Shazier is a *****

Guess you didn't watch the Semi-Final game against "The SEC's Finest". Buckeyes ran around, through and over 'Bama. Hell, the Buckeye QB was running over 'Bama LBs for chrissake .. Good times for ***** U.

Shazier is going to be a good pro.

I just question the value placed on ILB by this organization and don't see a trancendent player like Willis or Kuechley that will change the way the defense is played or make teams gameplan around him. I also think Shazier would be more effective as a weak-side 4-3 linebacker as well (and I've thought that about a few of Tomlin's defensive draft choices - out of scheme).

Always seemed like an odd way to build the 3-4 by investing TWO #15 picks at that position.

Apparently Steelers draft OSU players because they're more familiar with their program.

Ravens draft Oklahoma players because they're more familiar with their program.....

I think Ive found the reason why Ravens have been far more physical than us lately....we draft from ***** University.

Are you calling Cam Heyward a *****? It has nothing to do with the schools these players came from, it has everything to do with their DL and LBers vs our OL. Dummervil is a nightmare matchup for most RT's in the league, we have Marcus Gilbert. Suggs could have 0 sacks all year, but he is always a terror against us. But the biggest thing, is Ngata. He's a mismatch, a monster, and a hell of a player when he's healthy. And just because, he came from Oregon, you know the school that gets called soft all the time.

Ya the Ravens big lineman keep blockers off the linebackers we are playing lots of times with only two and many time with just on down lineman. You simply are not going to win the line of scrimmage that way or keep guards off the linebackers. It's not about statistics it's about team defense. Seattle doesn't have any players in the top twenty in tackles sacks or interceptions yet they are far the best defense in footbal. They move to the ball as a group and play as a team as good as I've seen in awhile.

Stuntmanmike, I thought I was the only one that hates that stupid 2 linemen defense on pass downs, it makes it 10times worse when you have OLB's that can win one on one battles

And I thought I was the only one who thought that and shouted at the TV. Seems like they had decent pressure when they had 3 lineman in, then on 3rd and long, two lineman, no pressure and a first down. I am no defensive genius but I'd have gone in those situations 4-3 with Heyward:Mclendon: McCullers:Tuitt and use 3 LBs Timmons:Shazier:Harrison or Uncle Jarvis. With our weak secondary and no pass rush this may have made more of a matchup problem for the other team.

it drives me crazy because alota lot of teams use their big NT/DT's on passing downs, Ngata, Wilfork, Raji, etc and they collapse the pocket right in the face of the QB. When we had harrison/woodley it wasn't an issue because those guys were a nightmare one on one.

I know everyone will scream for a OLB or CB in the first round, but to your point, the Steelers need to at least consider Danny Shelton. They are in decent shape at nose tackle, but Shelton is not only that plug in the middle to stop the run, but is an absolute force in the backfield with 16.5 tackles for a loss and 9.0 sacks this year. Put him in the middle with Tuitt and Heyward on the ends and you have a young, excellent defensive line that can be as physical and active as any in the NFL.

I wouldn't be against that, but he'd rarely get to play on passing downs

Where are they now? Special Edition: Maurice Clarett. Are you listening Johnny Manzel? lol

Actually, believe it or not, Clarett is not actually in jail; I saw him on the Rome show and is he straight and helping other kids not make the mistakes he did. I was shocked. I assumed he would be in jail still, as he was such an immense moron.

It's weird seattle plays the old penn state 4-4-3 developed by mad rad Dan radakovich which helped built the steel curtain. Noll changed the defense into a cover two to fit the era which is called the Tampa 2 because tony dungy took it there. But college teams to stop spread offenses teams like usc and Pete Carroll brought back the 4-4-3 cover 3. Western P.A. Is cradle of football. We know a lot of things about football number one is : you win the line of scrimmage you out block and you out tackle the other team... From peewee to the pros it doesn't matter. We need to get back yo that

Which is a philosophy that they need to change.
I agree, did you hear during the NE/Rats game that Wilfork played in something like 75% of their defensive snaps and he's what, early 30's?

Yes,sir. You win the line. That is why pressing at the line and a great pass rush will take us all the way in today's pass happy no hitting league. They may need to start teaching tackling 101 as well. I see absurd amounts of arm tackling. It's a rare thing to see our guys squaring, wrapping up and driving. It's god awful.

I didn't hear that exact number, but I did take not of him on the field. A line with Tuitt, Heyward, McLendon/McCullers and then a pass rushing linebacker as your four down linemen would be a lot tougher to block IMO. That is, as long as one of them isn't Worilds. I think he beat a tackle for only one of his sacks this year.

You have to take somebody off the field for nickel. In the steeler front 7, the least effective player vs the pass should be the NT. If you don't take out the NT, then it's a LB. Which one? Can't take off Timmons. Shazier was drafted mainly for passing downs and coverage so you don't want to take him off. That means you sit an OLB which is supposed to be the main playmakers on the defense.

Sadly, next year we may see the NT out there and an OLB coming off.

The Steelers haven't had a good outside linebacker duo in years. Would much rather have an extra defensive linemen on the field in these situations.

Unless it generates a pass rush.

Maybe next year it will happen. RIght now we have Jarvis and nothing. So i'm figuring we play nothing and sit Jarvis and leave McLendon or McCullers out there.

McCullers doesn't know what he's doing yet, but if they play him on passing downs and tell him to bust through the OL like he's the Kool Aid man, he can make an impact.

We'll have to see if the steelers are sticking with the 3-4 with Lebeau leaving.

Tomlin loves to throw any player under the Bus when he wasn't smart enough to make changes during the game to win. He still has not proven he can get a team ready.
