Rats crack down on Dionte

DJ is probably pissed about his usage in Baltimore...

In pittsburgh he was default WR 1 for the past few seasons... his rep took a hit when the Steelers dumped him to Carolina, but even there he was their top targeted wr.. he hasnt been there since the deadline and still is 2nd on their target list for the season by one target 58 to 59...

Baltimore got him as a safety net because flowers had an injury scare around that time and dj is that type of wr.. but then they never really used him...

Since he got to Baltimore, he has 5 total targets...in 5 games.. way down from the 8.2 he was getting in Carolina or his career in pittsburgh..

He is an UFA ... the Ravens keeping him as a backup plan is costing him money... he already has the tag as a bad locker room guy.. so now he may as well force himself off the team, sign with someone where his targets will enable him to rehab his image enough to get a decent short term contract somewhere
I think that decent short term contract is sailed. I think regardless it is close to vet minimum if not that. Too many warning signs for middling production.

AB seemed to be a pretty good citizen and teammate until that Birthdefect hit to the head loosened some screws and then he jumped fully on the crazy train, I think he is kind of an interesting case
No, he wasn't. AB was kicked out of his first college before he started after an altercation with a security guard, was also kicked out of home by his stepfather when he was in high school and spent a year or two couch surfing. I think being kicked out of home (and whatever lead up to it) probably had more to do with his issues.

Don't forget there was also plenty of other attention seeking behaviour in his early Steelers days. Turning up to training camp in a helicopter, the fast money crew, the business is booming slogan, his reaction when his 5 catch/50 yard streak (which had been keeping media attention on him) came to an end during one of Ben's injury absences

The other issues you refer to (request to be traded, furniture throwing etc) materialised after JuJu was awarded team MVP ahead of AB.

Pooooor, poor DJ. My heart is broken for him

I agree to an extent

Bet he has some serious CTE issues

Anymore today’s player is just a different breed than the old school players were, but that just mirrors workers in every line of work in America having a different work ethic as well.

It’s a weird world in the over exposures of the social media world and the instant gratification society we now live in. Ya just don’t see as many of the old school mentality, team oriented, high work ethic type of players or employees in any given field anymore.
The cte definitely and the Big $$ and being the top dog NFL talent got to AB's head.
For the most part RB usually fit the mold of High character/ High work ethic/ no drama types. The money and fame doesn't seem to ruin/ turn them into diva's at the same rate as WR. Look at guys like Jerome, Fast Willie, Saquan, Derrick Henry, Ladanian Tomlinson etc. Perfect examples of all class, no drama. WR is usually 180 degree opposite of that.

WRs are narcissistic headcases...
thats how its always been...
its not even limited to the steelers... wr is flashy and on an island.. it draws a ton of attention per play made. it doesnt require selflessness ... Athletic narcissists are drawn to it like fruit flys to my bar drink...

Not dumber than most of your posts. The whole dropping the ball thing was way overstated. He had one bad year and again it came down to his head not his talent. He had immense talent with a terrible head for the game. He could do just about anything AVB could do physically, he lacked the mental fortitude to do it sadly and was apparently a bad teammate. That doesn't mean he didn't have the potential; I think he absolutely had it. That is what makes his story all the worse is he could have been great.

Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers: 16 dropped passes

If your memory of Diontae Johnson’s season involves lots of really short tosses on shallow drags bouncing off his hands or chest, you aren’t imagining things. Johnson dropped a whopping 14 passes within five yards of the line of scrimmage, per Sports Info Solutions. He dropped 16 overall to lead the league in this unofficial stat.

It's not a case of Over or understated. He led the league in drops. Fact

Mental cancer or not he had physical talent. Otherwise, none of us would give a **** about him. Malcontents with no talent are not even worth discussing.
And that is why he was kept on the team(talent). How many playoff wins did we get with him on the tesm though?

Talent only goes so far. Especially when the malcontents are let to run amuck. Especially when there are no real player leadership on the team. A void of player leadership has been here for far to long. Even when one certain RB broached the subject to our HC he was simply told to just play RB.

Is it coincidence that our playoff drought has run parallel with the malcontents running amuck while we have a void in player leadership? Maybe. Possibly.

Hopefully this season if/when we make the playoffs we make a very deep run in them.

Funny, DJ had no problems under Ben, with his route work, he was an exceptional target for him even under O’Canada’s high school playbook. After Ben retired, DJ’s targets, catches, TDs and yards all were impacted, due to lessor chemistry with the three other QBs that replaced him.

Also to clarify, AB wasn’t forced out. He quit. “Management” went to AB to fortify a solution to remain. When he wanted to renegotiate a contract he just signed, he was put on the trade block. “Management” had a trade for 2nd round (some say 1st round), but AB torpedoed it.

DJ refused to put in work to improve chemistry with the QB or was injured. When he wasn’t receiving all the targets he wanted (sometimes his complaint was justified) he pouted or quit on plays.

So yeah, blame “management” or just say what you really mean, the head coach.
It always goes back to management. Then to ownership. Nature of the beast. When management keeps doing the same thing again and again.....and again but always/hoping/expecting a different result...they usually will be fired. Pittsburgh has a different standard though.

Lots of truth is those statements. Have you ever seen the way the Japanese grow up/school? Fascinating. The kids handle most of the chores there.

Yes, I agree a great many occurrences transpired before the head trauma incident. This guy has been wired screwy from the beginning, head trauma can not explain it. Did you notice his son after they landed the copter at practice? He made sure to give out a much-noticed yawn after landing, as if the event was not worth being awake for? The poor kid was bored with it all. Poor, poor kid. Ryan Clark warned us, quite noticeably, about what AB would turn into after he got his big contract; you'd have to have meant to shield yourself from his message on it in order to have missed it.

More revisionist bullshit from you. Ryan Clark didn’t warn “us”. He informed the position coaches and front office staff about AB’s mentality, based on his interactions before the Mike Wallace contract offer. When Wallace decided to wanted to hit free agency the contract was offered to the next WR on the “young money corp”. That was AB. Emmanuel Sanders was the third WR if AB balked it. After AB got the contract, RC’s prophetic comments to the team FO ended up shortly ringing true after the Coach LeBeau incident, numerous others including broadcasting live in the locker room on Facebook after a win against KC with the HC giving a speech to the team. Ryan Clark didn’t even remark about what occurred with AB publicly until a couple years AFTER he retired. But keep making stuff up for us to say “I call Bullshit”.

I don’t know if his hollow head can absorb any of this actual true information.

Thanks for all thin info and great post(s) Ike !!!

Salute the nation

Cooch he was not screwy @ the beginning. I saw him up close and personal @ training camp and his demeanor was nice, friendly, personable, etc.

You love inventing things I hope fans don’t buy stock in anything you spew.

Kid yawned maybe he was tired or just woke up? Cooch knows what children are thinking deep down!

I won’t call you an idiot. I won’t. I will be festive and just think it.

Coach Bob Lloyd probably didn’t even realize that the helicopter arrival was the year he quit on the last game against CIN and subsequently was traded a couple months later at the start of 2019 free agency. So that 2018 training camp exploit was only observed by the media and his personal photogs. The beginning of the end that year for AB in PIT.

Personally, I thought Mr. Rooney’s wheels up landing coming back from training camp in early 2000’s was much more impressive. No instruments, no radio, failed landing gear mechanism. Smooth landing in the grass at West Allegheny airport. Walked away after landing with no injuries or even a stain on his polyester slacks. Dan had bigger balls than AB will ever have. Although, word had it that Mrs Rooney was waiting for him at home ready with a frying pan. She didn’t want him to buy Chuck Noll’s plane in the first place when he offered.

I wish West Allegheny had an airport. I would have taken flying lessons. I know you meant Allegheny county. Not my alma mater.

I remember they brought in a boxing coach to work with the OL about halfway through Ben’s career to help the OL with their initial strike/punch abilities. Always thought that was a cool concept.
Seems like something that could work well again with what Mayer tries to do with the OL.

I always enjoy the somewhat out of the box cross training techniques used to improve guys and round out their skill sets.
Yeah, I believe Lynn Swann used to do ballet to help with footwork and agility. It seemed to work for him.

Tip ‘o the 🎩 Bleeder, you are right. If figured it was West Allegheny Co. airport since it happened so close to West Mifflin. I was visiting family that training camp in 2002 (maybe 2000) and couldn’t believe it happened. My Uncle lived in McKeesport, and used to take us there when we were kids to see the WWII birds when they would visit before heading to Oshkosh or greater NY air shows.

AB had issues going into college. Even his few years here he started his bullshit. After year 2 and they handed him the new contract when Ryan Clark heard about it from a member of the front office he stated that they will create a monster if they give him that contract. The Steelers just kept everything in house until it benefited them not to.

Until it "benefitted them not to?" Or until he completely lost all common sense and sanity, like he still is going through. I especially frown on how he rips off the common man just trying to work their crafts with things like providing food. Ripping off these people is the lowest. He'd rack up bills of 10s of thousands of $s just to rip of the cooks. What a scumbag. I've never seem him represent himself civilly. Whatever made him go coo coo sure did a # on him. It appears Clark had his #, he began questioning his act as soon as he got his big $.
