Russel Wilson

No, I undertand that the stat is obviously subjective and far from perfect, quite possibly garbage - notice anything strange about the cumulative percentage?

I also understand that you’re arguing that the NFL’s best QBs often create their own pressure but it’s somehow bad when Wilson does it.

EXACTLY. It absolutely, 100% IS bad when Wilson creates his own pressure. That's the point. He's no longer his 26 year old former self and can no longer do what Mahomes and Allen can still do.

As a younger player, Russ could extend plays, elude pressure, get rid of the ball, or run. He THINKS he still can do those things when he cannot.

So having this number be as high as it is isn't necessarily a bad thing if you have the talent of a Mahomes or Allen. In Russ' case, it absolute is a BAD stat for a man 37 years old trying to pretend he's 26.

He causes the hell he faces 25% of the time.

Wilson has extended plays and he can still run. Better pass protection would help. I’m not expecting him to be a younger version of himself just a veteran who doesn’t need to play with a simplified passing game like Fields.

I figured I'd throw this in here. Fields said he wants to be back next year. He is tired of learning a new O every year. The Steelers should do everything they can to sign him even if they keep Wilson. If they keep Wilson, try to get Fields on an escalating contract and/or an incentive-based contract depending on how much he plays with a decent signing bonus. Make it happen and we will only have half of Steeler fans whining about who our QB is or isn't.

Yes he has extended plays and yes he can still sometimes run. Not often. It's the exception.

Both QBs, sadly, are playing under the same simplified passing game that rarely, almost never uses the middle of the field, is still full of bubble screens, and where most of the passes are outside the hashmarks. BOTH of them have been subject to this.

Fields can pass. He proved that several times this year, including against the LAC (25 of 32 for 245 yards, 78.1%, 96.0 QBR) and the Colts (22-34 for 312 yards, 64.7%, 104.0 QBR).

They started him out slow, his attempts were down earlier in the season and steadily grew.

He's proven he can throw when allowed to. You like to blame everyone else - players, the defense, the coaching - for Wilson's parade of errors. The coaching staff is to blame for not allowing either to throw the ball in their ultra-conservative offensive scheme. Examples:

Week 1 v Atlanta - 0 attempts to the middle of the field

Vs the Commanders (4 of 28 attempts to the middle of the field)

Vs the Giants - again another 4 total attempts of 28 went to the middle of the field

First game v the Browns (3 passes to the middle of the field)

Vs Denver - 3 passes to the MOF

**** look at what they let rookie Drake Maye do in NE. Passing all OVER the field, including attacking the middle, not just the outer boundaries.

This is a consistent, years long, doesn't matter who the QB is problem. Doesn't matter who the OC is. We don't attack the MOF.

they definitely need to use the middle more, but those numbers are not accurate. The charts show more attempts to the middle than listed if you go by the box shown in the first picture.

It's absolutely crazy that Tomlin obviously lives in his fears. He wouldn't let Trubisky, Rudolph, KP, Fields, and even Russ (to an extent) throw in the middle of the field. It always reminds me of how Marsha made a living throwing short crossing patterns to the middle of the field and his WR's had tremendous YAC. The Steelers are lucky to throw one of those in a game. It's just mind-boggling.

Yep. Fields passes are clearly on the boundary. Wilson may not attack much between the hashes, he's using the MOF much more than the listed stats indicated.
