Darn. Had a feeling this was coming but was hoping for a discount (relative to Mack's deal) based on 1) coming off a serious knee injury and 2) still having 1 year left on his contract and possibility of being tagged next offseason (Mack was able to negotiate with any other team although he was transition tagged).

I was thinking the same thing. We sure have been with out him for a long time. I hope he does not become Duce or Lamar the second.

One of the best centers in the league and still only 24. He may potentially be actually entering his prime, compared to say, Alex Mack.

Its alot of $$, no doubt. But it is difficult to imagine Pouncey not getting top end $$ with his credentials.

You're not getting Pouncey by paying him less. You have to figure for escalation with these contracts.

I do not think we would have spent that much more by waiting a year and using some sort of tag on him. I would have like to see him put up a year of quality play after his injury before making this kind of long term commitment to him. But that is just me.

Better start playing like it. He's been average the last few years and the like of Velasco and Wallace played almost as well. Time to step up Pouncey!

I think that surely would have raised his price. Besides, we know what we have with Pouncey, and his coaches say he's still improving. Guys lack that you lock up earlier, not later.

I see Black and Gold Bleeder's point. Is Pouncey at his best better than Velasco? Yes, I don't think anybody would deny that. However, the past few seasons haven't been Pouncey at his best. Granted, he's been dealing with injuries, so hopefully that's behind him. But honestly, I didn't see much of a drop off, if any, from 2012 Pouncey to 2013 Velasco. Look, I like Pouncey, and if he bounces back to his rookie/second year play, awesome! I also think this is an extremely risky extension at this point.

IMO Pouncey's always been a bit overrated. He gets pushed around a lot. If he's healthy and he improves, it's a good move. But those are some big ifs.
