Round 1 Discussion Thread

I think we could have gotten a starting CB in the 1st and a starting Safety in the 2nd.

ILB was a need but I don't think it was as big a need as a DB that can make INTs or a pass rusher that can actually rush the passer.

They had two positions on that D that were highly suspect. Burnett's spot -Bush and Bostic's spot - Barron.

They have some speedy options now however they play it.

I hate this trade. If they traded up 10 picks last year when they should have, they could have had LB Tremaine Edmunds or S Derwin james. or LB Vander Esch. All are bettter prospects than Bush.

This just seems like an overreaction to prior mistakes.

This likely means you can say goodbye to getting a Safety to push Sean Davis. It also means a much lesser CB prospect in the 3rd.

Also, if you are paying that heavy a price, why not grab Montez Sweat or Rashan Gary?

Steelers just said they think Bud Dupree and Sean Davis are good enough starters.

Patience, Patricia...we still have EIGHT picks to get some good players at FS and OLB...

***** ***** *****

Hey quit bitchin about people bitchin. Its what ******* do, *****. ;)

But seriously, I like the pick. Good to see the Steelers being aggressive and getting a top player.

We can still trade up to the 2nd, we have enough picks left, perhaps our early 3rd and a 6th to move up. That would give us a second and the original 3rd we have left.

If the steelers can pull off another move like that then I'd feel better about the Bush deal. But evaluated on it's own, they paid a heavy price.

They must be completely in love with Bush athletically and football IQ wise, also of his personality/leadership because they went balls out to get him

Right but now the steelers at the mercy of the draft. Hoping certain players fall to them.

they could easily move back into the 2nd if someone they value is available, if not there are plenty of good players expected to be around in the 3rd

Love the pic and the move. A lot has been done to improve the back end of this defense, (which was a huge problem last year) with the additions of Nelson, Baron and now Bush. Seems all the drama has refocused the team and the organization. I have no complaints with what they've done with free agency or the draft so far.

I like Nelson and Haden alot more than I like Vince/Bostic and Barron, we had no 3 down ILB

Keep in mind Drafting Bush means he can no be the play caller and Vince won’t have to anymore meaning he’s not out there on 3rd and 22 by the end of the season it can be Barron and bush in the 34 D

But I think you can cover up a weakness at ILB easier than a weakness in the secondary. Barron is basically a LB.

Lets's say for argument that Bush becomes a pro bowl caliber LB and Rock Ya-Sin or Byron Murphy or whoever is a pro bowl caliber CB. What would you rather add to this team?

I'd take the CB because that would give me Haden and Rock as solid starters and Nelson as a slot guy.

I'd even rather Darnell Savage to an ILB.

Ryan Shazier didn't make the steeler defense great. He could cover more ground than anybody and the defense still got torched by good passing teams because they lack pass rushers and playmakers in the secondary

What has our defense looked like WITHOUT Ryan Shazier??? M'kay....

Maybe it's the beer and the possibly tainted guacamole dip but I'm picturing Goodell walking out to the podium with Mike Tomlin walking in stride next to him in full MT Gear: Steeler ball cap, shades, leather Steelers jacket, warm-up pants, gold cross...Goodell then states: "There has been a trade..The Steelers trade next year's 1st, 2ND, and 3rd round draft picks and Head Coach Mike Tomlin to the Washington Redskins for their 2ND round pick in this year's draft.

It required a lot to get the Skins to take him off our hands but I like how the Steelers were aggressive in my hallucinogenic trade.

Denver picked fant at our original position, it was him or Savage for us too, probably

Ilb has become a carnell lake type safety... and if you don’t have one, you are ****** cause of the modern rb and te coupled with the pussification of over the middle defense...

Even in the previous era, james farrior was the real key to our dominant defense in that era... 3/4 types need that kind of ilb and its 100% more important in this day and age

Was the defense great with him? No because the secondary is subpar and they lack a consistent pass rush.
There were no pass rushers at #20 and none of the CBs seem to be impact players this season.
They can help their pass rusher by using 3 Dlinenmen and Watt

Have you taken a look at the prospects for the 2nd and 3rd rounds at FS/DB??? It's still too early to say, but, NONE of the TOP THREE DB's have been selected - NOT ONE OF THEM!!! That means we still have a great shot at picking Julian Love to help in the slot. Justin Layne could be the pick though seeing as he was the most touted DB by the FO and coaches outside of the top three. There are two SEC safeties that are still on 'my' radar - Garder-Johnson (FLA) and Thompson (BAMA) - two true ballhawks...

Let's wait and see rather than piss in the wind.
