hang time while regularly hitting punts 45 yards or more.

The Steelers barely used a backup last year but they could barely run the ball. Hopefully they will be running the ball more this year. Snell plays with a ton of heart and is a solid special teams player. I like what I saw from Warren last night.

Right. When it comes to discussing football, Madden knows a lot about hockey. I suspect he resents the Steelers popularity and the popularity of football over hockey and soccer.

And that had to come from guys he talks to who go to camp because we certainly no Madden isn't there. Madden, Kaboly, and Dulac were all completely dismissing any of those preseason performances by the QBs last night. I guess the QB play didn't fit their agendas last night.
That was last year. They've had the time to evaluate him during camp. He must've done well. Especially since the talk going into camp was that the kid they brought in wasn't just an extra leg, but rather, someone who would provide competition to Harvin.
Nothing matters till the games. Oh well. If he sucks again plenty on the street. But he was at the bottom of bet yards I believe. With not horrible tacklers on SP. Teams.
His net was 42.5. About 40 in front but that includes one and 2 week guys like the guy Corliss something or other they brought in when his dad passed. I don't think they should have cut PH3 but they needed to bring hom out all three games here to see what he does.
I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just saying that "obviously" they felt he'd shown enough in camp that they were comfortable letting the other guy handle the punting duties last night so that he could have tape for other teams. We'll probably get a good hard look at Harvin next week.

They brought him in in free agency. They know what he looks like against other vets. I think they were just checking out other peeps.
I mean to be fair, Claypool and CA3 were out with injuries… minimizing the next guy up at slot was the smart play. CA3 is tge top backup at both return positions, and may be better than Gunner, but if CA 3 is hurt long term, then why risk gunner in a role you know he can do?
Playing him in the slot is different, he still has to prove he can handle that role
