Okay , okay , it is known that the Steelers beat themselves, but lack of discipline. However, I feel regardless if we took the win the following stood out much more.
At the end of the day we have only lost to one divisional opponent and need to mentally and tactically toughen up. Let's go Steelers!
- Offensive Tactics:. We need to return to our Steelers roots and play Steelers style football games; Run the ball! It has been many years since we've had such a dominant RB tandem. Let's slow things down and pound the ball. This will only open up the passing game and keep our opponent defenses in check. I was very disappointed to see our team start the game with 3 straight pass plays. Once we have a lead, we need to manage possession by running the ball and/or targeting another 1st down. On many occasions, there were opportunities for small yardage advancements (dump offs to L.Bell or Heath), but seemed like Ben kept looking down field for the big splash play! We need to play smart disciplined football.
- Defensive Need: Love him or hate him, Ike Taylor's loss proved how crucial it was to have him as our primary CB. This was evident the entire game and especially the last Buc's TD, which I'm sure our upcoming opponents clearly know our weakness. Unfortunately, the best way to support a weak secondary is a solid pass rush, which I hope with more play time we return to Steelers Defense. I do feel the addition of Debo will only help our return to our defensive expectations and am sure he will contribute much more as he gets closer to football shape.
