Russell Failed His Audition

Yes, it would’ve helped get a win, but in the grand scheme this is wrong. Hitting a deep ball and pulling out a scrappy win is exactly why this team is stuck in this cycle of mediocrity. They do just enough to beat bad and middle teams, but get their butts whooped by good teams.

It’s old and a non-stop cycle that many saw upwards of a decade ago, yet here we are.
You know I get the national media. They are toned deaf. In fact I think they actually enjoy it. But how anyone who really watches the games. Really cares about the team. How they could possibly think this is acceptable at this point. And how anyone could possibly lack the courage to not risk being ****** for a while for this perpetual purgatory is so far beyond me.

We might be pleasantly surprised next week, but make no mistake that I will be keeping my house for the time being………

When was the last time one could say “bet my house on it”…………………..in reference to an up coming win. ???????

Losing stinks, but going 9-7 or 10-7 isn’t all it’s cracked up to be either because all it gets is one extra game to watch your team get blown out.

Tomlin keeps changing players without changing the approach. It fails every year and it appears to be on that track again yet he’ll go out with the same approach next season.

And get the same results over and over and over again.

Just debating now if I will go t!tsup before I see the next HC-ing change.

None of this would have been an issue had he hit an open Pickens in stride just before that.
Exactly! Pickens had a rookie on him and was clearly open and if Ole Russ hits him in stride, goodnight.

I have seen enough, I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD RE-SIGN HIM...

Russ is limited in ability, his lack of height makes it hard to see the middle of the field & limits his field usage & coupled with Arthur Smith's limited offense, NON-USAGE OF IN-BETWEEN THE NUMBERS I can call out our plays 80% of the time...

Smith is SOOOOOO limited in his offensive imagination...It's REALLY ANNOYING

How about the perfect throw he threw to Muuth in stride and Muuth dropped it. That would have easily gotten us in FG range for a game-winning attempt. How about the 2 or maybe it was 3 drops GP had. In his biggest game to date, GP stunk. The play calling was also dumb almost the entire game. Moore was his usual turnstile allowing Hendrickson to have 3.5 sacks and the rest of the OL was only slightly better. I could go on and on but Wilson was not the reason the Steelers lost last night.

Dan Moore's regression to his normal play was not talked about enough this season. I have zero doubt he'll find a good fit in free agency and perform better elsewhere like Kevin Dotson. With so much invested in the offensive line and poor development, you have to believe they'll change OL coaches

I think the Vikings lock up Darnold. Unfortunately we are probably stuck with Wilson and the HC.

We are officially in Groundhog Day.

Fans should adjust accordingly
.
I think many of us have. You see more and more posters show their discontent of our current situation. Where in the past we bit our tongue. We know nothing will change. We just now won't sit back and say nothing where in the past we might have.

Seeing Matt Canada last as long as he did and I realize any coach may be safe for far too long, the useless Pat Mayer included

Been calling him repeatedly, he never answers.

Maybe but I'm not so sure. Wasn't Dotson playing out of his normal position and when he left he was put back where he should have been and excelled. My only concern is they are doing the same with Jones. He should have been our LT and now he has been stuck trying to learn RT at the last minute last year and it carried into this year. He has shown flashes both good and bad. Tomlin needs to tell him he will be the LT next year and to ONLY practice that position in the offseason instead of trying to practice at 2 positions. Jones has also shown to be a leader on the field even at his young age. Fautanu can man the RT spot where he was going to this year before his season-ending injury. McCormick and Frazier will be 2 other young starters. The only question is Semaulo. Do they want to keep him for his final year at a high salary or go younger there as well.

We've seen others play at a solid level after leaving as well. I don't think Moore will necessarily be an All-Pro, but at least a solid starter. That is spot on about Dotson playing out of position and Jones does need to settle in. He was a project no matter what and they haven't had a good development plan for him.

Frazier was very good this year and I think McCormick was decent for the most part, but needs to get stronger. Seumalo will be back because Daniels is hitting free agency and coming off a major injury. Although, if I knew for certain he could come back at full strength, I'd rather keep the younger Daniels. He was playing at an elite level when he got hurt.

Or he could have dropped his FOURTH pass of the game. I would have much rather used the 4th down play to Muth on 3rd down, then gone to Pickens on 4th down the sideline. that still gives the opportunity for the FG. They were expecting the sideline throws because of the clock, the middle was in play for all 4 downs.

I honestly hope they stop manufacturing false hope hit bottom for a couple years move on from Tomlin and get a qb.
They'll stay middle of the pack, the sports media will tuck us into bed every night and tell us the story of The Emperors New Clothes. And when some give up and not support the team anymore from the sheer overwhelming frustration they'll pick up a new batch of miners. What with all the new fans from Mexico, Europe, Asia, and the casual American fans, etc. I don't think the NFL or the Rooneys care that much about the older hardcore fans.

Russ will be fine. I'm working with AI right now to create multiple George Pickens...it's a little wonky now, but we'll get there.

I wouldn't put it all on wilson. The system he's in is terrible, coaching is well same as always and he doesn't have very many weapons.

May sound like I want him back but I didn't want either qb to begin with and don't care if either is back next year.

As long as tomlin is leading it won't really matter who's under center. He had a first ballot hall of famer with many good years left in him and could barely win playoff games with him once all of cowher's player left.

I am so done with this team.

Wow, I cannot believe you doubt Coach Mike's playoff brilliance! It's not like his teams have been reemed in the last 5 playoff games!

Whee, on to more playoff glory under Coach Mike!!

Strange how the exact same deficiencies have plagued the team in Ben's last 3 years, the Pickett era, and now the Wilson era, and under 3 different OC's (Fichtner, Canada and Smith).

Almost as if the problem is somewhere else.

Our offensive line is giving RUSS absolutely no time for drop backs

Funny how other teams can get clean pockets, but I haven’t seen a clean pocket all damn year

Our offensive line BLOWS

There were 11 seconds left when the pass was incomplete. Assuming that the pass was completed, Muth most likely would not have gone down and been touched immediately. This means that time is running out quickly. The play looked to be about 13 yards, to the 47. He has to try and get at least to the 38 for a 55yd FG attempt. I would guess that takes another 4-6 seconds to get the yardage and down by contact. That means that EVERYONE has to get 22yds down field and set so Wilson can spike the ball, all in 5-7 seconds. No way in heil does that happen. Pickens and his bad attitude would not have done it, let alone in that limited time.
There were still 13 seconds on the clock after the ball was already beyond Freiermuth, who was on the 48. If he catches the ball in stride basically at near full speed, it is not going to take him another 4-6 seconds to get down around the 40. Your guess is way off.

Don't get me wrong, Russ has indeed failed, but you can't blame it on the last drive...that pass to Freiermuth was right on the money, and yes, they would have had enough time to spike it and set up a field goal attempt.
100% agree with that particular throw. But he has not played well recently. Doesn't use the intermediate throws (never has, they say). Also, he totally F***** the situation on his scramble and tackle in bounds. He doesn't step up in the pocket like he should (too short to do so, to see the open guys?) With all this said...how much of it is scheme and playcalling. I suspect much of it is. Plenty of video breakdowns online showing how he has not played well and missed (not recognized) open receivers. Why can we not scheme open wrs on quick routes?? Everyone else seems to do it. But hell, why can't we get a yard on 3rd and 1. I watch every other team today do it.
